Sailing Across The Gulf Of Alaska - Ep. 123 RAN Sailing
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 23 พ.ย. 2024
- We heard a growling sound and a bad smell in the distance. Guess what we found? A huge Sea Lion colony on a tiny rock island! We set sail east to cross the Gulf of Alaska and leave south central Alaska to arrive in South East Alaska and the Inside Passage. Hope you like this extra long episode :)
We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter, January 2016, and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us.

Best you tube channel right now....perfect balance of casually talking, still video, drone video, voice overs, story telling, information, music, editing.............
Wow! :-) Thanks a lot for those kind words! Cheers
Yet some give a thumbs down, I don’t get it:(
Most people will never understand the amount of work and countless hours (and money) it takes to put together a quality video (like Ran does and a few other sailing channels). From the actual footage, to carrying cameras with them everywhere, trying to "stage" scenes which appeal to their viewers, going through 30-40 hours of raw footage, editing it down to 15-20 minutes, doing voice overs, adding music thats not copy righted, to finding good wifi to upload the video, to waiting sometimes hours for it to upload, etc.......To me they are film makers and should be respected whether folks like their non confrontational content or not. I very really give a thumbs down to anyone for those reasons, but I gave one for LaVagabond and Uma recently solely for their topic which I disagreed with (as 100's did). I still watch them and I just hope enough thumbs down on each of those videos will make them re-think the type of video they put out..I just want to see sailing and/or travel by boat and not political/controversial videos...For these guys on Ran, they just keep putting out superb quality videos, so to answer your question. I would find it hard to see anyone give them a thumbs down (they do zero confrontational). To be fair, I never watched RAN while they were cruising the Caribbean. I started to watch them as they crossed the Pacific because there are just to many white sand beaches, booze, T & A, crystal blue water and obvious and subliminal advertising sailing channels out there. I guess that was to long of an answer......lmao
@@wadeharrison5404 That would be their competitors! ;)
I show my parents a lot of videos on TH-cam but you 2 are the only ones they ever ask about. They always ask where you are now and if everything is going good for you, so I put your latest video on their TV and we all sit around and watch. You're a really likeable couple and your videos are well done and tell a great story.
So professional in all aspects, the sailing the photography, music, commentary, just an all round professional package. I’m just amazed Nat Geography hasn’t picked up on you guys yet.. Sail safe.🏴⛵️
This Northern adventure has been breathtaking in its scenery. You guys continue to set the standard for other TH-cam Vblogs to follow. Sail safe. Ant & Cid xx
I can't wait to follow their trek!
While all youtube sailing channels are enjoying Caribbean, you guys differentiated your journey and life. Thanks for sharing your experience and letting us all to see other beautiful parts of world. Be safe.
that was some gloomy dark music there for a while... was almost expecting some sort of sea creature to attack.
We almost expected that too for a while... :-)
It reminded me of an old Alfred Hitchcock movie with what looks like a dark lens filter, strange sunset and the eerie music
One additional GOOD POINT was to tell the date at which you were sailing, the 29th of July ! For the rest of it, just great.
That gymbal shot was great! Really showed what you have to deal with.
Thanks Dillon! :-)
I knew you were going to have trouble with the sink hoses as soon as I heard that cello playing, lol, thanks for sharing.
Sooo beautiful. You two are so balanced and the scenery is delightful. Thank you.
You are doing wonderfully well showing the beauty of the north. When you were showing the sea lion colony I was struck by how well you are integrating the drone footage with your narrative and how glad I was that the video didn't include the smell!
Thanks for the nice feedback David! It's only a question of time until we have smell tv... :-) Cheers!
Friday - take a Flensburger Pilsener - lay back an watch a new episode of RAN Sailing.
Fair winds
Tom
Your drone shots are amazing , Ran looked so beautiful with the calm sea and the shoreline in the background. I don’t think sailing in the fog would be much fun, but the rest is awesome. Thank you for sharing such a great adventure. Fairwinds to you, and enjoy your adventure.
...and that's why I like this channel. Boat's taking on water? Ok, be calm, check bilge for salt or fresh water, close valves, check for more water, find leak, done. Really good troubleshooting and no freaking out. Nice job.
”Kolla den tjocka på stranden!” 🤣🤣🤣👌
What an amazing episode! Glaciers and the waterfall were so beautiful!
you guys explain everything really good. love watching your video thank you.
I think that's more about the fact that Malin is a gifted story teller....... and this is her second language. just think about the stories she tells in her native language.....
