Hi Vince, happy to be joining you on Aitch. Lovely scenery, it was really nice by the lock. Nice people on the boards. I think matt black will be the best on the gunnels. Aitch is coming on nicely.
Leamington spa was a lovely place. I liked the church, a grand building. A shame you couldn't go inside but it was nice seeing Ashby having a walk as well. The park was very pretty. Keep safe on the moorings.
Lots of love. Aunt Babs XXX

I was born in Stepney in the East End but now live in Warwick and go into Leamington quite a lot. I got married in the Glasshouse in 2009 and had the reception in the restaurant next door. It is a lovely area.

You struck a nerve with this one Vince one on finding a place to moor. I had a folding bike that when underway was put in the lazeret but it was a bit of a job, so when on a mooring I'd chain it to the bow rail. Had footsteps on the deck late one night a quick glance out of a porthole and could see two guys in the shadows giggling and pointing, looking out of the wheelhouse window I could see one guy trying to free the bike but he was unsteady on his feet. I opened the window and shouted at him straight he stood up at attention, it just clicked he was a squaddie and as he came down the side of the boat I pointed out the Dunkirk 1940 plaque and said my dad was a Welsh Guardsman. He apologized and said it was a prank, the three of them came back the next morning and apologized again. Now that was in Windsor.
Now if this had bean in Leamington Spar I could have put them in the glass house.
My dad bettered himself and us kids reaped the benefit, I went to work in construction with dad he was a General Forman and so he put me at every trade they had. This was just so I got an understanding of each department and how they fit in with one another. I drove every piece of equipment in the yard. This helped me when I bought my boat that had twin engines, these could steer the boat when underway but really helped when mooring. Having driven crawler tracked machines that were steer by the tracks gave me heads up on twin engines.
I went into QC inspection and joined a consultant company that took me to wonderful places around the world, this helped my children gain a better education and an understanding of the world. Four years in Egypt and the British Int. School plus horse riding around the pyramids on the w/e.
The above company has just offered my granddaughter her tuition fees to become a civil engineer. So me doing things right will help my family in ways I didn't plan for.

Thanks for the very detailed and interesting comment. Life is a funny old game. We are all different, some people think earning as much money as possible is success. As I’ve got older and wiser I’ve come to realise that family friends and quality of life equals happiness, which in my opinion means success. Hope to see you on the next one!

Nice to see you and Ashby. Aitch is looking much better Vince. Looking forward to seeing Aitch in signwriting. It’s a shame your first night had troubled sleep. The next mooring looked much more peaceful and the walk would have done you good. Love the brief history. Being a natural spring, the history probably would have gone way back to the stoneage. I love geology and thinking about the natural structure underground and how the springs are naturally formed is fascinating. Anyway, take care Vince. Xxx

It’s nice to travel along discovering these places Deb, some good, some bad. The elites of the time seemed to have a fascination with springs and the waters. To spend the equivalent of billions of pounds to build up a town in a matter of a few years. Love Vince xxx

Judging by your experiences Vince, I’m not surprised the word “Royal” is dropped frequently from Leamington Spa! Be as much of a fuddy duddy as you like, it proves you have standards and that’s more than some can say about themselves. Leamington looks quite a nice place to visit, even if you have to be a bit careful about your moorings. Every town has its bad bits eh? All the Best!

What a good phrase ‘better yourself’ is, It meant a lot and everybody was at it and there were WEA or such classes in everything to help the bettering. Now, bettering must be handed out on a plate without the receiver doing much to help. It is a right! Those were the days. Leamington Spa sounds elegant, I picture it quite romantically. It still looks worth a visit. Most interesting, and still lovely.

I always say, better my situation Rikki. And I did work hard to better it. It eventually allowed me the freedom to spend my later years doing something that I wanted to do. It’s amazing how they built all that beautiful architecture, in just a few years because of the spring water. See you in the next one Rikki.

Really enjoyed that, ta. The graffiti is high level in my view, in most cases an enhancement. Leamington has one thing over Bath: the lack of screaming seagulls. In Bath, they are a right pest. In terms of snob rating, Bath is of course a ROMAN Spa, Leamington a mere Georgian upstart.
