He's a CROOK. He teamed up with a charlatan named Frank Reynolds to found a company called "In Vivo Therapeutics" to advance a polymer device for spinal cord injury. Reynolds used investor money from In Vivo as his own private "piggy bank". He used company funds for limousine service, Broadway shows and strip clubs. Langer was on the scientific advisory committe of this company and did NOTHING to stop him until the rest of the board stepped in and ousted Reynolds. Then Langer helped Reynolds to found another sham company (PixarBio) for a pain release device. Ultimately Reynolds was convicted of securities fraud and sentenced to 7 years in prison. (he died in prison in January 2022). Reynolds was told to pay back all the investors $7.5 million he swindled and it's doubtful anyone will get anything back. Langer helped Reynolds with a very slick promotional video (look up "Frank's Story PixarBio on TH-cam) and Langer is front and center in many of the promotions for this company. Ultimately Langer just "washed his hands" of this whole thing without a thought to many of us who trusted him. I don't care if he wins a "Nobel Prize" for anything else he does---his association with this fiasco has tainted my view of him forever. And Langer's "wonderful" polymer scaffold for spinal cord injury recently failed miserably in studies---I'm sad for the patients--but couldn't care less about him and his "prestige"