Really nice episode guys. Alaska is beautiful, but a bit intimidating. And so large. Your videos have done a great job of conveying the feeling of cruising through that vast, majestic area.
Thank you for the kind feedback! Alaska really is big and beautiful! Cheers
Wow absolutely beautiful! Nice to see the north west!
Love Prince William Sound. Spent 20 days out there in 2019.
Alaska is very beautiful and unspoiled. It is on my bucket list of places that I want to visit, but for now, I can see it through your eyes/lens of the camera.
We do love your videos, very informative and enjoyable to watch. Thank you.
The dramatic music was such a great touch 👌
Thanks for showing us the joys of the world in such a gentle way
Hello People I really like your channel, you have a natural enthusiasm that's great
The beauty of the North in Alaska incredible. Thanks for sharing ⛵
Another very interesting, beautiful and enjoyable episode! Thank you two for your meaningful efforts.....
Thanks Ed!
Absolutely breathtaking footage and (as usual) great music to go with it... thanks to both of you for letting us be part of your adventure! ;-)
Wonderful. Amazing. I'd much rather watch your episodes than watch NatGeo. More personal and personable. Thank you for the weekly beauty and adventure. Be safe and well.
Thanks for watching William! Really nice feedback! Cheers
Those Sealions remind of German and British tourists on the beaches in Spain, though more charming possibly !
You need to send a copy of your footage to the Alaska Bureau of Tourism. Seriously. The scenes in this episode were beautiful.
Thanks David :)
Totally loved this episode (guess I say that every time ... cause I do). Malin's smile just eases the day and you, Johan must really appreciate that. Can't wait for the next one.😊👍👌👊⛵️⚓️✨
Thanks again Richard! Great to have you along... Cheers!
A stunning part of the world despite humans.
Thanks for sharing it with us.
Loved the musical selections. Great video. 🎥🎹🎶⛵🌲🌲👫☔🐬
That was some eerie sounding music around minute 22. I was expecting to see something break on the boat! ; )>
Fin film av er och härligt med folk som seglar med Blåkläder...
Inget tjafs!
Haha! Precis. :-) Tack!
Delos vlog in the morning and you in the evening - utterly fantastic, be safe guys
Thanks for following us along! Cheers!
Ok , you too are rocking youtube . Great video , balanced and educational . Music woven nicely into the environment ,especially the ominous set ,,, love it. What I don't like is that the video ends :(
Wow, that's some really kind words! :-) Thanks a lot Joe! Cheers
Vacker, informativ och mycket sevärt avsnitt. Tack och fortsatt lycka till!
Your vessel cuts the water like a butter knife love to see nore videos showing the gracfulness of how well it does this
As an Elfin Cove Alum I will be anxious to see your next video. There's not much there except a nice dock and fishing lodges but it is a beautiful place. My sister and her husband used to own a lodge there. It was always a great deal of fun to visit. As I recall there always seemed to be an endless supply of fresh crab, salmon and halibut! Yummy!
Absolutely breathtaking footage, and equally great selection of music... your editing becomes better every time. thanks for taking us with you, Malin and Johan! ;-)
Thanks for watching!
A regular party on that beach. Amazing wildlife. Thanks for filming.
Just loving this Alaska trip . Very relaxing .I hope the Canadian coast is just as awesome.
You two are awesome and what an adventure! You show what is important when sailing and promote healing of our earth. Now if only countries can get together and recover our planet.
Thanks a lot Ralph!
Fantastic seal coverage . Thank you
I had a dream like that once. I awoke and thought omg I dragged all the way to my parent's back yard. Took me a moment to realize I was visiting my parents.
I don't know what to write... joust THANKS !!!
Alaska, BC, is a big dream of me...
Your picturs/ videos are my dream to discover those country even more.
Malin and Johan please just goooooooooooooo.......... you enjoy my heart even more!
DELOS !!! RAN!!! NANJI !!!
GOOOOOOOOOO ONNNN!!!
Thank you! :-)
Every episode I am amazed and the pristine places you have discovered during your voyages......just nature at it's best! As usual, thank you so much for sharing your adventures.
Enjoy every moment! Alles Gute,
Your films make viewers use of superlatives in the comments, just plain and simply inadequate.👍😀
Such dramatic music! Love the videos. Thank you.
I THOUGHT YOU SAID, "THERE'S A LOT OF BEER'S AROUND",......I WOULD HAVE BEEN TO SHORE IN A SECOND!!
Haha! :-) Cheers!
I love that drone shot of your boat starting at 4:40!
