Blob on the controller protects the shift register used to send the button states in a stream of data. Blob on the main board hides the "NES on a chip"… a common part that reduces the core circuitry of an NES clone into a single component.
It's not really for protection. It's called chip on board construction. The die is bonded directly to the board and the epoxy holds everything in place. It's cheaper than using a separate package for the chips.
Thanks for sharing I thought it was a full size one they was selling I wanted to get one and mod it but sheesh I don't think so but thanks again for showing us
@@wfg97079 It's a Spansion S29GL064N90TFI04. It's a TSOP48 NOR Flash chip, so if you have the Xgecu T48 you'll need to have the "ADP_F48_EX-1" in order to both read and write to it. I can't make heads or tails of the firmware dump, it just looks like garbidaly goop to me. Also, the pads for the chip on the PCB are ULTRA fragile, you will PROBABLY lift them when desoldering.
I _accidently_ destroyed mine while desoldering the NOR flash chip. Those pads and traces are attached to the PCB via hope and prayer. Atleast it gave me an excuse to decap the IC. And, wow! It is a COMPLEX chip! Multiple memory blocks, a pretty small process node, it looks like any other mid range microcontroller! Sadly no part numbers on the die.
I would love to turn one of these into a TV for movies And cartoons, but I don't know how easy it would be to find a board small enough to fit inside of there that can also take that screen
You could potentially use a raspberry pi zero w, I believe it has a slot for a preferal, it's also wireless. Might be able to stream your phone to it for an image 🙂
Could you mod a raspberry pi zero or a mini and resolder the connectors into an actual mini NES console? Imagine if you will turning the little NES into an SD card reader, of some sort that wires directly to the zero with higher rez screen?
hold the a+b buttons while powering on for the suprise
DAMNIT! I should've tried that before I accidently destroyed mine!
What happens
@@Ene4lyfe it's like a testing screen. I think the factory workers use it to see if all things are functioning properly like buttons and sound

No problem 😃
Cool. Looks like I’m getting one since I can take off the mini-NES for a keychain. Then of course the game can live in the car too for a while.
Lol, that'll be great
No, that NOR flash chip is erasable! I just erased and programmed mine, and it worked.
Any more details?
How ? And can I add super Mario bros?

Actually i bought one today to use it for a diorama. 😁
That's awesome 👍
That lil screen might not be hard to find at all actually. It looks exactly like a screen that comes in gameboy screen upgrade modkits.
I’m definitely gonna buy one and throw away the fake nes box in the middle 😂 thanks for the tip

I wish it had a video input: I'd buy one, if I could play DCD's on it
Was really hoping i can put custom roms on there 😢
So I could undo the hot glue, turn the little thing around, and then have the nes facing the right way!
Yes

Sounds possible, may have to replace the CRT at that point and possibly 3d print a new one. However still completely possible
Five below only gets my money from pizza chips and shrimp chips snacks. 😆
There's a version with an Atari 2600 as well !
Funny enough, the TV for it is also an older model xD
Could you you send me a link if you could find one?
@MCDNetwork MCD ! Check out the new LGR Blerbs video ! XD
Are you talking about Atari 2600 Tiny Arcade TV with 10 Video Games?
@@ShyGuyBay yep ! LGR Blerbs has an Xbox too !
@@MCDNetwork and I couldn't find a link ! XD my bad
Without watching

What if you swap the chip with the games with another one with other games on it from a different version? One with actual good nintendo games.
Assuming that the ones with the rims you want is on the same type of chip, in theory that could work
Not a crt screen man.
Cathode Ray Tube. CRT. Thats definitely not a tube.
Nice Video ! Sub & Like ! And Love Nes Retro Games !
