Swordsoul is probably the safest competitive deck in the game. They haven't eaten any hits (TCG Protos notwithstanding), it's pretty straight forward to pilot, can work through hand traps, and is pretty much guaranteed to win you some duels. On top of that, it doesn't require much tweaking during format changes.
It was the first deck I tried to make after branded in MD started getting bans and it took me a while to make the list especially since I was doing it before the secret pack… I then went on to have to have ten consecutive losses to tear, sprightly, branded, tribrigade, heroes, labrynth and mirror matches so I gave up. It feels like it can play through anything sometimes but I never really felt that when playing against good opponents. I think I’m just not compatible with the playstyle.
Well, imo yes and no. I played Swordsoul for a while both in TCG and Master Duel, and the deck is pretty powercripped now... The first issue is that the combo line is often the same, also you need the normal summon and Impermanence on Mo Ye or Taia can kill you. Another thing is that the board you create isn't that good: typically is Baronne, Chixiao and maybe Blackout. Well, again, an Imperm on Baronne and your omni-negate is gone... I feel like is very easy to stop Swordsoul from make their combo and to playing it going 2nd. There are lot of better stuff that isn't meta, like PUNK with Kashtira engine that's really fun
@@umbertoferraris5787that's an average way of playing swordsoul. Swordsoul can do more then that. Like ending on chixiao qixing berserker blackout pass. Most players dont know swordsoul beyond the basic combos. They're are ways to play through imperm also They're are other ways to play the deck too. Most don't try tho.
@@zekiel2533 as someone who has basically mastered the intricacies and lines within the deck I will say that this deck honestly not worth playing anymore the thing about this deck is that it has been powercrept to hell a player must understand whennits time to drop a deck, why play swso when there's like 10 other decks that do what it does but better, it's best attribute was that it was good going 1st and arguably better going second now there's more decks like that but better
Best yugituber, great explanations and commentary play-by-plays. Thank you for the help you and your community has provided, creating the MD meta site (along with various other things). Saves me a ton, every-time I needed to get clued in on something (the attention to detail is fantastic and looks beautifully professional). Keep doing what you’re doing and love!
SS is great for new players bc it teaches you pretty much every mechanic in the game and applications of said mechanics, while being really easy and straightforward to pick up and learn, competitively viable, cheap to make, future proof, and its genuinely really fun
I’ve had this deck since release and recently started playing master duel again. Watching this video shows I clearly did not spend enough time with the deck to learn its ins and outs
Swordsoul builds for ladder should honestly be optimized for going second. Deck has way more options for board breaking and OTKs than for turn 1 setups. For tourneys you're still probably fine going first just because of all the people on coinflip decks there.
Ive been playing SS IRL for the past year and all these strats, interactions as well as explanations are great. Ive actually found that using the strat against Unchained actually stops alot of decks. What i mean hy that is. Ise Book of Moon and Eclipse. Yes eclipse gives ur opp cards but in the end if ur able to play around their cards and win its viable. Not only that but im using Borreload Savage with White Woman and it helps tremendously when im aboe to do the card combo. Especially when im up against Dogmatika.
Another thing I don't see myself going into Yazi or Chaofeng a lot. I play 10 duel one time with them and out of those 10 I had iirc 2 or 3 duels and I'm like these are wasted slots. And hardly anyone is using Nib everyone is using Kaijus, Golem or Santa.
I have been playing swordsoul here and there since it came out in md, from destiny fusion + vanity's emptiness, to massive combos with halq into auroradon, to dimensional fissure to counter tears, swordsoul always seems playable. In the current meta yeah it has outs to some of the other decks. But one big issue I have been having recently is that swordsoul absolutely sucks against mikanko. Whether it's lava golem, or just tributing over the 10* synchro and then leaving the 8* Chixiao with nothing to target on the field. Sometimes you know for sure it is versus mikanko cos they let you start first, but you don't have any solid play to stop them from OTKing you.
I feel like swordsoul is honestly one of the most well designed archetypes in the game's history. It is very powerful, strong enough to have stuck around for like 2 years in the tcg now, but its not unfair (you could argue that protoss was unfair, but protoss has been banned, at least in the tcg, for ages now), and that is pretty rare in yugioh, also look at the fact that no swordsoul cards were ever hit on the banlist, support cards dont count obviously. Again, how many top tier decks can say that they have never had any of their core archetype cards hit on the banlist, basically none. Now i know that a lot of the criticism of the deck revolves around "Swordsoul is boring" or something like that, and yeah, Chixiao+Baronne pass is hella boring, but that is barely scratching the surface of what the deck is capable of, the deck has so many different lines of play, that if you are good enough, you are able to play your way out of almost anything with swordsoul, the ceiling on this deck is actually crazy.
