DoA is misremembering waterbending being outlawed in the north. In the cartoon the women are forbidden to waterbend but allowed to be healers just like in the netflix show.
healing is also waterbending. You could say that in the north, men are offensive, women are defensive. Or in human war/survival terms, suffering male causalities is only half as bad as suffering female causalities as the latter are needed for children.
monte has to watch avatar the way of water but do make sure you rewatch the first one as the second hilariously undermines the first. in all seriousness i hope monte watches the animated series all the way through at some point either by himself or with his kids in the future. zuko is an incredible character.
Monte who feels too old to watch the animated version, would you ever show the animated version to your kids in the future? Even though it’s old now, and will be even older when your kids will appreciate it, it’s been so appreciated for so long.
Omg, I would pay big money just to have a costream of monte watching ATLA for the first time, or having a recurring Nerd Legion episode of him going over the episodes he's watched... All the things he's saying he loves about the Live Action, are done just as well, if not better in the animated
Please do a series where you watch the original Avatar: The Last Airbender! You could do a format where you do a Nerd Legion for each episode as you progress through the show step by step! I'd absolutely love to watch that and get your impressions. Both DoAs on a re-view and Monte to get his first reaction on it.
Really interesting to see how favorable Monte is of the show since he doesn't have the baggage of the movie pissing on his childhood and having similar bending that feels off. The animated series was so strong the flaws of a remake are distractedly glaring
The writing in this show gives you no sense of adventure or mystery the cartoon did so wonderfully. There is no mystery or nuance in the live action. It tells us how the characters feel rather then show us. The action was great but great action can't replace a wonderful story and mystery from the original
I would love a season by season (or whole show at once) review of the animated atla show. Because it is incredible and perfectly showcases why live action isn't always the ultimate goal. There is so much attention to detail in every frame of the show. Which is exactly why I didn't keep my hopes up for this series, did not expect anything close to as good as the animated show but I was pleasantly surprised by most of it (despite the original being far superior).
Monte: the first few episodes didn’t have enough exposition Also Monte: Katara in the first few episodes just tried as quickly as possible to tell us things we need to know so we can get to the next shot
just wanted to give you guys a quick shout out , my gf doesnt give 2 shits about league but these podcasts gets her to listen in to you guys who i have been listening to for 10+ years lol , so its been fun i appreciate you guys and these side channels , keep it up!
I think this show needed to be 10 episodes. It has the same problem as One Piece because of Netflix forcing these shows to be limited to 8 episode seasons. Every season will have these episodes that just get too crammed full of stuff that would be better if they could be fleshed out.
I kinda want monte and doa to watch the animated avatar series now. So after watching season 1 of netflix, watch book 1 of the anime. After season 2 of netflix watch book 2 of the anime and so on. You gonna be shocked how bad the show is.
Zuko and Azula were totally miscast, those two casters absolutely dragged every scene down they were in for me, which is a shame because Zuko was my favorite character in the anime show, did not like the actor portrayed at all, especially Azula.
Azula in the animated just conveys more with her tone, body language etc. The live action Azula just says nasty things and that's all. The cast are all kids/newbies so i don't want to criticize them. But if Netflix wanted this to be a hit, they should've had a better cast.
11:40 "geared to younger audience"? but the show runner said they want it to appeal to game of thrones fans that's why they burn those people. 20:32 is azula a secret child because those rebels don't know her. 37:46 that scene isn't really effective because before that scene no character development from zuko and iroh, it feels unearned. if they put it back in season 2 it would've veen more effective. 1:11:00 that doesn't make sense immediately because the women are medic and there's a reason why medics don't fight in the frontline. what are they going to do if all the medics are killed? i wish they stick to game of thrones idea and sacrificed momo to the moon and saved yue.😏
The audience for the show is not for kids, the people who are fans of avatar are in there late 20's early 30s. They explained everything in this show like we were kids. Even the cartoon treated us with more respect and actually made us think for are selfs.
I thought this show was solid. Not perfect, not great. Some of the casting wasn't great, but some if the cast was. Zuko and Iroh, i thought were stand outs. It is so surprising how much hate this show is getting, its undeserved. It wasnt a great show, but a good enough adaptation. I think alot of the fans have been trained to hate Avatar live action. But this isnt that.
Doa if you liked the live action of one piece PLEASE watch the anime or read the manga it is MUCH BETTER and more in-depth id compare avatar to one piece as well in the depth of world building and character development but one piece is on a much bigger scale
I'm really surprised you guys liked it. I thought most of the acting was awful, they butchered Iroh and Aang. Aang in this show is just this preachy, boring 37-year-old lesbian soft ball coach. He talks and acts NOTHING like a child.
Interesting. Aang was just more serious I thought. Also holy crap Iroh was awesome in this show. Incredible casting for Iroh. I had so much fun watching this despite the issues. Different strokes I guess.
lol. surprised you liked it, it wasnt bad but it was not good either. aang actor was far more worse than katara in my opinion, both were bad and made it hard for me to enjoy the show.

