I also think the bonnet is ridiculous on this. Not only for its height, but also completely unnecessary length. Makes it much harder to comprehend the size of the vehicle and see the corners while driving.
It looks like there are cameras all around it, I saw some next to the front wheels. Maybe they are for sensors too, but probably help in 360 view. However, I agree the hood is enormous, as all recent American trucks and full size SUV's. They all have this blunt nose style that's actually increased pedestrian injuries and fatalities since 2009 by more than half. Far as I can tell, there is no rule in U.S. about hood height (or hardly any standard) or maybe vehicles over a certain weight are exempt; that is more likely the reason. Pedestrians be dammed I guess. The look of the front of the vehicle is more important in this case.. Take a look at a late 90's SUV's or trucks, and there is a huge difference in height, pedestrians at least had a chance back then..

We don't have pedestrian crash safety testing in the US. We have some sensor requirements, but that's it. They crash test for pedestrians in Europe, Australia and Japan. Which is why these vehicles either aren't sold there or are only sold to special license holders. For most of Europe the largest personal truck Ford sells is the ranger.
As an American this is fine, I don’t see any statistics of pedestrians being killed at a high rate due to large vehicles, but the opposite. We know how to drive these things, and make sure children look before crossing the street 😂

Yup, and I wouldn't mind fighting this biased little fella. Cadillac crushed it. (Kinda ripped off some Lincoln styling cues😂, not Range Rover) but still.

The Escalade or any big American vehicle has never been designed for the European market, this is literally just a normal sized truck. Its crazy how many Europeans in the comments are stimming about the size of it, this size of a vehicle is a normal occurrence in America, RELAX.
I assumed they were all just really bad drivers 😂
Lol. Exactly.
People that don't live in the US just simply don't understand how vast it is and how long the distances are. There's a reason we don't have to contend with 5 foot wide hedgerow paths (sorry: "1.75 meters") and medieval streets.

Would love to size size comparisons between a cullinan. Not a fan of electric cars still, but this actually looks like an incredible bus to roll around in. It's so stupid. There are so many reasons why SUVs are bad and the positive arguments are mostly false and just got into peoples brains due to marketing. But be aware that also in europe we experience this trend. The most sold car class is the SUV since many years now and just watch the street, the cars get unnecessary long and especially high.

Love this. Two people who clearly hated the bones of one another from the outset barely bothering to pretend otherwise. Ollie's contempt is both palpable and justified.
I don’t want to imagine what a 4 tonne truck would do to another car, when the driving gets distracted doing her nails and texting while driving.

It might be safe inside of that vehicle but what's it like for the other vehicles that it hits?? And not to mention how much damage it'll do to the roads.
Others will be killed instantly. Not even a contest. Can’t fight physics.
You’d need a class c1 truck license to drive one in the UK. So if you passed your test after 1997 you’d have to take a separate test. That’s if you’re going to do things legally

I get what he's saying about safety, but realistically most of these will be sold in the US where full sized trucks are everywhere. It's big but nothing new to Americans.
European reviewers have been making hay about the size of US vehicles for as long as I can remember. Clarkson was doing it in the 90's...
European car companies have made billions selling oversized luxury vehicles for decades! If I am going to shell out six figures for a vehicle, It damn well better offend these pompous hypocrites!
NHTSA study put the Silverado at #1 for vehicles involved in the most deadly crashes in America, followed closely by the Ford f-150. The Ford Explorer, f-250, and Ram1500 also made the list.
Studies by independent insurance companies will consistently bump up pickup trucks as the top 20 deadliest as well. And it's not always pedestrian or other vehicle safety, rolling over these vehicles is very easy compared to a Honda Civic, and there have been failures as recently as 2020 for many of their roofs to support the weight of the vehicle as required.
And finally, A 2023 IIHS study found that vehicles that are tall and blunt, such as a large pickup or SUV, are 43.6% more likely to cause death in a collision with a pedestrian. But they figured this out in Europe in the 80's, which is why they actually have pedestrian crash standards there, while we don't.
"so for shorter people, their safety, that front end is tall..." "ya so we made sure the front is big enough for groceries" 💀💀💀 completely dodged the question.
Cadillac has an extensive suite of safety features, it's not going to run into any pedestrians, it will stop itself even without driver intervention. The other dumb question he asks is whether people take escalades offroad, the simple answer is no, it's a Cadillac. it does not go off pavement...

Don't get the faux sense of surprise. You drove around in the previous escalade and anyone who's spent 5mins near US roads knows the vehicles are large. The size won't feel like that big on a US road which is the market it's for. No shit a golf would look small next to it. But a golf looks small next to an F Truck or Ram too.
It's bizarre how GM designer just dodged and ignored every question about pedestrian and other cars safety.

I also think the bonnet is ridiculous on this. Not only for its height, but also completely unnecessary length. Makes it much harder to comprehend the size of the vehicle and see the corners while driving.
Wow! So you got a chance to drive it? When I saw it in person it looked about the same size as a Range Rover LWB
