That’s just a classic choke job from Kalinskaya. There’s a reason she has never won any career titles on the WTA tour. If you can’t close out a match against Jessica Pegula ( who has only 4 career titles herself going into this match) then you can’t really say you’re close to even being a top player on the tour.
@@juismac She is a Top 20 Player. One of the best in the world. Grand Slam Quarterfinalist, Dubai Finalist, beating Number One Swiatek in straight sets...She is one of the best, though choked today
@@federicog.566 If you’re talking about Kalinskaya she is not close to being one of the best. She”s not a top 20 player and she has never won any tournament on tour ( even WTA 250) plus she is considered to be one the biggest chokes on the tour. As talented as any on tour but mentally unable to go all the way as she demonstrated here today.
Nice win for Jessica, I was at Wimbledon last year and saw her play Vondrousova in the quarter, Jessica was 4-1 up in final set and had a point for 5-1 and lost, I’m sure she had nightmares after that match so it was nice to see the opposite today.
Man, mad props to Kalinskaya and her team. She was able to push Jessica to her absolute limit. And congrats to Jessica on securing an epic victory. What a cliffhanger of a match.
Goodness!!! I have said it many times that the fighting spirit of Pegula is something to pay attention to. What a match. Well deserved and well earned. Congratulations Pegula.
Oh WOW! What. A. MATCH!! Anna was LOCKED in, but that FIGHT from Jess was INCREDIBLE! So glad to see Jess secure the title, and Anna is doing her big one and we love to see it! Congrats to both ladies!
Couldn't be happier for Jess. They both deserved to win. She just kept fighting till the last point. After beating Coco I was like Jess you better take it all ha! She did. Hopefully she also wins Wimbledon.
Exactly my thoughts. Also her defense during championship points reminded me of her Auckland final match against Serena Williams. Jessica Pegula was playing unbelievable in her defense until Serena being the legend that she is stepped up her game significantly. So glad Pegula upped her game and defended magnificently.
History repeating itself for Anna Kalinskaya - very similar circumstances to her loss to Jasmine Paolini in Dubai earlier this year. Classy from Jessica Pegula at the end - actually apologising to Kalinskaya, giving her a hug and also going over to Kalinskaya's coach, Patricia Tarabini, to shake her hand. Classy and very supportive of Jannik Sinner (Kalinskaya's boyfriend) to mention her in his own victory speech in Halle and offer his own commiserations. He seemed disappointed for her - bless him.
Incredible! Pegula has ice water going through her veins. Great match by both! Great highlights, tho of course it would be nice if it was longer than 5 mins. I'd say 10-12 mins would be solid.
Pegula and Coco are my American favs and Pegula just has a way with high’s and then low’s … she is definitely onto something here and I wish her the best on the grass court ! ❤ 🏆 she needed this to boost her game !
Wow, how many times was "JPEG" down but not out?! Jess is a real fighter who just kept "showing up" when it probably all looked pretty bleak! Congratulations on a great match, to both women!
Experience and mental strength made JPEG win this thrilling match. Anna deserves high accolades too and almost won her first WTA title with 5 championship points staved off by JPEG! Down from 4-1 final set she took the title. The trophy though is not appealing like winning a Disney tournament.
Bravo, Jessica! You played phenomenal throughout this open, and I especially loved the game in the semifinal. Hope you do a great job at Wimbledon. 🙏🙏🙏
Well well done JP! AK needs to master how to finish a match! She lost against Jasmine Paolini in quite a similar fashion a few months ago. But she's talented and young so it'll surely come soon. I appreciate her, she's quite the placid girl and above all she doesn't shriek like some other players, Potatova etc.
Kalinskaya had a great tournament and very competitive final in spite of the loss. She is now in the top 20 rankings so although she lost this she has collected 2 runner up trophies this year and collected an impressive record against many higher ranked players.
If you actually don’t win the tournament it really doesn’t count even beating top 10 players but end up without a trophy. We remember the winners only. How many tournaments has she won in her career. Well done Jess
@@carolinegardner8214 Obviously everyone wants to get the winner trophy but 2nd place is the next best thing. You do get invited to the trophy ceremony and get a runner up trophy and make a speech. Also second place in a 500 event is worth more points than winning an 250 event.
Nobody beats Kalanskya only beats herself with unsound fearful mind at crunch time Her talent with that backhand is superior! Mentally undeveloped I should know my own major weakness!
Congrats to JPeg, one of the tour's most worthy competitors and a class lady. Condolences to the beautiful and beautifully talented Anna, who just could not convert her chances into victory. Either lady was deserving of the trophy. Good tennis. Good highlights!
Kalinskaya is gon be pissssssssed. She was so close. Not like she choked all her match points tho, Pegula just played really well and was aggressive for almost all of the match points down she won. That being said, Kalinskaya's game is so pleasing to the eye. So free flowing and her footwork is so good, reminds me a lot of Stefanie Graf with how effortlessly she moves while not looking like she's really rushing too much. A lot of little steps. Very well balanced, graceful in a way.
THE VICTORY BELONGS TO THE MOST TENACIOUS ONES. What a path-breaking final encounter in Berlin. From where to where, it was really an extraordinary performance from Jessica Pegula, saving 5 championship points, withstanding the vicious onslaughts and accomplishing a gorgeous comeback. While Pegula didn't take part in any tourney during the first portion of this season due to her injury, she has competed with her resolution, ambition, energy and aspiration. The experience is the proof of this championship. Furthermore, it epitomizes the real consistency, proficiency, mastery and professionalism of this American player. I must state that it will be one of the most memorable titles of her career. Massive congratulations to Jessica Pegula!
Pegula saving 5 match points by forcing errors out of Anna then winning on her first match point - so brutal.
Cruel 😣.
Not sure all those match points were forced errors though 🤔
@@IggyAzaleaProMax Are you confused about the point of athletic competitions? How on earth is it cruel?
Tbh those were tense points from Kalinskaya
@@PeterPeach21 all of them were errors from Anna - Pegula just kept in the ralley returning the ball until Anna made a mistake
Pegula disappears for half the year and comes back strong with a title ❤ love to see it!!

That Championship Point #4 save was crazy!
No kidding. Remarkable gets by Pegula.
Kudos to Pegula for her strength under pressure, winning the tiebreaks against Gauff and Kalinskaya to earn the title.
