This is the first film I've seen Akwafina in which I feel like it really suits her. In Ocean's 8, Crazy Rich Asians and Raya and the Last Dragon she was just played the same character who seemed out of place in all of them. Here she actually feels like a character of the story who's grown up in this world and really is friends with Shaun.

Me too. I thought it was a series (for whatever reason) and was all like 'ugh. I'll just watch this when I got really nothing else.' Luckily I didn't wait that long, because I LOVE this movie. The fighting is one of the best and prettiest I have ever seen. The scenes are beautiful, the story is halfway solid, and the characters are almost all relatable and funny.
I knew it would be good! But I didn’t expect my mind to be blown. And seeing the movie at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood on Labor Day weekend (an unusual time of year to release a masterpiece) made the experience something else.
Yes I totally agree with everyone saying they should stay friends and not be a couple AND ALSO I want them to stay valets. The whole point of the movie to me is that the two of them are perfect as they are and shouldn’t change because they’re really happy.
I think more specifically, there was room to improve, such as Katy getting past her fear of failure and really committing to learning archery. But they were also still genuinely happy as they were, and they don't need to give that up. The sister in fact serves as a foil: she was happy with her fight club, but she wound up still wanting more and took over the Ten Rings. Whereas Shang and Katy went back to having dinner with the same old friends from the beginning, and took Wong to their favorite karaoke bar to unwind.
I got the feeling they were supposed to be a solid friendship but these two have too much chemistry to not turn into a romance. But then again I’m a hopeless romantic and a sucker for a good hero and damsel in distress moment. Also just anyone who sings A Whole New World together at karaoke has to end up together.
I’m a hopeless romantic too young and single. And I remember that feeling with Troy and Gabriella in the High School Musical trilogy. But that was another chapter in my life.
