The drama, history, and mythology surrounding Ariel’s family is just captivating. In mythology, Zeus and Hera were siblings. Also, Zeus forced Hera to marry him, and then he constantly cheated on her. Also depending on the myth, she's either his 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th wife. Also his other sister Demeter was either one of his flings, or wife 2, 3, 4, or 5.
Zeus also ORDERED Hades to kidnap Persephone (the daughter of Zeus and Demeter) because Hades had a crush on her and Demeter was an over-protective mother who didn't want her baby girl to be in any romantic relationship.
Also Hera isn't Hercules mother. He had a human mother that Zeus got with. Hera hated Hercules and messed with his life. Greek mythology would be so much shorter if Zeus could keep it in his pants lol
Not to sound like Adam Conover, but actually, Ariel would be the first cousin once removed of Hercules. Poseidon and Zeus are brothers. That means that Hercules and Triton are cousins, meaning that Hercules would be Ariel’s first cousin once removed. The child of one’s first cousin is that person’s first cousin once removed.
It is so just interesting this video for the Mermaid Family. In fact about Ariel was a one of them part of the family from the original family after another.

I saw this meme/post that basically said that the seven daughters of triton represented seven seas. This could mean that he splits the kingdom equally.
I also think that he could split it in six ways because Ariel already has her own kingdom.
Lastly, another interesting idea is that the other daughters of triton are named after their late aunts, while Athena was allowed to name their last daughter, and the older sisters are heirs to whatever their aunts were heirs to, while Ariel was the heir of her father and Ursula’s land. This could be why Ursula especially hated Ariel, asking with her ultimate beauty and voice. I also believe Ursula killed their sisters but Triton took those lands instead of offering three of them to Ursula.
The fact that Npetune and Posidan seem to be two different people in this universe kinda triggers me

Maybe Neptune is Amphitrite's father. That way he's still Triton's grand father, without screwing up the relationship between Poseidon, Zues, Hades, Hercules and so forth. Also in mythology Amphitrite was the daughter of Nereus who also was a god of the sea.

In Greek Mythos her father was the original ruler of the ocean, I think what is confusing Issac is that Disney kinda contradicted or made a strange timeline here because Neptune is also Posiden's name. I think Disney may have just forgotten and given Neptune's name to Amphitrite.
Nereus is Amphitrite's father she was a nereid he was the ruler of the sea during the titans rule.

Technically, Athena in Greek Mythology is the Goddess of Wisdom. Although she is known for being in battle, Athena is a wise tactician. Ares is the God of War, just so you know. That being said, this was a very interesting video about Ariel's family tree. Sounds a bit complicated, especially with whole Ursula/Triton situation.
Anyway, you think you could do a "What If?" video and here is something Little Mermaid related that I know you are going to like. What if, what if King Triton was a villain? That would be an interesting video. I already did one on my friend's blog site long ago.
Athena is also a goddess of war.. the Greek and Roman gods split titles more often than not. Aphrodite also gained the title of a goddess of war because of Troy
Maybe Ariel's mother was named after the Greek Myth heroine.
@@li.m4095 it was also a case of various gods having Epithets, or "versions" that were sometimes regionally based or eventually in some cases what historical records came to consider the "official" version(s). A prime example is Aphrodite who had three distinct versions the first two being the more widely recognized versions Aphrodite Urania and Aphrodite Pandemos (Pandemos being the more fickle version we see crop up in a lot of stories), and the third Aphrodite Areia who was worshipped in Sparta and a few other places and was the more warlike of the three versions.
It's these Epithets that lead to at times wildly different characterizations between stories various gods appear in and why they sometimes act like completely different characters, cause on a certain level they are, and that's not even getting into Aphrodites possible links and evolution from the even older goddess Ishtar.
I guess it really depends who you are asking and about which story. My teachers called her a Goddess of Wisdom, who tried to avoid war at all cost. Recently, a Greek/Roman major I met, claimed she was a Goddess of War (but his source was a vague Google entry?). This was debunked by a Greek inhabitant, who was raised with the culture and said Athena was never the goddess of war, in no story. So I guess it's all about interpretations? Though I rather see Mermaid Athena named after the Goddess of Wisdom than after a Goddess of War. Just doesn't fit with the Disney Lore.
I LOVE your Videos Issac even with Ariel because she is my favorite! Can you do a Disney theory on how The Evil Queen in Snow White is Mother Gothel in Tangled? I watched Snow White three times today and I don't understand how The Evil Queen is Gothel.
And before people come at me, I understand the similarities between them like how Snow White and Tangled are based in the same country and they are obsessed with beauty but let me remind you Evil Queen fell off a rocky cliff and has a huge boulder crash an had vultures going towards the bottom of the cavern.

●In mythology, Athena was the neast to Posiden, but they didn't have a good relationship, and was one of the reach Medusa turned "ugly"
● Hercules killed meg because of Hera, then he married Hebe/Juventas, goddes of youth and forgiveness

Medusa is one of my favorites. Poseidon thought she was very beautiful and pursued her. She was apart of one of Athena's temples where they didn't allow men and where to stay pure, meaning no sex. The main story I read is that Poseidon raped her and when Athena seen them she thought she was willingly with him. So she turned her into the snake/gorgon that we know so she would be to ugly for any man to look at her and those who did would turn to stone. There's more to her story after that. I maybe off by a slight detail or two, but there's so many versions of all the stories to keep up with. Greek mythology would be much shorter if Zeus could keep it in his pants.

I think Shanti acts like a big sister to Ranjan because their mothers are close friends. And the village has a very strong sense of community because of how small it is.

