For me yes this record has held up. I can’t say it’s my favorite album only because it’s so slow but it’s still unbelievable. My favs are Dreamlover, AYNAF. Music Box, never forget you.

I love all of her albums, but Music Box is my all time favorite. Is those power house ballads, arrangements, vocals, and lyrics that made me a bigger fan of hers. Dream lover, anytime you need a friend, amongts other, and my all time fave mariah song from that album is, All I ever Wanted. What sets apart mariah carey from other artist is her writing skills and the rich buttery tone that blends well in many genres of music. Her songs stand the test of time because they still sound good after 30 years.
This was my first understanding of a Mariah album as a kid. “Hero” was my elementary school graduation song. My favorite song on here is “AYNAF” I can’t wait for the anniversary edition on 9/8/23

It's funny because Music Box when compared to her later albums, has some of the strongest B-side material including the ones that didn't get sold on the initial America release ("do you think of me" and "everything fades me".)
Mariah is an amazing artist and i love all her songs.. this album definitely holds up she has always made timeless music for me. my favorite songs are ATYNAF, Now That I Know and Everything Fades Away. just got done listening to her new released songs and they are just as beautiful as ever and fit really well with the original album. her song writing is so magical. this album will be on repeat for a while
Ppl get stuck on the released hits and completely disregard the rest of the songs and the b-side songs, to me my faves def most of them are the obscured ones, music box being my fav song of all time, but along with never forget you, just to hold you once again, all I ever wanted, songs that literally touches the soul cause of the deep lyrics. And now with the new release of new songs, My prayer is a fucking gem and Im obsessed with it and cant believe was kept from us for so long, also all I live for extended edition fucking great. This album I fear still has more to offer than ppl realize. And also it was the perfect step into Daydream wich was literally that. Peace.
Pd. Dont forget the amazing remixes specially the one where she goes bunkers and has no chill with her vocals and went insane in the Anytime you need a friend remix with C&C. I have yet to see a singer go off like that. Cheers.
The very first album I ever had when it was released was her self titled album with Vision of Love.
Music Box for me personally is one of the best albums she has released. I love Music Box. my fav are Hero, Everything Fades Away, Never Forget You, Without You.
I was on the brink of my early 20’s when Music Box was released and I was already a huge fan of hers. following her career since Vision Of Love was released and seeing her film clips on Aussie TV at the time. I knew after hearing Vision Of Love she was going to be the biggest artist to grace us with her not only her insane vocals, but also her growth as an artist musically, lyrically and in her career. Music Box is a legend album and always will be up there among the heights where it should be.
Hero got me through a very nasty divorce, I would play this to myself and sing it to myself reminding myself I escaped such abuse and that I WAS the Hero at that time. Everything Fades Away is again, the same meaning for me, meaning one day I was married, owned my home and had a son who was a toddler at the time, and the next nothing ever stayed the same, everything faded away into a spiteful
vengeful ex husband who not only kept all of belongings I worked hard for, including the house, but also became a monster and I had to fight like crazy to get myself and my son out. Which I did. Hero became such an large part of my life, even though Hero/Music Box was out for some time then.
Your so right what you said about Mariah. What she has accomplished over the years has been absolutely insane. What a pivotel moment now though to celebrate this incredible talent 30 years later of the album that actually defined her career musically and the genre she would
tap into and spread throughout a much larger audience by doing
so. She is def THE BEST female artist ever to
exist. I know from here on in, she will always maintain this title in many many years to come…

I agree 100 percent with you my man. I love "Dreamlover", it's actually my favorite Mariah Carey song ever and I have so many great memories of that song being 9 years old at the time. But I agree, the rest of the "Music Box" album is all ballads and 3 uptempo songs. As beautiful as the album is, it's kinda boring and I love Mariah Carey with all my heart. "Hero" though is such a beautiful, classic song along with "Without You" and "Anytime You Need A Friend". The title song "Music Box" is very sweet with the music box music playing in the opening and closing of the song.
Hi, I´m from Spain, 22 years old when Music Box was out, every evening at 8 or 9 I went to bed with exciment to hear this album, it was like having a date with someboy that you could not skip, I think a heard it hundreds of times in a row. In some way its the best Mc album, but Daydream was even better; but I didnt hear it so much cos they have a lot in common; yes it was because of Walter A., after these albums Walter is not so present and never again two albums so alike, which is nice. If Music box sold so much, there is a reason and it was that nobody had ever heard so much beauty in every song.

I dont agree. Dreamlover and I've Been Thinking About You are both vfery R&B influenced and fit in really well with 'Never Forget You' which also feels very R&B.