The only adults they casted for the main cast of the cartoon was azula and zuko everyone else was a child voice actor that did amazing.
Please do a series where you watch the original Avatar: The Last Airbender! You could do a format where you do a Nerd Legion for each episode as you progress through the show step by step!

This feels like good setup for a runback nerd legion for each of the animated show books. I want to see how it holds up to Monte
I liked basically everything about the live action except the dialogue. Stopping every five seconds for a heartfelt speech got really grating.
Really interesting to see how favorable Monte is of the show since he doesn't have the baggage of the movie pissing on his childhood and having similar bending that feels off. The animated series was so strong the flaws of a remake are distractedly glaring

My only memory of Shyamalan’s movie: *mouth trumpet* IYKYK
In the animation Azula has different face shape, the actress in the show has cute round face XD
I hope Shogun on FX is on the review docket.
Shogun is too good of a show for here
It has been amazing! I have high hopes for it.
shogun is incredible, the pacing is perfect so far. i imagine monte is watching it or is planning on watching it, it is probably right up his alley.
I now need an episode on Cameron’s Avatar 1&2 and one on Dune 1984
Monte: the first few episodes didn’t have enough exposition
Also Monte: Katara in the first few episodes just tried as quickly as possible to tell us things we need to know so we can get to the next shot
What I have learned from watching this show is that DOA is genuinely one of the most forgiving and kind people.
Monte kept saying how the Fire Nation did nothing wrong for over an hour kinda shook me.
He never once said anything of the sort. He said that the scenes with Zuko were good because of Dallas acting.
@@TheDopoqobit's a meme

Monte needs to see community.
instead of the blue avatar, i'd rather have monte watch the original. Oh and the original is only 3 seasons of 20minutes.
The Iroh episode was even more tragic, this was the last thing the original iroh voice actor makoto iwamatsu did before he died of cancer
I think this show needed to be 10 episodes. It has the same problem as One Piece because of Netflix forcing these shows to be limited to 8 episode seasons. Every season will have these episodes that just get too crammed full of stuff that would be better if they could be fleshed out.
I’ve been waiting on this one!

Way of water way of water way of water way of water chant ritual. Boom boom cha. Noooo where is my Spice???
instead of making Monte go through the James Cameron Avatar 2, he should instead be made to watch the James Cameron Alita: Battle Angel
at this point, we need a meme of "making Monte go through trash"
8:43 ??? This is the most exposition heavy show ive ever seen
If you thought the first blue people avatar wasn’t good, the way of water is bad your not missing out
Please review shogun!
Zuko and Azula were totally miscast, those two casters absolutely dragged every scene down they were in for me, which is a shame because Zuko was my favorite character in the anime show, did not like the actor portrayed at all, especially Azula.
Naw the actor that played Zuko crushed it

I had to click away after watching 30 minutes of this show... its sad how the butchered it with awful scripting and diabolical dialogue
The second episode is much better (still not great) I haven't past that yet
"diabolical dialogue" lol I like that
Shogun for the future
Do Shogun
Watch Silo!
i thought it was better then the anime

Katara was really bad and mostly pointless. They stript her feminine rage and gave her literally nothing
viva la last free nation

Lesbian softball coach 😂

YAS WELCOME BACK
Way of water😂😅

You’re not boomers you’re Gen X 🤣
Tbe casting might be the worst part minus Sokka. I love you DOA but you're too nice.
I found the main cast, casting to be alright overall with yeah Sokka being amazingly well cast