Friendly correction about Ariel and her sisters, this is the real birth order:
1. Aquata
2. Andrina
3. Arrista
4. Attina
5. Adella
6. Alana
7. Ariel
In other words: Attina is not the heir to the throne, Aquata is. (Source: 🎼Daughters of Triton🎶)
In the tv series Attina is the oldest one and heir to the throne. It’s stated in the movie Ariel’s beginning as well that she’s the oldest. Aquatic was the oldest originally but somewhere along the line they changed it.

I think the animated series added a generation between Triton and Neptune/Poseidon to further distance it from classical Greek mythology. As for Poseidon, Hades and Zeus, they were born from titans, but not the ones Zeus locked up in the animated Hercules film (though in the original myth, Zeus did lock his father in Tartarus). Their titan parents were Cronus (aka Saturn) and Rhea. In classic Greek myth, Zeus was the youngest son, and he had to free his siblings from Cronus' belly. Zeus was born into and in turn sired the most dysfunctional family in western mythology. So before ANYONE from his family could be in an animated Disney film or TV series, there was a LOT of cleanup that had to be done.
Ariel is Hercules' FIRST cousin once removed. Hercules and Triton are first cousins. Ariel is a generation after Triton. Ergo, first cousin once removed. Hercules' children are second cousins to Ariel. Melody is their second cousin once removed.
To put it more simply, first cousins share grandparents, second cousins share great-grandparents, third cousins share great-great-grandparents, etc. The common ancestor Hercules and Triton have is a grandfather. That grandfather is Ariel's great-grandfather because she is one more generation removed from him than Hercules and Triton are.

Poseidon from Hercules is not related to Triton's family tho. We see he already has a son named Triton and hes clearly no the merman we know. Hes a green guy with webbed feet. The names are jus a coincidence

I don't think Ariel is related to the Greek/Roman gods or Hercules. It seems far more likely that Ariel's father, grandfather, and great grandfather were only named after the Greek/Roman gods. This explains the difference in appearance of Poseidon and Triton in Hercules:TAS and The Little Mermaid franchise.
I agree, Triton is not the son of the greek god Poseidon, but a desceandant of him.

Actually Poseidon is the FATHER of Triton if you looks closer to the real greek mythology.
I don't think Queen Athena of Atlantica is the same being as Athena the Olympian goddess. Athena in the myths is not depicted as part fish. More likely Queen Athena is a mermaid who was named after the goddess.
Also, as much as I love the Ariel/Hercules connection, there's some debate about this. A version of Triton appeared on the Hercules animated series that was green and fish-like and looked nothing like Ariel's father. It's possible that the royal family of the merfolk is simply named after the gods. Then again, it's also possible that Triton, being a demi-god, can change shape. I prefer the second option myself.

Although Ariel's Beginning lists their birth order as Attina, Alana, Adella, Aquata, Arista, Andrina, and Ariel, the original film's song, "Daughters of Triton", strongly implies that their birth order was Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Attina, Adella, Alana, and Ariel. so here's my question who is the oldest of her sisters and youngest before Ariel herself?

I hate to be that person but Ariel's family tree is often done wrong.
Merpeople clearly have greek/roman inspired names so King Triton is simply named after the god Triton who was Hercules cousin. We see him in the animated series god Triton in disney verse has green skin, amphibious features and blue hair.
Triton's family clearly follows a tradition of being named after sea deities so his father is called Poseidon but isn't the god Poseidon same for his father Neptune. Zeus, god Poseidon and Hades have a confirmed father in Hercules animated series and his name is Cronus.
Ariels mother Athena isn't the same as the goddess Athena as she is blue with greyish blue hair as seen in Hercules.
Ursula and King Triton's relationship was a concept that was scrapped and this concept is referenced by outside materials but none are canon. Little Mermaid 2 solidified this by showing Ursula's family. The theory Ursula has powers cause she's part god is debunked as her sister also has powers so it seems she comes from a family of sea witches and she can't be the child of god Poseidon and still be sister to Ariels dad as the merking Poseidon and god Poseidon are 2 different people with 2 different family tree's
Ariel and Hercules aren't related, and this theory is easily debunked (it's simply tradition to name mer royalty after the gods). Also, you forgot Attina's husband, who she was seen marrying in a TLM short story.
You kinda get the cousin thing wrong, Ariel and Hercules are first cousins once removed since you should count from the person who needs the least amount of generations between the first common ancestor and it doesn't matter from who's perspective you're looking. I know I’m late for commenting this, but when Isaac said Titans don’t seem like Zeus and Hades and Poseidon, parents in the Disney universe or Hercules, so he called it it got me thinking. What about kings dad from the owl House, who by the way is a Titan so yeah, I kinda believe more of Greek mythology over when it comes to Hercules and the little mermaid, lore than the little mermaid in Hercules Lore. No ya…. the Poseidon you added in the tree, is not the father of King Triton. He does have a son in the Hercules TV series and it is not the same one from The Little Mermaid.
Also… I have the same theory regarding Ursula being the half sister of both Triton and Morgana.

On the aspect of Ariel's mom and The Hercules movie. If you look at the show and the movie there are two diffrent Athenas. So Ariel's mother is probably just a mermaid who was named after the Goddess to honor her. Her mother could have also been a strong warror but that's me speculating cause we dont know everything about their mother other then she also had many sisters and was the oldest of them. In Heracles Athena is shown as a Warror Goddess that is tall and colored Blue. Inba way to show how she is the opposite of Ares who is Short and colored red.
