      @bitrudder3792 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

I remember going on a “Walmart diet“ as a young married woman. I was just buying random junk to decorate my house with! 😂
Now pushing our 40th anniversary in 2025, I find that there is very little to purchase, and that I have re-purposed so many things from Low end to high end, and I’ve been very intentional about replacing things that break over time (glassware That now features “thumbprint indentations, in anticipation of being elderly with weaker hands, plus they’re cool, plates that were purposely bought in white, because I could always buy more white plates that looked close enough to them. canisters from the Container Store first held the usual, baking ingredients and beans and rice, etc. Then they went to store Velcro rollers, hanger, clips, cotton balls, make up sponges, And now they hold baking soda, Epsom salt, Bentonite clay, 20 mule team borax and the like. I think they’re 20 years old now and they still look great.)
Having consistent, yet updatable, themes in your decor makes it pretty easy.
I have moved Elfa shelving from place to place, it’s amazing for keeping Junk off of the floor. At this house, I gradually did the garage walls, one sale at a time. Filled them with inexpensive bins wherever I could store things in a bin and that looks fantastic. (I live in an area where you really can’t store much in the garage, which makes it more cost-effective!)
30 year old,- range office furniture and cream and maple was a worthy investment and has stood the test of time. It might be outdated to some, but it just had a wonderful update in my home office. What’s really cool about this is that I’m not bringing anything back into that room that I don’t use, and that is unattractive. I may need to repaint this one for resale, but the espresso, dark brown wall paint makes the wall-mounted monitors disappear when they’re not in use. And it makes big bold black-and-white photography look awesome. I could go on and on about how happy I am with how this room is turning out. Repurposing some IKEA bookshelves as a floating shelf situation that looks integral just above the desk. Keyboards and speakers hide underneath it. Hanging wires, Black, computer towers, printers, and their trolleys, are invisible against the dark backdrop that is visible underneath the desk. We can create beauty with Humble and inexpensive elements!
I really wanted a home office that was both functional and looked absolutely fantastic because it’s one of the first things you see when you walk in the door.
Identify your style as early in life as possible. You will see that you are attracted to similar things in different eras of decor. Figure out what those are and you will have a good guide to carry you through. We will find that similar shapes and lines and proportions can pull together a lot of different items from different time periods. You can mix Wood tones and colors strategically. Simply repeating colors, textures and other design elements in adjoining rooms, pulls them together, and makes them feel like they flow beautifully.
I think that when people learn how to do this, to exercise design skill (which is learnable), they are less inclined to keep searching for more stuff to make their house look better.

I did not know why I always kept everything and did not want to throw anything away. When I grow older, I found out I have attachment issues and I attach to my stuff, it is emotional attachment, and it took me very long trying to change. Believe me you are not alone and I don't know if this is genetic or what it is. But my daughter when she was little didn't even want to throw candy papers away.
She seemed to think they had feelings. Is the only way I know how to explain how she expressed herself when it came to things If I can give things away I could do it all day long. I found a shop that charged a dollar for anything you donated and I could easily donate to them because I knew people that needed them were getting them. It's harder for me to donate places where they put a big price tag on the things I donate What's helped me a lot is knowing my time with God is decreased so much by me moving things around and organizing and moving things around Satan knows our weaknesses and stuff seems to be mine I am right now struggling with getting a bunch of stuff of out of my house that I've got together. I actually have got to pray about it. It's ridiculous. It seems it's just stuff so I understand what you're saying. This all started when my husband left

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!!!! I do this too!!! Sooooo necessary to NOT accumulate so much crap after a few years that we don't use anymore!!!! 🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
Every once in a while (every few months) I grab my toiletries containers and go through them as all to declutter!
Every grocery shopping I 'face' all of my new groceries that I bought. Bringing the old forward and putting the new ones in the back.
I even have a note to myself to choose a small decluttering area each week or every other week to go through super fast to declutter!
I also have a permanent donation box in my car trunk, so ANYTIME I try on a piece of clothing that I no longer like, or come across anything else in my house that I no longer use, I put next to my purse/keys and the next time I leave the house, I put it in the donation box in my trunk. Then every once in a while, when it's convenient, I stop by the goodwill and empty it!!
      🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
This method keeps my house from refilling!!!

If you move from place to place and just pack everything up without decluttering first - all that stuff just moves around with you. I'm 58 years old and around 4 years ago I finally went through the bins and boxes full of my children's old preschool artwork and school papers. I selected out some of their best work to keep and tossed the rest. I still have several bags of greeting cards to sort through - again I'll select out a few special ones to keep for a scrapbook but the rest are getting pitched into the trash. It is insane how much just goes straight to the landfill.

Same. I loved a lot as a kid and in dorms in my college years. I’m a minimalist by default basically now😂 Sometimes I do find myself holding onto something I should’ve let go, but rarely since I use everything to the best of my ability. It feels so much better if you just find something you’ll like forever instead for a season and TOSS THE REST! It’s so stressful trying to use everything you don’t need just bc you have it.

I should’ve just got rid of the boxes back the. As I obviously didn’t NEED anything in them. The only problem with that is what if I donated baby photos or photos of my grandparents no longer with us. Or just sentimental items I go to look for later and can’t find them because I never checked the boxes. Ofciarse checking the boxes makes me want to keep everything in them. I swear I can’t win 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Same when we bought our house.
We focused on getting the house ready and not on decluttering and boy do I regret it now!
Because it wasn’t a priority and hasn’t been one either so stuff just gets pushed around.
I’ve been gathering up items for donate and putting them in my car (as long as heat won’t damage them) to start the process. Anything like beauty products that aren’t being touched are getting tossed.

@@torakfett3351same! I read a few books, one called the “joy of less” helped a lot, ironically I found it while helping a family member declutter, I never thought could be super organized as an ADHD gal, but once one pares down the non-essential and rarely used items, the rest is a breeze! Now I can hardly believe I had so many eyeshadows, brushes, etc…
One nice thing about getting a bit older is that one can go for quality over quantity (I prefer a more simple routine with shades/products I know work best for me) and it makes getting ready every day so much easier.

I have moved several times over the years. Here’s a couple times…when you start packing…as you clean out a cupboard, put painters tape across the door. This will let you know that cupboard is done. That way you not going back and checking it a zillion times. Another tip…after you pack a box and tape it shut, use a sharpie pen and mark the boxes. For example: kitchen/coffee cups, Kitchen/Dinner plates, Kitchen/silverware. By labeling them this way, upon arriving at your new home, you can have a cup of coffee because you know where the cups are. Plus unpacking becomes much easier. Trust just these two tips will make things go smoothly and you will feel like a pro.
