    Used to love this cartoon - me and my mate Barry used to play 'Danger Mouse and Penfold' - and usually I had to be Penfold :D

    LOVED LOVED LOVED Dangermouse as a kid growing up in the US in the mid '80s!!
    The cartoon was shown on the Nickelodeon Channel. I probably discovered DM sometime around 1983 or 1984...
    Anyway, years later, I was deployed to the Horn of Africa with US Special Operations. As I was going into the PX one day, a British SAS Colonel met me coming the other way. He was wearing a red t-shirt with the "DM" logo on it. I asked him if he had seen Baron Greenback anywhere recently. He was absolutely floored that an American not only recognized his shirt, but was a HUGE fan as well!
    (Just re-watched them on Netflix recently & they still kick ass...)
    "He's the strongest, he's the quickest, he's the BEST!"

    This cartoon was the reason I watched Nickelodeon growing up!!
    The cartoon and British humor are even more enjoyable as an adult now that the jokes don’t fly over my head!
    Honor mention - to another favorite - the nearly forgotten “Banana Man”

    This looks like a show I would've loved if it had been carried here. My only experience back then with English TV was Benny Hill (which I immediately thought of when that Thames logo and jingle started.) 😁

    Danger Mouse was big here in Australia in the early 80's. From memory it was on the ABC channel?. There was many other shows played here from England. Tony, do you remember a show in the 80's called Metal Mickey?.

    As a kid born in Argentina in 1980, I can imagine your surprise. I can still sing the Spanish version of the opening song. I was a fan of the show and I think that opened the door to understand and appreciate British humor (we also had Benny Hill on TV, and later I discover Monty Python). I never imagined that figures existed!! They look cool!!

    This is my favourite cartoon of all time. Love it and i have a collection of memerobilia for him. As well as your figures there they also released a 10 inch DM with jet pack. I have this and the car which were both gifted to me. I tried watching the new cartoon but it just felt wrong without the 2 iconic voices of DJ & TS in the main roles. Nice to see the others. I may pick them up to finish the set. Also before these came out there was also a 25th Anniversary set of 6 resin figures released as well. I have these and they are very desireable these days with the car and Bomb being the most sought after. Not checkedvalues lately as i know i'll never sell them.

    Very random thing I noticed is on the DM figures the string of his eye patch has been printed as going around the left side of his head around his left ear like how it was on the classic version while in the actual cartoon of the 2015 version the string appears to be he's wearing it around just the top of his head. Time stamps for comparison
    Classic 0:16
    2015 cartoon 2:05
    2015 figure 3:14

    I saw these toys before the series aired at Toy Fair and they were most impressive. What ruined the reboot was the fact they made the characters human sized.
    The postbox HQ then had to become a skyscraper for the gag to work.
    I did a video about DM for it's anniversary that was appreciated by former employees of Cosgrove Hall.

  • @GrilloTheFlightless
    @GrilloTheFlightless ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In my opinion this was a terrible toy line.
    I was a child of the 80s and loved Dangermouse and when the reboot came out I was pleased that my kids would get Dangermouse too. For what it’s worth, the reboot is very good. Stephen Fry was born to play the part of Colonel K. Although I was baffled as to why Baton Greenback became Baron Von Greenback and suddenly acquired a stereotype German accent for now apparent reason. So naturally we got the toys for my kids.
    The problem with these toys is that they just aren’t very robust. The knee and elbow joints pop apart with the gentlest of manipulation which made them very hard to play with. Not so much of an issue for an adult who collects toys to display, but absolutely lousy for kids wanting to play with them. And let’s be honest, that is their main function. I lost count of how many times I had to hear “dad, Dangermouse’s arm’s come off again” and I spent more time that I really wanted reassembling broken rodents. Eventually limbs started going missing altogether and the hadn’t even seen 6 months worth of play.
    Toys just aren’t made to last anymore. It’s almost as if the manufacturers actually want them to fall apart easily so that parents go out and buy new ones…..oh! Hang on. That can’t be what they intended all along surely?!

  • @DoctorInk20
    @DoctorInk20 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I also had no clue these existed. Consider my mind blown. 🤯 *Jazwares* have proven themselves to be exceptional when it comes to action figures the past few years. I've been collecting their 3 3/4" _Fortnite_ figures and, honestly, they're top of the line. I suppose my major gripe would be availability of some lines, which is probably how I missed these.
    As for the show, I watched _Danger Mouse_ reruns on Boomerang back in the day. I think I appreciate the writing a lot more as an adult - it's so sharp! Even now, I still laugh at so much of the dialogue. Same with _Count Duckula._ Haven't seen much of the newer show, but it looks good enough. Still not quite as good the original, but then again, what is? 😆

    • @Cdr2002
      @Cdr2002 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kinda wish Jazzwares still had the Mortal Kombat toy license since no figure company has managed to put out a suitably diverse roster of the franchise’s characters and both current lines take forever to come out and are too expensive

    • @DoctorInk20
      @DoctorInk20 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Cdr2002 Yeah, I'm with you there. I actually wasn't aware of that line either. Just looked them up - pretty decent, overall. From around the _Armageddon_ era, I'm guessing?
      A big problem is that _Mortal Kombat_ has become a nostalgic collector property. An exclusively (more or less) adult fanbase immediately hikes up the price, because of the demand in detail and quality for a niche product.
      It's a shame, 'cos if it wasn't for the notorious gore of the franchise, the _MK_ fighters would make great mass market toys. Like you said, the roster alone has so much variety. Wouldn't mind a Jax figure, personally.

I was thinking of getting these figures and the Danger Car, but when I saw they were done by Jazwares, I decided against it. I bought a bunch of their 4"-scale Mortal Kombat figures many years ago, and the plastic quality on those was terrible -- several of the joint-pegs snapped just taking them out of the bubble insert.
