I was born and raised in Germany. I did my required hours of driving school and driving exam in Germany. I've lived in Florida for 40 years and I never got used to the way people drive here. It's insane! Basically anything goes. After a hurricane we had a road closed due to some minor damage and literally EVERYOENE went around the sign and just took that road. Mike be proud of your German accent. I try to pronounce my words as best as I can but I still have an accent. Americans don't care. They're always nice about it. Enjoy Florida!
I’ve been living in Germany 27 years and I still have a Scottish accent but the Germans don’t care either. They actually like it. Hayley has a fantastic pronunciation I think.
I believe Mike's "free refill" culture shock is part of a different "dining policies" cluster in US. I spent a couple of years regularly on business in US. What always bugged me about dining was the unwritten eat and leave policy, essentially once you had your last bite the waiter will nicely ask "anything else?" and bring the bill, if you say no. I like the German option of being able to meet someone, an old friend, a new acquaintance, colleagues or whomever for dinner and then potentially chat away till the end of the night. But here is the thing of why this "kick-out" policy kind of made sense to me. If the owner of the place makes his money mainly from meals and less from drinks, he optimizes his revenue by increasing the table turnover rate. But he doesn't have a direct handle on the turnover, but the waiters do, so the owner doesn't pay the waiters a decent salary and all of a sudden the waiters depend on tips i.e. on the number of parties he or she squeezes tru per shift. So the owner seems to be the good guy in the story, last not least he offers free drinks, but my "socialist" German heart is bleeding, he is exploiting the waiters, leaving it to his customers make up for it. The waiters are screwed. The customers are taken away the opportunity to show their appreciation for great service by tipping appropriately and enjoy the full evening without being kick out of a place, but at least they got free drinks.

Haley and Mike you should some time travel west and experience this side of country and culture. Az is very diverse in climate..love you guys! ☀️🌲🏜️🍁
Hi Hayley can you show us a little more about your life in Florida outside. I would really love this. Your bedroom is beautiful but not as interesting as Florida! 🥰🙏 .
I will do some vlogs...My "outside" life has been a little boring lately because I have been so busy with school but I get a break in a couple of weeks and can finally focus on that
It’s been awhile since this but for mike: 12 inches/1 foot is usually the width/length of a standard floor tile In a retail establishment so if your shoe length is a bit longer or shorter (depending on the size of the shoe) then the tile will most likely be of the 12in/1ft variety. Once u establish this visually you will instantly recognize this wherever you go and happen upon them
The red arrow light is like the "Grüner Pfeil" adopted for germany from eastern germany: The traffic light shows red but You can turn right if the traffic allows it. BUT, you have to stop first and look! It's no you can drive if the traffic light shows red! It's like a Stop-Sign!
I would have totally stopped at the red arrow…- hey it’s RED!!! And I totally hate those four stop signs….. I would also go for roundabout or rechts vor links …….
Mike being very German in that he finds a thousand words to describe in minute detail the tiniest of shocklings -- and when it comes to the fact you stumble over gators all day if you don't watch where your feet go he's like: Oh, now that you mention it... **shrugs it off** 😁
@@HayleyAlexis Yeah, it was what the park guides told us and what I've seen, thank God 🙃. Been over there in '99 for two weeks, not long enough to get used to stumbling over them. 😅
I felt lost too with deet& inches when passing the drivers license there- you need to built some " Eselsbrücken" to visualize distances. From.a German from Munich
One of the most common culture shocks I go through every time when visiting the US as a German is to fill up the car at a gas station. Renting a car you don't know it's average fuel consumption and also don't know the size of the tank. So as soon as you are running low on gas thus driving to a gas station it's always a guessing game about how much fuel you need to refill it up completely. So first difference is that you have to prepay before filling up. However you soon notice that using international credit cards often don't work at the pump using the normal "PIN" you would use for withdrawal as well as that some gas station don't accept specific card brands like AMEX at all, so just swiping your card at the pump is mostly not an option and you have to go inside the shop for prepayment. And after filling up you have to go inside once more to get a reimbursement of the too high prepay....