Yeah the fact you can summon synchro summon alone is already good enough especially when you can summon link ones relatively easy especially xyz summons
Man I had the most op swordsoul turbo vfd deck master duel had ever seen. You could summon vfd by punk engine into halq into auroradon and then finish with a 3 monster swordsoul board plus protos in some lucky cases. Masterduel hit this deck hard. The board was literally unbreakable.
still personally the best deck ever made. Not in terms of power but balance and fun. Nothing cheesy or annoying just a good deck with a simple play style but plenty of quirks to make it interesting
@Dkayed Well Sordsoul is kind of broken in the sence that you need atleast 3 negates to stop their comboing. In older formats that was possible, but in modern yugioh that's not viable, as it will mean you brick too much. This doesn't make Swordsoul unbeatanle, but it means you have to handle them differently then any other deck. Instead of countering/negating their turn 1, It's more about outing their field. Yhe weakness of Swordsoul is their field is never all that strong(generally if you have a hand good enough to bait baron, and then still have plays afterwards, you'll beat swordsoul easily).
The worst thing about maining swordsoul is that you spend most of your games watching the other guy do endless turns regardless of whether you win or lose. The best thing about going up against swordsoul is that they have relatively quick combos regardless of whether they win or lose.
its always funny how diffrent tournament and ladder is. purrely is a great example. i see people going for attack damage line. my deck focuses primarily on noir and gaining materials for it. clear oponnents field, have a fat unaffected noir and they will surrender 9/10 times. theres delicious if you need more atk but i dont think i had to reduce their life points to win in the last like 30 duels 😂
best thing about this deck is that it is almost free because you get a whole starter deck around ss so you dont have to spend gems on mo ye or the synchros
Honestly love the deck. Dont know why i just do, Maybe because of the designs and effects? I just love the deck, and its honestly been the only deck I've been playing ever since it got released into MD.
Someone must have seen Dkayed doing this live, because that person did the Chaofeng Light block to me earlier today using Swordsoul, but for some reason that person didn't bring Protos. Sadly, I wasn't playing neither Light or Dark monsters, but that was like "hey! I saw Dkayed do that too!"
I'm a DM player and I love playing against swordsoul so much, I decided to build the swordsoul deck. Hated people complaining about swordsoul, it's a very good deck.
I was messing around and found an unlikely deck- Swordsoul Stardust Dragon! If you summon mo-ye, reveal wyrm, summon token, use Stardust synchron to banish token, then voilà! You have access to both Stardust and Swordsoul plays.
The card is only unfair in a bo3 format where you can summon it on the first turn and call your opponent’s key attribute without giving them a chance to stop you. In Master Duel the most you can do going first is call dark or commit based on a read
Swordsoul is a deck I kind hated it when it dropped because everyone using then I started to play it and is one the best modern high tier decks because you don't summon a million times to make your board.
When I first got into MD about a year or so ago, I played Swordsoul for a while. Wasn’t familiar with card rarities or how most of the game worked at that point, and was irresponsible with my materials etc. Crafted 3 Mo-Ye’s and two of them were royals, then I got bored and scrapped the whole deck to make something else. Biggest regret in MD was scrapping those Mo-Ye’s :( now that I have a good understanding of the game I can’t believe I made such a massive mistake
Always remember not to destroy high tier decks unless you really don't wanna play it. For me I don't play SS that much since I love spright more but SS is still intact in my decks and I'm a f2p player. So no need to dismantle decks for future deck building just save gems and wait for events for additional pulls.
Play blind second till support drops to play with scareclaw even the Kashtira cards that about to drop go well with scareclaw. I also hit Master 5 with blind 2nd scareclaw.
My favourite deck centered around my favourite summoning mechanic. My only disappointment with Swordsoul is they never received any "real" support besides Qixing Longyuan.
Bruh they need supports like other decks have just look at the usual end board that SS have it's either GM, Barrone, and blackout/protoss or GM, qixing and protoss/blackout. See it's not even good againts other end board like dlink, spright, and branded also remember that SS bricks a lot when Moye is negated.

They banish themselves for effects, as long as a non-effect monster (usually monk or a token) is on your field. The plan is usually open by special summoning it and linking into monk, which enables the effects.

