- Short History Of BOKATOR CAMBODIAN MARTIAL ARTS
Bokator is a Cambodian martial art form that involves close hand-to-hand combat, ground techniques and weapons. Bokator is one of the earliest Cambodian martial art and is said to be the close quarter combat system used by the armies during the Angkor era. Practitioners are trained to strike with knees, elbows, hands, feet and even the head. Sword, Long sword, Long sticks, Short sticks, Shield, are commonly used as weapon. There have a lot of technique in the first level of Bokator Martial Arts of Cambodia.
ល្បុក្កតោគឺជាល្បែងក្បាច់គុនខ្មែរមួយដែលពាក់ព័ន្ធនឹងការប្រយុទ្ធគ្នាយ៉ាងជិតស្និទ្ធបច្ចេកទេសដីនិងអាវុធល្បុក្កតោ។ ក្បាច់គុនល្បុក្កតោគឺជាសិល្បៈក្បាច់គុនខ្មែរដំបូងបំផុតនិងត្រូវបានគេនិយាយថាជាប្រព័ន្ធប្រយុទ្ធជិតស្និទ្ធដែលត្រូវបានប្រើប្រាស់ដោយកងទ័ពក្នុងសម័យអង្គរ។ ។ អ្នកហ្វឹកហាត់ត្រូវបានហ្វឹកហាត់ដើម្បីធ្វើកូដកម្មជាមួយជង្គង់កែងដៃជើងនិងក្បាល។ ដាវ, ដាវវែង, ដំបងវែង, ដំបងខ្លី, ខែលការពារ, ត្រូវបានគេប្រើជាទូទៅជាអាវុធ។ មានបច្ចេកទេសជាច្រើននៅក្នុងកម្រិតដំបូងនៃក្បាច់គុនល្បុក្កតោនៃប្រទេសកម្ពុជា។ - บันเทิง

Khmer say that bokator is the progenitor of Muay Thai. I would argue they took it and improve on it. I've seen other bokator fights and there not very define. Maybe there still working out the kinks.

Bokator has evolved into modern "Kun Khmer". A good example would be old English boxing, "Why do british boxers not fight in that same weird stance and punch from 1800s?". Well, it's because western boxing has evolved and became more technical.
Dancing was just a form to loosen up the fighters, just like Twai Kru in beginning of match.
Bokator's elements of strikes as depicted from the temple is used in modern combat styles.

Dancing is just a form of the fighting style. For example, in Taekwondo or Karate, there are forms that aren't really used for actual fighting. Bokator has evolved into modern form of combat such as Kun Khmer or MMA. Now you ask, "MMA?". Bokator also did rear naked chokes, elbows, kicks, and wrestling(*as depicted on ancient temple carvings). It was the complete fighting form.

Now I understood why this martial art is not popular in world stage. What a boring fight! After 4 min. fighters still not fight. And all along 7 min just fight and got only 1 exciting shot by red side. Dance and only touch each other. And most of all, is this a youth tournament? How come the fighters look so newbie. They are not as lean as they should. Also seems scare to fight.
