    Great review! It's good to hear that they improved paints formula. I like my Winsor&Newton Winton paints enough though, and I bought them because of your recommendation.
    I've found your channel when I wanted to start painting with oils and I'm so happy I did. You have such an amazing community here and I love the fun and straightforward way you explain everything.
    Just wanted to say big thank you! 😊

      Well - Let me just say I am happy you sound me too ❤
      If you like the WN paints I say stick with them or if you run out, perhaps try the Gamblin 1980s series oil paints. I think they are slightly better than WN and are sometimes cheaper too. The cool thing about this video is IF you have a friend or loved one that wants to paint with you... You can always lead them to this kit or maybe get it for them as a present.
      And you are welcome - but not thanks need. I am happy to help with my awesome hair and tips he he he

    My wife and daughter bought this for me for Father's Day. I am enjoying it given I have never done this before. Appreciate the review and I cannot get the white to break...so happy to see this is something a pro has problems with. I have hardly any paint and am not pressing down at all and it still does not break. This makes me so much better because that was just frustrating. I already bought the Windsor since I am out of Tit white using your affiliate links for all my needs.

    Really great review Wild. This should help a lot of people make an informed decision on what to buy. Some real good things, some not so good! (Yay for Winsor & Newton paint though.) Thank goodness there are lots of choices these days! Thank you! Enjoyed it!!! 🥰

    I wish I had your videos as a resource when I first got into oil painting. Another great video full of useful information on BRI products. I love following along to the videos, but never had the cash to shell out on these kits without knowing for sure what the quality was going to be like.

      I think the kit is not needed IF you already have most of the supplies. However, if you are just starting out or you are an enthusiast like me... I would highly recommend it! Even though the kit has change some.

    Great review. Hopefully BRI will see that they are trying to sacrifice quality for more profit but it will backfire with all the ppl complaining and not purchasing their paints anymore. I agree it's almost impossible to find natural brushes in 1 and 2". I had to pay $30 for just one Bib Ross oval brush on Amazon but it was worth it. Keep up the good videos!

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be fabulous if they just made the kit pristine and complete. If the kit had top notch, brushes, tools, and paints.... people would pay more. I dont get why they dont just do that. They would see more profit and we the painters would get awesome supplies

    Thanks for sharing sir. The master paint set, despite its flaws, is definitely worth the extra money over the basic paint set, which lacks the necessary brushes one would need to paint something Bob Ross inspired. Happy painting.

      A lot of artist avoid black alone, and only for some mixing. Using color instead of black, like dark purples or browns, seems to always look better. Been painting for over 60 years and still learning. Great tips.

    Great review on the new kit! Even though you recommend it overall, in some ways it seems like a mixed bag. It appears that they focused more on improving the paints that are included (which is a good thing!), but sacrificed the quality of the brushes in particular. Are the items that come with the kit the same as the ones you can get individually? I wonder if it would be worth it to get the new kit mainly for the reformulated paints, but supplement with the older versions of the brushes by purchasing them individually, if they are still available?

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be a smart move BUT I think you might have a hard time finding the older brushes. Seems like most sites out there are updated to this new version from what I can see. You make have some luck with 3rd party sellers or maybe even eBay.

    Thx for that video! I'm french and Bob Ross products are not sold here! When I tryed wet on wet technique, I used paints not made for this technique, and I reallized quite soon it was a problem. Same problem for the brushes. There is no equivalent here, and I bought my brushes in a hardware store... But with no idea of what kind of bristles I needed. In July, I finally ordered the Bob Ross Master Paint Set. Just to compare with what I had. And now, I ear that these products have been downgraded.... Hard to hear, but thank you. I noticed that the white was too smooth for the technique, and I found a solid paint at Sennelier "Rive Gauche". For the Midnight Black, I have another problem.... I can't find this color in any art shop. I can find Mars, Ivory, lamp etc etc... But no midnight... What shoud I do? And where can I find an alternative for the brushes?? Even Bill Alexander's site doesn't sell a 2" alone! Heeeelp!

