1998 model year with the VIN for the win: 1GC for US made Chevrolet truck, E for 6,001 to 7,000 # GVWR with hydraulic brakes, K for 4WD conventional chassis, 1 for 1/2 ton rated, 9 for extended cab, R for 5.7L (350 CID) V8 with CPI, 4 is a check digit, W for the 1998 model year, E for Pontiac, MI assembly, and the rest is the production sequence. The Pontiac MI plant operated from about 1909 to 2009.
We got the SPID, glad you did: L31 for 5.7L (350 CID) V8 with CPI, GU6 for 3.42:1 rear axle, GMC for GMC Truck and Bus Assembly, Pontiac, MI, VK3 for front license plate bracket, M30 for 4L60E four speed automatic overdrive transmission, K34 for cruise control, N33 for tilt wheel, among other codes.
Paint is (originally) code 35U/WA304D Laguna Green exterior paint.

The black box on the left is the ABS unit and the one on the right is the ECM. I have a 98, I hate the 3rd door. The side leaks.