I just love watching your videos. I feel that I have visited these places in person. Don’t stop. Excellent. 🙂
Thanks!
Wonderful cruising. Alaska is amazing. Really enjoyed this video.
You are having a great trip! I love Alaska and all that it offers. The harbors in the towns can be crowded, but there are tons of places to go with no people, no lines but just wilderness.
Another wonderful vlog thank you both so much for sharing these wonderful experiences. You guys are always so relaxed and calm.
You seem to be enjoying every moment of your adventure . Thank you 😊 for letting us be part of it .
Can’t wait for next week, porpoises just love 💕 having fun, they were just gorgeous, sea lions are just noise machines, such a wonderful part of our world, so glad you went there for yourselves & us; thankyou. 🇦🇺⛵️🙋🏼♀️🌺
As this video is a couple months old, I'm sure you're long past my home port here in Sitka. As I'm sure you discovered, weather forecasts mean nothing and currents mean everything. As much as I love exploring up here, I can't wait to head south. Great video; wish I could've caught up with you and showed you around my home town.
I went to Ester one winter when all I had seen was Ice around Fairbanks it was good to see open water .
Welcome to the SanJuans! So many quiet bays! Try Garrison bay south of Roche Harbor on San Juan Island
this morning we found a leak in the boat. ho hum....is there such a thing as TOOO calm and laid back?
Haha! Cheers!
A Radar would be worth the money and peace of mind.
Well, between the scary music and the rolling sea I am so happy I can just watch from the comfort of my home :) Beautiful though! Thanks!
almost barfing watching the gimbal footage
We can't wait to sail to Alaska just life you!
We have been to Elfin Cove 3 times and always had a good time and we’re lucky to find free dock space in the inner harbor docks.
What a journey
Nice music choices. Very tranquil 😉
Thanks Frank!
Perfect....again!
I thank you very much for the beautiful videos you share with us. It is a real pleasure to watch a new one every week. All the best for you. JP
Looks like motoring more than sailing. Thank you for sharing. Beautiful videos 👌
Very nice video, great area to discover.have a save trip thanks for sharing.
Breath taking scenery! Another great video! Best sailing channel!
Once again some brilliant footage of surroundings and enjoyed the sea lion colony very much . The gymbal camera shot was a great way of showing boat movement . Thanx again for a pleasurable vlog . Fair winds and following seas . Stay safe guys
;-)
Definitely experienced some rolly seas this time, the scenery is spectacular though.
See you next week😊
Beautiful shot guys with the camera thank YOU for sharing
Really look forward to your videos
I love your videos. Great choice with music.
Thanks Jeff!
Absolutely amazing!
You had to pull out the scary music for the foggy/night sail. I kept expecting the fishing boat to appear out of the fog on your bow. Happy you got across the Gulf without incident. Safe travels.
that ominous music around 22:40 had me pretty worried...but all we got was a lovely sunset!! ~~_/) ~~~
Someone will have to analyze the meaning of your “anchor dragging” dream.
beautiful thanks
Beautiful videography. Like the look of Esther Passage.
Another fabulous episode. And it looks like you have a new Swedish flag as well to fly from the backstay. Safe travels.
Yes, new flag! :-) Thanks for watching!
It’s almost Halloween in America. That fog was perfect creepy!!!! Can’t wait to see what’s next! 😃
aaand another great vlog! Thanks for sharing these special sights and sounds.
I loved the howling monk...er sea lions lol
Brilliant as always. Safe sailing
Look out for the Ghost ships in the FOG. Wonder if you have seen any Lobster traps.
a most excellant video guys, thanks!
really one of the best videos i have seen. My congratulation.
Another awesome video - you guys seemed a bit down, not your usual selves - I am sure it's exhausting short handed sailing in waters like these - 👍
..... just the other day was wondering why people did not use a gimbal to get across to the viewers the state of the sea and the motion of the sailboat ..... excellent footage ..... love your vlogs .... your courtesy flag has been flying for quite a while, not like when you were in the Caribbean ..... have fun be safe, save our oceans .....
Great video guys. Alaska wow, beautiful to visit, amazing things to see, but if this is summer I wouldn’t want to live there - winter would be depressing. This must be where the term “cabin fever” came from.
Alot of fishing boats in Alaska either dont have ais of they shut it off, becasue they dont want the competition seeing where they are. They also anchor and run without lights for the same reason, so be careful everyone.
Great video and sad to hear that Valdez still shows its destruction to the sea.
I am loving this journey! Another great 👍 video