Wouldn’t it be good to run about 2 Red Woman if you are playing Swordsoul in this Meta? It would work really great against Purrely and others while you are going 2nd.
@Dkayed Hi I have a quick question for you: Can Blackwing Jetstream the blue sky protect Blackwing Full Armor Master from being destroyed by battle one time only?
Yeah, I have the same question. Although I just started playing this game almost a month ago, I spent quite some time on both the Swordsoul and Purrely decks. Seeing the first Purrely player have 9 materials and didn't even use 1 until Dkayed summoned End Punisher got me frustated, I would use all the mats to spin every card Dkayed put on his field at that moment, or at least for the tokens.
I mean any competent purrely player will just spin back your tokens then your screwed. You just got lucky the first guy I guess didn’t know what you were doing.
Cap. Anyone who's watching this video, do not listen in regards to the first matchup. Don't believe me, check game one and answer this question; what turn is Sword soul starting their play on?
No matter what the line is, we always end up with Mo Ye, the video does show some flexibility here and there, so that’s not bad, I just wish the deck had a different opening play.
Love ur vids keep it up but u gotta tell us what turn I on I lowkey was confused also swordsoul can’t really win against purely that first game that purely player played horrible all he had to do is spin Back tokens and he would of won

Moye and Iris, my beloved cards
This is very well explained thank you
The lvl 10 icejade synchro could also be a great addition to the deck.
its just not as good as sinister or baronne, this deck doesn't make enough lvl 10 synchros per turn for this to work
@@nopeno-s5rmight be decent when ariseheart comes since she can prevent banishing
does this deck work against the new kashtira support also, i mean can swordsoul beat kashtira with new support cards ?
Well since diabolsis is out SS can pretty much win if not brick or main decking kurikara and nib, draw the out yup.
That was so much info 🤯
Swordsoul is great deck to play with a good spell, trap disable board
@Dkayed Hi I have a quick question for you: Can Blackwing Jetstream the blue sky protect Blackwing Full Armor Master from being destroyed by battle one time only?
Never mind. I have my answer.
Ok why did the first 2 Purrely players not return the Tokens? Why would they spin back the non-tuners?
Yeah, I have the same question. Although I just started playing this game almost a month ago, I spent quite some time on both the Swordsoul and Purrely decks. Seeing the first Purrely player have 9 materials and didn't even use 1 until Dkayed summoned End Punisher got me frustated, I would use all the mats to spin every card Dkayed put on his field at that moment, or at least for the tokens.
Change title to how to make your opponent lose because he fell asleep to the same combo
Mikanko: let Me introduce myself.
FINALLY YOU TALK ABOUT SWORDSOUL
I mean any competent purrely player will just spin back your tokens then your screwed. You just got lucky the first guy I guess didn’t know what you were doing.
"Why you should play Swordsoul, reason 1:
Your IQ is in the double digits"
Deep down i know SS is Dkayed's favourite deck in MD for a while now
Damn dude you are good. Thanks for the tips.
9:49 why didnt the blackout destroy one of his monster? it should be one of his the 2 from the opponent right?
He chose to destroy Protos, but Protos can’t be destroyed by card effects, so nothing happens to it
Cap. Anyone who's watching this video, do not listen in regards to the first matchup. Don't believe me, check game one and answer this question; what turn is Sword soul starting their play on?
I love you Dkayed but Sword soul has ran it's course, it's not tournament material any more.
really good idea for a new series
you should def play swordsoul
Did you explain dragite
Is swordsoul good in this meta
I play 2 Auspice cause i get to banish 3 cards XD also i can use it to tribute nibiru token
Why is turn 2 and 3 skipped wtf ?1:04
Mo Ye one card combo + protos, I just wish we had different lines for the deck
Yeah fuckboi albaz already get so many why not put some to SS instead. And both of them have connection in storyline
No matter what the line is, we always end up with Mo Ye, the video does show some flexibility here and there, so that’s not bad, I just wish the deck had a different opening play.
SwoSwo rocks! Great vid!
12:15 are you really sgowing a replay where your opponent negates ashuna on field?
Love ur vids keep it up but u gotta tell us what turn I on I lowkey was confused also swordsoul can’t really win against purely that first game that purely player played horrible all he had to do is spin Back tokens and he would of won
Sorry make me rephrase this play against somebody with actual brain cells purrely Diffff
I honestly don't like pot of desires, so I would use kashtira for those lol
My favourite deck in master duel!