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mars or Ivory Black will work just fine. If you can find it, go with Lamp Black ( I believe is the most neutral of black tones.
      As for brushes, I have reached out to a few places to see if I can get some sample to test for BRI alternative brushes. So hopefully I will have something for you soonish!

    ShrinkFlation at its best. Im disappointed in the 2" i recently got. Hairs after one cleaning are all over the board. Doesnt hold like a good ole purdy brush which i am accustom to when painting homes.

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I can't remember BUT I think I reviewed this kit before all the ShrinkFlation thing hit.... So I think just a slight step down in quality for the brushes. I till like the kit and recommend it to new painters then tell them to build up their kit from there.

    Hey wild, great video. I’ve seen some of your videos on the higher level canvases. I feel like I’m almost confident enough to start using level 3 canvases as I like that the canvases are 1.5” thick compared to the cheap ones. I’ve been putting two layers of gesso on the bargain packs and it makes the canvas pretty good. But with the level3 should I tone down the gesso to just 1 layer or not gesso at all. It’ll be my first time using 1 of these expensive canvases so it does make me anxious. Anyway thanks again!

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK.... sooo here is what I would do.
      - 1st: proud of your for wanting to tackle a level 3 canvas.
      - 2nd: I to this day still add at least 1 layer of gesso on everything I paint. Level 3's may not require that extra layer for your style BUT I feel more confident with it applied. Plus I can tone the canvas a color if needed.
      - 3rd: Cheat aka test.... you can buy a level 3 canvas just a smaller size and test it out. This way you will have an idea of what you need to do on a larger size one.
      - 4th: Save money on them... Watch this short video here ( th-cam.com/video/2GkTr-4DZ8s/w-d-xo.html ) to know when they go on sale for close to 70% off
      5th: Your welcome for the awesome answer and you can now become a channel member 😜. Gotta toss in the shameless promotion and SellOut Mode ha ha ha

      I think that is common for most new artist so dont let it get ya down. I bet if you re-paint that painting it will come out great. I don't think you have to copy to start out great BUT I do think having a reference photo when starting out is a good foundation. So perhaps do that. Dear Hugo,
      It's still a process of learning.
      You understand the basics, you grasp the concept of what you shall be doing... however, the knowledge isn't yours as of yet.
      While a bit of theory is really beneficial (and is a must), it's not going to replace your let's say uhm.... muscle memory. Sorry, haven't got a better word for that :).
      You have to feel exactly how the paint behaves with different brushes, how different surfaces (canvas, MDF panels, whatever) have an effect on it, even different pigments/colors can behave differently etc.
      These cannot be truly taught, these must be experienced. There are way too many places, where even the slightest difference from your previous experiences can break your creative process.
      Focus on FINISHING the painting first, then you can analyze it. Turn it around, hang it upside-down, set it aside for some time then visit it again. Look for things you actually like on your painting, and don't forget to observe your mistakes as well. You can even create notes, if you truly want to dive into it.
      Many times, it is really hard to stick to the mental image that pops in your head. It can be ever-evolving.
      First, you want to paint a landscape with a boat then you paint a horse, only to end up with a portrait of the person you saw on the street 3 years ago ^^. This may be a cornered example, but... our mind can go wild in a fraction of a second.
      With a reference image, it is way easier to anchor your mind and calm those "inner waters".
      So to sum up, in the end, it doesn't matter if you use a reference or not, but the most important thing is that you practice.
      Happy painting!

    Is there any way you can start pushing brands that can do the same as what Bob Ross Inc promotes. I am sure you are familiar with Walt and Annette Kowalski, who owns Bob Ross name and products. to push a quiet boycott by pushing all items that can do the same or close to on the Wet on Wet Style. don't refer to it as The Bob Ross style.. either the Wet on Wet style... or even the Bill Alexander style. every time some one says Bob Ross it just is a tragic reminder to what was done to the Ross family, mainly the son Steve Ross. I am curious how much more money was made for Walt and Annette Kowalski every time a you tuber pushes their product and sends traffic to their web site or Amazon page.
