The corpse in the bag was Cho, the "Sword Hunter". Enishi couldn't kill Kaoru b/c she reminded him of his sister. He targets innocents to punish their protector: Kenshin. In the original story, they actually fight twice, each winning once. Enishi has a counter for every one of Kenshin's techniques, including the final attack. The main factors are their mental state, whoever was more determined got the victory. His revenge was more brutal in that version since, after winning that first fight, he made everyone think that he had murdered Kaoru, effectively killing Kenshin's spirit. The mystery was uncovered by Aoshi (dude w/ the long white coat), who had a more significant role in the manga/anime. This is only supposed to be the 2nd time that Kaoru gets kidnapped since her capture in the 2nd movie wasn't in the source material. The anime never got to adapt the Enishi arc b/c it was cancelled after ratings went down due to an entire filler season that was only meant to give the manga time to finish. The flashback sequence in this film is actually a montage of scenes from the 5th movie, which is a prequel. Why they didn't release it the other way around to avoid showing spoilers, I have no idea. But the origin of Kenshin's 2nd scar was also prematurely revealed by him in the 1st film for no reason.
OHHHHHH THAT WAS CHO?!?! THE BABY KIDNAPPER?!? So after their encounter where Enishi & Cho both drew swords he ended up actually fighting and killing him? Woah...I don't know how I missed that part...I thought they were actually going to strike an alliance or something the way Cho say the sound of Kenshin's name made him want to draw blood. That's crazy...

You want the murking, wait till the next movie comes out. It's a prequel that tells the story of Kenshin and Tomoe.
The sword dodging is completely real and top notch in this film. I teach and train this. You have to wait till it's inches from connecting or at full commitment before you move, otherwise the attacker will just reposition the attack. Fun thing is: Once you get comfortable dodging a sword, punches are so much less intimidating and easier to dodge as well

There will be one more in the series. It's the prequel. It's based on Trust and Betrayal OVA.

There's a reason why Enishi surrender before Saito on the first fight scene. Not only that it more easy for him to investigate our boy Kenshin, but also because Saito have already in position for the strongest Shinsengumi strike: "Gatotsu" !! No one can take that then leave one piece, it's a dangerous strike that you definitely did not want to face against
its today! haha

I could tell he was struggling with that a little bit. Especially when he tried to choke her but then ended up stopping and throwing up. Can't wait till the next movie drops!

@@edn It's called Samurai X: Reflection it's a 2 part OVA, it included Tomoi's bro Inishi's animated part which is only like 1/3 of the movie. Kenshin then his master training dirty boy up before Kenshin leaves and it starts to show the characters lives in a "peaceful" world. It's really different tone wise from what generally draws people to an anime movie so I was hoping they'd slip it in, despite how sad it is, since they hit up a lot of other parts in this movie.
@@edn That was an OVA that the original creator considered non canon so you don't have to worry about it.

If you watch the anime, it's way better because the movie misses a lot of the key parts in the anime that they should of put it in the movie.
This arc was never animated. The anime was cancelled due to low ratings because of fillers before this arc was adapted and the arc was never revisited in later OVAs.