Nice funny video! I think those arrows on the traffic lights of the intersection Mike speaks about are to prevent people going the wrong way on the interstate. I bet it happened to often that they had to put the arrow on the lights to prevent accidents. As for the pills situation: Till Lindemans song "Skills In Pills" is inspired by USA.
I live in DC. Most of us stop at the red right arrows and we do not go until the arrows turn green. Many times there’s also a sign that says you cannot turn right when there are red arrows.
The Story about Mikes Accent is so funny :D I can tell he has one, even if he does not like to hear it. I do not deny my own Accent, im from franconia and like to say "i sound like a Fass Sauerkraut" :D and i think it is even stronger then Mikes but i get along :) Thank you for your Videos, i love them :)
Mike is right about the right away. It's always the person to the right of you, if they get there before you. If you both get to the stop sign, and you're turning left ir right the other person going straight ahead has the right away. Yeah ...gets complicated 😅
Mike has a very strong bavarian german accent 😂. Love it!! They have free refills because it is a full glass of ice with a bit of whatever. Especially when it’s crushes ice, the soda after 5 minutes is so watered down. For me “No ice” or only two cubes, please 😉. Tschüss, bis bald und habt eine lustige Woche. Oh yes, first Thanksgiving for Mike living here. Enjoy.
You're SOOO was von funny together 😂. Honestly, Hayley, your lonesome videos were getting a little fad 🤭 I'm joking, you and Mike really complement each other ❤ Love it ❤ Bussi from Austria
Canadian 🇨🇦 here: I had never seen a red traffic light arrow, where you're allowed to turn!😮 I would have stopped too! Here, we also watch A LOT of American TV channels, but I never get used to the enormous amount of medicine commercials, which is not allowed on Canadian TV channels. Unfortunately, Americans treat health care as a business (a very lucrative business). To me, it makes no sense to "ask your doctor" for medication! 😮😮😮 The doctor is the one who should tell you what medication is the best for you, not the other way around! 🤣🤣🤣
@@HayleyAlexis Just to clarify, here in Canada, we can turn right on a red light, as long it's safe to do so (unless there's a sign prohibiting it), but I had never seen a red arrow, that's why I said I would have stopped too. 😊
Yeah i hate it when i have to pay for TV channels and i still get huge ammounts of adds and i live in Sweden. I do have analog TV too thats free kinda but try watching it on a 55'' 4K TV it looks so bad.
"And _Mike_ had the audacity to say, 'What accent?'" 😆No one thinks they have an accent. I mean, the _Scottish_ accent is quite distinctive, according to _everyone_ but the Scotts. _They_ will tell you they are the _only_ people in the world who speak normally.
Oh hell, Mike is staying here for good. He's getting his license here! WELCOME!! I enjoy round abouts. But people just don't understand them. Whoever is in the round about has the right of way. You just can't enter a round about willy-nilly! Mike is correct about the 4 way stop. Whoever is to the right goes 1st. Ahh, Mike you DO have an accent!! And a very strong one!! 😅😅. Thats ok, I live in NC and have lived here over 30 yrs and people still pick up on my NY accent 😂😂
Free refill gibt es hier aber auch, zum Beispiel bei KFC, Subway, Five Guys. Außerdem gibt es auch Fernsehsender die keine Werbung haben die man empfangen kann wenn man für Kabelfernsehen zahlt.
The red arrow light means you are NOT allowed to drive on red! That's what the green arrow light is for. We have those in Canada also but on the traffic light there is also a sign not to turn on red. Many people still do.
You are wrong. In the state of FLORIDA unless there is a sign that clearly states NO TURN ON RED then you can use both red arrow lanes to turn on red. Most of our red arrowed lanes do not have signs that state NO TURN ON RED. It is legal and it is allowed in the state of Florida- where I am living, where this video was filmed, and where I am driving. Not Canada.
