We were fortunate to be alive when this trio took music to another level.

I am pretty sure Geddy wrote this song for his wife Nancy. They were married in 1976 and are still together today. Great song, love how it starts off slow then gets intense.
    Cheers

This for a long time was my favorite Rush song from All the World's a Stage (Live). My uncle played that album to death. He turned me on to Rush...memories.

The mastery of Alex and the guitar solo always makes me smile in this song. He gets it so well.

By far my favorite track on Fly By Night. I wore that 8-track out. The song showed a maturity in their songwriting that would continue their whole career.

I still remember and hear the fade-outs and fade-ins in my mind of the 8-tracks to this day.

Awesome selection John..this song was one of my faves when i saw rush in concert. the anticipation to the buildup live gives you goosebumps because you realize the power they are about to unleash.I caught myself so many times just staring intensely at these 3 guys making all this thunderous noise!..And i mean " noise" in such a beautiful way..3 people in perfect tune with eachother..I miss them very much.

What gets me about this song?
This is Rush doing some of that classic 70s heavy, PRIMAL rock. Primal meaning even though its straightforward its still poweful and hits deep musically. Not complex whatsoever compared to Rush's later records. But yet they did this simple, Primal rock JUST AS GOOD. Yeah it derived from Zep, Sabbath, Deep Purple, but man the songs are still freaking awesome. Just goes to show they could have squeezed out another couple of albums of this sort of music if they wanted to, but they were too restless and creative to remain at that musical train stop and become dinosaur rockers ; )

You have made the right choice to fall in love with Rush, one of the top bands ever, But now I am Requesting for you to do a Reaction to some one you have never done. So first I am going to give some future results by doing this Artist # 1 it will send you down a Rabbit hole so deep you will end up in China, 2nd the voice will touch your heart on every song she sings, She as Done over 160 covers on youtube and 6 of her on written songs, Plus She has signed with Republic Records and should have a album out by next year. The Artist is now 16 Yrs Old she started singing when she was 1 1/2 Years Old she won Norway's got Talent at the age of 7 Years old, You said you like Queen so I Suggest for you to watch her sing Bohemian Rhapsody on AGT Champions 2020, Which she was only 13 Yrs Old, Plus be Prepared once you do a reaction of this Young Artist your Page will blow up from all her followers from all over the world. So now I like to welcome you to the Future # 1 singer in the world which is Angelina Jordan....Trust me this is a must.....Do not let another day go by without doing this reaction...

Very minor correction, I believe the live version you are speaking of is from their first double live album, All the World's a Stage, from 1976. But I could not agree with you more that it is an amazing version of the song. In fact, that entire side 3 of ATWAS with extended versions of Bytor and In the End is probably the best live album side that Rush ever officially recorded. 💯✌

you gotta check out the LIVE version on All The World's A Stage. The songs from the first 4 albums matured along the way the more they played them live. IN THE END is one of them.

Alex always place big even in a simple composition. Large chords and uses of pentonics and you will se he will soon expand his horizons in his solos as he matures as a guitarist.

    • @joedecker3900

His earliest playing was equally as superior to his later playing, and this was really their roots. And amazing already at such a young age.

  • @thomasbeach7307

Not quite seamlessly, but rather intentionally albeit most cleverly. The acoustic introductions sustaining chord at the end is actually manually ramped-up on the tape machine, likely during mastering to match the new key for the electric version. I saw you notice.
