    Mmmmmm, we used to eat this with Boston Baked Beans & Hot Dogs ♥️

      Hi Swamper60. I have read that it is eaten with beans and hot dogs. Not sure how much I would like that as my one experience of baked beans in the USA was not to my liking.

    Hi Geoff,
    My recipe for Boston Brown Bread is almost the same as yours, but contains only whole-wheat flour and cornmeal. I steam mine in my slow cooker for about two hours. Boiling water is added so you don’t have to wait for the cooker to heat the water up. I’m going to try your recipe. I think the addition of rye flour would really enhance the flavour! 😊

      Hi Jan. Thanks very much. I have an admission the butter was actually a butter and olive oil mix which is my regular spread. It does taste just like butter though. All is well here thanks. I hope the same for you.

      I can assure you that would be slathered in butter in our house , I've tried to tame Uncle Percival's insatiable butter appetite by introducing Flora buttery , it didn't work but oddly enough, Flora original tastes more like butter than the Flora buttery. It's a important topic as one can easily undo all the wonderful baking by what butter or spread you use. Butter has many health benefits surprisingly .

    You'd have to have a blooming big saucepan for a two pound loaf tin.. 😂🍞Looks an unusual recipe... What would happen if you baked it,, say in a water bath I wonder.. 🤔

    • @geoffsbakingblog
      @geoffsbakingblog  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Henrietta. I have an oval cast iron casserole that could take a 2lb loaf tin. But I have also seen recipes where the bread is baked as is and also in a water bath too, but with the loaf tin and the dish both covered with foil.

    Definitely a winner! If you'd like to try something else from New England, check out Anadama bread. Very sticky dough, but also uses cornmeal and molasses-but is a yeast bread.

    I've always been curious about this breadbut have never tasted it so now is my chance to make it myself, thank you for the recipe and instructions. Yhe cream cheese might be intersting to try as well instead of butter too.

    Could this be still called Boston brown bread if not using raisins Uncle Geoff ? Not big Raisin fans here ...a generous butter spread on the bread met Uncle Percy's approval ..mine too...Sir Barney in symphony also .
    How do you keep so trim and fit with all these wonderful indulgent delights ? Thank you uncle Geoff

      @@delilahboa Thank you for reaching out to me , another sleepless night, will be going for MRI on the frozen shoulders. I was diagnosed with dupuytren contracture in my photographers hand , I'm a sports photographer so it's been really tough going . Getting a scope procedure done to rule out early achalasia .....not to mention other ails ...my own partner visits every second week as she looks after her mother with dementia. I have a elderly jack Russell terrier who is famous ... A wonderful eccentric uncle and of course we love Geoffs baking blog . So he was crowned with the Uncle title ...we are a happy family including two aquariums . We love Uncle Geoff and his little ways , lovely English gentleman manner same as Percy , especially if he forgets a ingredient, it's expertly somehow included. Of course he's a brilliant baker ,it makes it all real , family like , he's probably going to be reading this ,so cheque in the post Uncle Geoff. We have a lovely little club here . Long may it continue ... I'm waiting for the day when uncle Geoff does his tasting at the end ...if he says , that's just awful , cut ....🤣, It ain't going to happen coz it's too good . We love a little humour so yeah we have a lovely little family here , I'm still waiting on a departure cake which I suggested to uncle Geoff...we have the Swedish visitors cake ..what if you had guests , who you were happy to see the back off,🤣...so a departure cake would be a original . Yes, Boston Brown Bread is really delicious. Thanks for the video. You can eat this with tea but up in Boston they threw all the tea in Boston Bay years ago.