I have spent like over 6k euros in my driving lisence till now here in Germany and still havent got it yet,,,,.its really frustrating, in my last driving test they failed me after 45 minutes of driving without any mistake but coz of just one mistake in last 5. Minutes we were on the way back to Tüv.
I don't hear Mike's accent, but I've lived with a Swiss that speaks German for 9 years. The big difference between Mike and my husband is Mike is more soft-spoken and mumbles some (sorry, Mike. I'm being honest. Your English is very good). My husband is loud and makes sure he enunciates his words. My friends tell me my husband sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger 😂. Once in a while, I hear the German in him (our daughter has a fever, so he says she has hot, not she is hot).
Comments that occur to me: - Mike does not entirely sound like Arnold S. He isn't an Austrian, after all. But if Mike says "I'll be back" I just might believe the Terminator is near. - "Bei Riesigen Nebenwirkungen, fressen Sie die Packungsbeilage und erschlagen Sie ihren Arzt oder Apotheker" and yes, the prude Americans doing adverts on Erectile Dysfunction is really a fun one. - Wildlife in other countries is really often fascinating!
I would interpret a red arrow light as a stop until it turns green. In MN where I live now, the red arrows are interpreted that way. Signage and signal in the US can be very confusing. The European style roundabouts are supposed to be safer, but the older traffic circles in the US were very unsafe.
People in Florida cannot drive and do not care. Passing in the emergency lane or on/off ramps, most aggressive car goes at a 4 way stop, clockwise in a roundabout, motorcyclists lane splitting... pretty much anything goes! 🥴 Stay safe out there!
As a German who speaks like Mike I laughed so hard about the fact that he doesn't think he has an accent 😂

I’m in Prescott Arizona and we have Deer elk wild horses big horn sheep mountain lions coyotes bobcats javelina bear eagles hawks snakes lizards omg the list goes on.. even wolves and jaguars are trying to make a comeback and have been spotted. We live together with the animals ❤ There also has to be much wildlife in Germany but why don’t we see it so much? Haley and Mike you should some time travel west and experience this side of country and culture. Az is very diverse in climate..love you guys! ☀️🌲🏜️🍁
Hi Hayley can you show us a little more about your life in Florida outside.
I would really love this. Your bedroom is beautiful but not as interesting as Florida! 🥰🙏
.
Once u establish this visually you will instantly recognize this wherever you go and happen upon them
I bin 40 years in USA 🇺🇸 i still have an accent. But they never guess I am German
As for the refill situation: I hate it when they try and take away my almost but not quite empty glass! Hey, I was SAVING this last sip!!!
Mike: I don't have an accent....also Mike: I have sky Beziehungsweise wow tv und Angebot XD
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Mike being very German in that he finds a thousand words to describe in minute detail the tiniest of shocklings -- and when it comes to the fact you stumble over gators all day if you don't watch where your feet go he's like: Oh, now that you mention it... **shrugs it off** 😁
He has become accustomed to them. I think once you realize that they are just swamp puppies they aren’t cool anymore. They are actually quite boring.
Hayley allows us to experience Bavarian wildlife in Florida 😂
They missed the pelicans. My favorite bird there.
Hilarious comeback, what do you even say to that as the server 😂 what accent, i can't
I live in DC. Most of us stop at the red right arrows and we do not go until the arrows turn green. Many times there’s also a sign that says you cannot turn right when there are red arrows.
I love your videos 💖 I’d love to see you guys possibly make one in all German 😊💖
The Story about Mikes Accent is so funny :D
I can tell he has one, even if he does not like to hear it.
I do not deny my own Accent, im from franconia and like to say "i sound like a Fass Sauerkraut" :D and i think it is even stronger then Mikes but i get along :)
Thank you for your Videos, i love them :)
Fact: Everyone has an accent. There are accents that are considered "the norm", but they are accents nonetheless.
