Thank you 🙏🏻 this technique is so wonderful; it’s perfect for creating exciting design potential, save money, will help heal the environment and, most importantly, save lives. Absolutely revolutionary.

Truly revolutionary! Can't wait to see it!

how can we (the start ups) innovate with prototypes with zoa? is there an email so to speak for designer samples?

    Is it biodegradable ?

I do hope people do understand that this is made out of sugar … Growing more sugar has an negative impact on our environment and the people who live near these areas. So I hope that in the process of introducing new fashion materials, we think about all of us!
Plus, unless people don’t eat anymore meat… we will still have cow leather. Use it!

Zoë Verginia I still have to research on the sugar part myself but you do raise a good point with the animals being used for meat anyway. But still, isn’t this a great step forward? Meat can also be consumed more responsibly (beyond eating less). I’m sure this is something that can be solved, maybe we’re just missing a couple of puzzle pieces before creating a ‘perfect’ and complete puzzle. I’m very much looking forward to see how this will unfold!

He said that cultured leather is a gateway to get people into cultured meat, so one step at a time.

If you told me that it was sustainable, I would laugh and ask how so?

I like how he asks who already know what Biofab. was. Then basically everyone raised their hands, and he still explains it to everyone again. Also I hate that he had to explain what DNA was. LOL he didn't give away any secretases on how they do what they do. Also this means that your leather is now GE where the animal leather is only GMO. You still have to grow the sugar source, ie maze, which will be grown far from where the laboratory would be to now grow the yeast. OOOH and he brought up sustainability!!! :) it will still be an "or" tradeoff. OH and always this line of "livestock being the biggest users ... blah blah" tis is an inaccurate quoting from a paper what is probably unknown to anyone, we just hear this and repeat. Protozoa or yeast, not the same? Most all laboratory media require multiple components from either plants or other microorganisms which all need a sugar source which largely come from crops.

What will happen to the hides produced by the meat industry, they will still be plentiful, it is also ecologically sound since they are a product of the input.
