Wow, I grew up in Cleveland in the 60's and 70's. I cruised Severance Mall and went to concerts at Cyrus Erie in North ridgeville. I saw Foghat, Slade, Artful Dodger, Zepplin, you name it but I never got them on film. Thank you for putting this up!!!
I do believe this is from Warren Ohio, legends of rock concert in 91', Cheap Trick, Meatloaf and Guess Who on the bill, helluva show, mother nature also put on a hell of a show driving back to Akron, tornadoes, thunder storms and hail!.....
Im neighbors with and great friends with the Cox family and talking to Gary about music was the best. unfortunately he passed last year. He was such a great guy.
I was in my senior year at high school when I started to really get into their music. I remember going out and buying all their albums. If I had one regret it was I didn't get to see them live in concert. What a truly great band. I get choked up when I cue up one of their albums. This was an amazing band with unbelievable lyrics and they were all teriffic musicians. I feel so fortunate that I was exposed to their music.
An Awesome band and a great group of guys. I had the honor of working 3 of the many shows they played back in the 70's and at one of the shows they all autographed a Babes on Broadway album cover and vinyl pressing for me that I will always cherrish. Every song they played, whether it was from their personal catalog or a cover like Eddie Cochran's Come On Everybody, had their fingerprints all over it. A true slice of the Cleveland music scene that will beat in my heart forever.
No apologies necessary for this one, AJ--You really have outdone yourself again!!! This version of this song is my favorite and I absolutely adore the guitar part. THANK YOU for doing this one for us. You're the BEST!!!
They were from Virginia but we're known as Cleveland's adopted sons because of their huge following in northeast Ohio. Highly promoted by WMMS the buzzard
I grew up in cleveland also. unfortunately my parent would not let me go see zepplin so I took the rapid and like the song " I put my ear to the wall " that actually happened but I have over 100 ticket stubs from concerts of that time. My husband and I saw Artful at least six times. My ex lived at the agora so we met them. But many more great concerts. Have all my stubs how about you?
I saw these guys open for Blue Oyster Cult and KISS in Toronto in '76. They were a last minute replacement for Bob Seger who was sick. They beat expectations but BOC and KISS were epic.
Is this video from the show they did in Nelson's Ledges, Ohio? If so, I was there. I'm not aware of any other shows they did in 1991 other than the first reunion show at the Agora in Cleveland earlier that year. I had a chance to talk with both Gary's "backstage," which was a clearing in the woods. Wonderful guys, both of them.
legends of rock show out on the old motorcross track on 422 put on buy the rock station out of warren, the wolf, they had that show there for two years, i know because i used to design all the shirts for the wolf and we did those shows to, other great groups that were there were steppenwolf, blackfoot, molly hatchet, meatloaf both years, cheap trick, blue oyster cult, and others, it was a great 2 year run !
does anybody know if this video was recorded at the "legends of rock" show at nelson ledges around 90-92, it looks like the same stage setup, great shows ! {steppenwolf, meatloff, molly hatchet, b.o.c., blackfoot, cheap trick headlined one year and B.O.C. the next year ! they only put the show on for 2 or 3 years then gone !
That;s my question also, it looks just like the backdrop of nelson's ledges. I was at the summer of 1991 show with Meatloaf and Cheap Trick. I didn't even remember that molly hatchett and blackfoot were there also.
@masugam Actually, American Beat/Collector's Records has the rights for reissuing the Artful Dodger catalog. But so far, only "Honor Among Thieves" is out. Don't know what the delay is, but last I heard was they need final sign-off from SONYBMG who owns the rights. Hopefully it'll be soon, but feel free to let American Beat knwo that you're waiting... Other than that, you can try to get a used copy of the Sony/Pendulum reissue of the AD debut on CD which came out around 1998.
@Stevetheperformer I could burn ya a copy of rave on , and send it to you, it was a special cd given out on new years eve at the cleveland agora anaversary show , it rocks
This was the music when you lost you first girl friend and you would sit and listen to this kind of music
"Scream" is one of my all-time favorite songs. Love Artful Dodger so much.
Damn. When this started I got tears in my eyes and goose bumps all over. This song brings back memories of a better time. Thank you.
Totally my favorite song back in the day. I saw them at St. Ignatius HS on the basketball court.

Remarkable.

Remember seeing them outside Akron Ohio at the Flying Machine when I was on leave in the Army in 1978. Great times.

I haven't heard this tune for 40 years! Always thought they were great, didn't know they were from Ohio. Brings back memories!

I remember them well.
They weren't from Cleveland. They just were popular in Cleveland. They were from Virginia.
I saw these guys open for Blue Oyster Cult and KISS in Toronto in '76. They were a last minute replacement for Bob Seger who was sick. They beat expectations but BOC and KISS were epic.
