Good duo and great review. Matty is putting in some work with all these reviews, the xbox showcases, and now hosting a SS+ episode? Cannot wait for the DDxSS episode, there is so much to talk about now and I hope you guys do a long episodes cause there is so much to cover. Micah on more is awesome as well, still waiting for Holly to show up on one of these!
I love the move of long form coverage/review/discussion on a game months after release and not immediately moving on by the end of the week or when any other game exists
Gonna have to side with Micah on this one - while the gameplay and music were great, the story didn't work for me (same issue as OPT 1). My problem is that Ch 1 for each character is usually interesting to learn about each party member, but then all the chapters in-between leading up to the conclusion feel dragged on and heavily padded. The conclusions to each were good, but it makes me think these 8 stories should have just been 2 hour vignettes each and then far more focus put on a broad story instead of just at the end. Also I couldn't stand how every chapter of each character's gameplay follows a very similar structure. Go to a town, use path actions, end up in a dungeon, and then fight a boss. I know that's how most JRPGs kind of are, but this was just so on the nose knowing exactly how every chapter is going to play (with some tiny exceptions). Ended up skipping 3 of the characters' last chapters because it was just too boring. But defeating Galdera and having fun class combos again was very fun!
My boy Temenos deserves more praise! I loved his storyline and he had one of the best side characters in Crick 😭 Game overall is amazing! I got the platinum and it’s probably my GOTY if not the runner up.
I didn't finish Octopath Traveler II, mostly because near end game I noticed how low leveled some characters were and I halted story progeess to grind them up. I feel like I should get back into it now, though.
Man I just cannot fathom thinking the first game's storylines are better than the second game's, and this is coming from someone who has defended that first game as one of my favorite RPGs ever since it released. But if Octopath 1 is in my top 20 games of all time, Octopath 2 is in my top 5. It is a massive improvement across the board.
Castti was probably who I was least interested in from their first chapters, but man does her story pick up. She might have ended up my favorite, as well. Definitely had my favorite story moments.
The reason why the infamous 50 percent is wrong us because you had to beat it on good and bad for the platinum. So a large part of the 34 percent is also in the 18 percent
I'll have to try it out. I dropped the original after 30 hours because I was underleveled, but I the way you talk about the second game sounds awesome. Darker stories usually hit harder.
Hell yeah! So happy to see Octopath II get more coverage!
Matty is making a game? This is my first time hearing it.
He and Colin did a great SS+ episode on the topic a few weeks back. Definitely worth the listen

Started with Throne, who i liked, but Castii ended up being my favorite character.

Thanks for doing this cast guys, always appreciate the spoilercast for games that aren't God of War and RE4

Octopath 2 is miles better than the 1st one story wise
I love the first game but yeah it is not even close.
Worst story was Agnea's, best Throne/Temenos' 😎