Enjoy.
You can ask for no ice in the USA. The servers actually don’t care 😆
You're SOOO was von funny together 😂.
Honestly, Hayley, your lonesome videos were getting a little fad 🤭 I'm joking, you and Mike really complement each other ❤ Love it ❤ Bussi from Austria
As far as I’m concerned this is mikes channel now 😂 sorry Hayley.
great video guys 😊
Canadian 🇨🇦 here: I had never seen a red traffic light arrow, where you're allowed to turn!😮
I would have stopped too!
The doctor is the one who should tell you what medication is the best for you, not the other way around! 🤣🤣🤣
A lot of people don’t know that you can do that in Florida 🙃
@@HayleyAlexis Just to clarify, here in Canada, we can turn right on a red light, as long it's safe to do so (unless there's a sign prohibiting it), but I had never seen a red arrow, that's why I said I would have stopped too. 😊
We have 4 way stop signs in my country 🇧🇼
I agree with him about the traffic. A roundabout is much better. Same with green arrow to the right. A red arrow says that it is forbidden to drive.
Ein fürwahr sehr nettes Video.
Yeah i hate it when i have to pay for TV channels and i still get huge ammounts of adds and i live in Sweden. I do have analog TV too thats free kinda but try watching it on a 55'' 4K TV it looks so bad.
So memo to myself: People in America don't care about circles. Ergo: Roundabouts are not an option
In Germany people are able to do parallel parking, even uphill backwards. Try making an American do that to get their driving license.
Denglish at it‘s best. Love it particulary the outro 👍
My car is coming up to 298000km for the next service. Australia. From then on I will consider a new one!
"And _Mike_ had the audacity to say, 'What accent?'"
😆No one thinks they have an accent.
Sorry say it, but dude, you do have an accent 😂😂😂.
Really enjoyed your video. 👍
2:08 - Measuring distances in Subway sandwiches is probably the most American thing ever. What comes next? You're gonna measure volumes in Coke cups?
I had always thought or been told you yielded to the person on the right at a 4 way stop, but that doesn’t make sense to me
I think, Mike has a Bavarian accent. So no accent that he doesn’t have when speaking German. If that makes sense.
it makes a little sense...I understand lol
@@HayleyAlexis I don’t even realize when he switches languages because the accent stays Bavarian. 😊
Not Canada.
Love you guys. So cute together.
Mike sounds if he plays in alo alo 😉
You think Florida has rough cars y’all need to visit SC 😂
The audacity 😂😂
I don't hear Mike's accent, but I've lived with a Swiss that speaks German for 9 years. The big difference between Mike and my husband is Mike is more soft-spoken and mumbles some (sorry, Mike. I'm being honest. Your English is very good). My husband is loud and makes sure he enunciates his words. My friends tell me my husband sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger 😂. Once in a while, I hear the German in him (our daughter has a fever, so he says she has hot, not she is hot).
Mike no accent? Sweet! 😂 France has banned free refills because of obesity
Pfiads eich
It makes sense...I dont remember if I kept in the part of me going on about obesity with coke but it is SO BAD for you!!
1. “What accent?” Bahahahahah
2. if there is a red arrow that means you can NOT turn right on red even after a full stop.
There are but there will be a sign accompanying it saying you have to stop ☺️
What I would like to know is if Mike is homesick yet and what German things he can buy to help if he does.
OMG Hailey, I fell in love with your beautiful Ohrringe. Could you please, please let me know, where you got them from? 🙏😊🙏
Oh they are very old H&M earrings that cost about 0.50€ 😆
OK. Naechstes Video auf deutsch. Bin schon gespannt darauf!
Comments that occur to me:
- Mike does not entirely sound like Arnold S.
That’s what I keep trying to tell Mike because he thinks I’m complaining about him and his driving but I’m just aware of how shitty drivers are here
he even has a dialekt in german. XD
