      Why do I feel like they are bullshitting you guys and are going to keep the boats themselves its not the first time something like that has happened on-top of that you can clearly see boats in the unit which is why you guys paid so much to get the locker in first place right there for either the boats are yours they knew the boats were there when selling them you guys own those boats fair and square they cant tell you not to keep them polices or not and if they want to say you can't keep the boats then ask for a 100% refund on buying the locker seeing as it lost 99% of its value with the boat ohhh and keep your eyes open in your local waters or at the docks if you see either these boats in the water make a complaint to someone and get the boats back

      I don’t think they can legally do that due the fact that they already sold the boats to you. It no longer belongs to the storage unit place

      Public Storage had an auction and sold our boat. It had been stolen and stored in their facility, in ALAMEDA, by the guy who stole it from us, and a bunch of other stuff.
      He was a previous employee.
      He didn't pay his bill.
      They auctioned the unit and we were contacted by the buyer because they found our business records in the unit and thought we might need them.
      We had to fight tooth and nail to get our stuff back, and didn't.
      Not all of it.
      Bottom line is this.
      The boat can be fought for by two of the three parties involved. The only party who absolutely had NO CLAIM and was NEVER going to get to keep the boat under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES was Public Storage.
      And they threw all kinds of BS at us un an attempt to keep our boat.
      The judge was very clear, Public Storage could have no claim on the property once the auction was over.
      And the boat stayed on their property the whole time we were fighting over it.
      They weren't even allowed to charge additional storage.

      Ok so your not responsible for the trash or cleaning?
      When you buy a unit you own everything
      Including the trash right
      They have the option to pull the unit from sale prior to finalization of the auction.
      Once the auctioneer says sold
      It is yours. Especially in California.
      The police already stated it was not stolen
      GET the titles if you didn't find them
      YOUR the legal owners

      Oh and policy is not law

    • @guruoo
      @guruoo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      Not if they were abandoned property, as implied by including the boats up for auction in the first place. The storage auction had a duty to inform all bidders up front through auction terms and conditions of any exceptions to this. Any bidder that participated in this auction can file a complaint with the state, don't have to be the winning bidder to do so.

      Incorrect!
      It's similar to a mechanics lien sale. While I'm not familiar with California statutes pertaining to similar situations. That being said California does have some screwy laws in general but in every other state I'm familiar with you own them with a simple bill of sale from the storage company and can easily be converted into a title legally.
      I'm not a conspiracy theorist but would be interested in knowing if they were in fact returned to the original owner or if someone in "upper management" is enjoying them currently or spending the proceeds of sale of said boats...

    We bought a storage locker and found a box of old gold doubloons. They were valued at over $20,000. The state confiscated them as historical artifacts. They did give us the $270 we paid for the locker and let us keep the rest of the stuff, (a few hundred bucks worth) but we got screwed out of the big bucks. We talked to a lawyer about it and he said we had very little chance of winning against the state, and the legal costs would be far more than the value of the document. The little guy has zero power against these scoundrels. Oh well. Lesson learned:
    From now on we KEEP OUR YAPS SHUT WHEN WE FIND SOMETHING VALUABLE!

      People leave boats for many reasons just abandoned, cost, junked, etc. So the goverment came up with laws they did not have to pay for cost of removing them. Cars are easy to sell as junk or to redo, boats are not. So the best way to handle it is to file the proper paperwork in your state and its yours. No cost to tax payer and abandoned boat is out of tax payers hands. Yep the goverment just made money on the paperwork, tax, tags, etc again. Two reasons for this law, taxpayer don't pay but they make money. If the storage owner did not comply to the laws of the autions, they have a problem, they bidded a higher amount because of the boats most likely and should take the storage owner to small claims court.

    Guys I used to work at an auction facility. The storage facility was aware of said watercrafts in their storage locker prior to auction. All lockers are itemised prior to start of auction. In this instance, the storage facility had a duty of care to ensure that these boats were NOT stolen prior to listing the unit available for auction, or they risk the penalty of dealing, handling and the sale of stolen goods. This is a clause for “big ticket” items.
    You are entitled to the boats as per the rules of auction, in that you purchased the “entire” contents of the locker. If the holding facility were not prepared to sell the boats, it is also their responsibility to remove those boats from the locker 48hrs before sale day. The police cleared the boats as non stolen and therefore can provide you with their title. The storage facility and Auctioneer company have no legal rights to retain those boats. The same rule applies to motorcycles, trucks and cars.
    Go get your property back.

If they had something in their agreement which stated "we can take back stuff we think you shouldn't be allowed to keep" then no-one would go to their auctions. Find a monet painting - expect it to be taken back. Nope. Not happening. Some supreme bullshit going on there.

    Any 'Registered California Vehicle' can not be sold without lien paperwork, advertising in a local paper, sending certified mail to last owners, then the facility can sell them. Now, once you buy them, you must wait 10 days for your paperwork that you have submitted to DMV clears their side... Then it's yours. That's all I do, buying vehicles from auctions. It's fun.

    Public Storage had around 45 days from the time they cut the lock to auction to figure all that out.

  • @MYTOYMAKERZ
    @MYTOYMAKERZ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Public Storage must have informed this couple that the titled property was not included in the sale of the lockers items. Legally the storage company can not sell any titled property that is registered with the state or has a lien on it. Public Storage apparently didn’t rent the enclosed locker for storage of said boats if so the renter would have needed to show ownership of the boats. I feel this is the case here because Public Storage requested that this couple contact the police department something that Public Storage was obligated to do not the winners of the locker. Regardless according to law the storage company would need to contact the owner or owners of the boats to see if the owner would sign a lien release which normally the owner will not do. If the storage company happens to acquire from the boat owner a title release than the boats could be sold but not from an enclosed storage locker. This is very complex because an inside storage locker had different laws within it contained materials verses an outside storage area meant for titles vehicles such as cars - rv’s and boats. Any titled vehicle will become property of the state if the bank or finance company doesn’t hold a lien on said registered property.
    Public Storage had to follow the law or laws pertaining to said titled or registered property with the state it is registered to.
    As I stated I ca not imagine Public Storage hot notifying bidders the boats were not included in the bidding of this storage locker. Thank You

Too bad they didn't tell us in this video. Then we would know more. I think they should have been able to keep them.

Please help me understand what happened here? Just trying to learn about the business. Tell Jenna even though she worked very hard she was still beautiful. And of course you were handsome. This makes no sense! Why would you walk from a potential profit like that without first obtaining legal representation? Unless this is a scam for views or you are simply willing to roll over you need to have a lawyer review this! You say you “knew there was a chance you wouldn’t be able to keep the boats” How did you know that? Was it in the sale contract? If not don’t be taken advantage of, hire an attorney.

    As several have commented your got scammed! If the boats are not stolen, then you must check to see if there is an bank lien on them (if there is,the bank would own the boats and you would have to deal with them), but as far as the storage company is concerned they have NO LEGAL CLAIM to the boats once they sold them to you.

  • @UmbreWolf

    i'll say this and say this now, there is only one situation I can think of or acknowledge to lead to this. They only logical explanation besides keeping the boats for themselves is the original owners that the boats where registered too wanted them back. Even if they where not stolen, they where still under active registration, one til what did the cop say 2022? As long as their is active registration on the boats or the trailer they are on the they are not technically deemed "abandoned" The original owners the one they are registered to could come and ask for them back as long as the value is still higher then the storage fees. (or could have even made a deal with the storage owners to get the boats back) This had to have happened. if it did not then you need to hire an attorney and get what you paid for. That would really be the only reason they could "legally" ask for the boats back.

  • @Carolysom

    The boats are yours they auctioned the locker with the boats in so contact the authorities because if they sell them they must give you the money or if the owners get them back you get salvage fee because you found them and saved them

    I can't believe that you wouldn't just take the boats home. The police said they weren't stolen so its not a legal issue. The public storage management is probably shaking their heads in disbelief that you actually left them knowing that they couldn't and wouldn't have stopped you.

    Make sure you get it all in writing that they want to keep the Boats. You bought it at a Lien Sale and they were obviously in there. Unless they stated that the boats don't come with the unit then those boats are yours . PLus you placed a Bid based on the boats in the unit. So I hope they refunded your money ! Legally those are yours but you are risking of them kicking you out of the auction and then you have to sue !

    I think in the previous video you said you paid $800 for the locker at auction! The auction was driven by the fact that there where 2 boats in the locker!
    DID THEY RETURN ANY OF THE MONEY YOU PAID FOR THE LOCKER?
    It seems you would be entitled to a partial refund as the rest of the items in the locker were NOT worth $800!

  • @cgravely62
    @cgravely62 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I worked for a management company that managed storage facilities for years & we did auctions & yes sold cars,boats,rvs, you name it & I hope they had a really good reason because its not Public storage that gets to pick what they can and cant do with boats and cars in storage units its the state that has guidelines they have to go buy & unfortunately there are some facilities banking on the average person who buys a unit not knowing what the laws are & then the facility ends up keeping things or selling them to make a profit & yes it may be different from state to state but not all that much. So with the value of those boats I would seriously be questioning their motives for not letting you have them if I were you. Just saying
