      Think about signing their petition. One monarch, one culture, similar unemployment level, similar living standards and wages, same language, same ways of going about business. Plus i wouldn't mind seeing a few more Aussies and Canadians around.
      Additionally, God save the Queen.

    As a British citizen, the traditions, customs, and overall feel of this video make me feel right at home.. Canada and Great Britain share a union far greater than that of the "Special relationship" with America. Britains true special relationship is with Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Of which all four countries are still bound together equally, in a personal union. Sharing history, culture, democracy, and a head of state. I personally advocate for CANZUK, post Britain's exit from the European Union.

    I am from a republic country I love my country for what it is because that's how what we are . Canadian is so lucky to have monarchy , yes there from the other part of the world and they are not born in Canada but Canada and its people have roots to great Britain. I think you should preserve the monarchy because its your link from the past and reminds you of the dream of your ancestor just like what a wise man said a person who doesn't look back from where he came from will never go to where he want to go.

    Even if Canada wanted to abolish the monarchy it would mean opening the constitution which in itself would be too much of a challenge. They won't open the constitution for the senate why would they even bother with changing from a realm to a republic. God Save the Queen of Canada. If you want an example of how a republic government works look south.

    • @mcaddicts
      @mcaddicts 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yeah that country and it's republic is beyond broken. A partisan head of state who goes against congress to promote hs own agenda. Yet when confronted by over use if executive power pins the blame in the other party not doing their jobs. Obama is not the first and won't be the last. Then you have France who calls the president a Republican monarch. Why fix a system that isn't broken.

      I've often thought that for all the American's bluster of how great it is that they won the War of Independence - you don't need to see into an alternative history to see how it would have worked out, you just need to look north =]
      The monarchy of Canada really is a marvellous institution (although I feel that instead of appointing a Governor-General when the latest one "retires", Prince Charles should be made Prince Regent of Canada for a few years to give him some experience of what it's like being sovereign - being Crown Prince is a lifelong apprenticeship for the job, after all). The Canadian monarchy seems to work even better than the British one (although maybe there's just a lot of apathy for it where I live). it's wonderful to see the Queen so well-received in one of her most important realms.
      I couldn't bear to live in a republic, they're so divisive, expensive and unstable. I've often wondered that if the US had been a constitutional monarchy (under some American monarch, like a descendant of George Washington) would there have been a civil war at all? Would the highly aristocratic South have been so quick to rebel against their country and monarch because of the actions of Prime Minister Lincoln? I'm not so sure they would have.
      If Britain became a republic (and it would tear itself apart in 6 months if it did that - people seriously underestimate the stability the monarchy gives the place) I'd be honoured to become a Canadian citizen - or Australian, or a New Zealander. As a last resort I think I might become Swedish or Norwegian. XD
      As a Briton myself, I find highly peculiar that we've tied ourselves to the EU instead of fostering stronger ties to the Commonwealth, whom we have far greater things in common with. We even have stronger links with Canada and Australia than the US which makes it very odd that the BBC focuses a lot of its air time on American subjects these days.
      We went into the EU to trade and instead found ourselves shackled to bureaucratic tyranny. A Commonwealth of historic ties merged with strong trading and a mutually shared monarch ought to be a potent force to be reckoned with.
      Goodness. I do apologise for rambling on and on like this. It was just meant to be a short post summarised as: "Yeah, I agree with you guys, the Queen is wonderful in all her realms" but it became rather bombastically long-winded. Ahem. ^^;;

    • @mcaddicts
      @mcaddicts 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ireland gained their Republic through war, Austria, Finland and Germany also through the results of war. I doubt a Canadian revolution is about to happen. We have a situation unique to them and that is our Constitution and t fact that if we try to open Quebec will push their own agenda. We have tried opening the Constitution before an both times Quebec stood in the way.

    It's very strange for me to hear "Queen Elisabeth II, Queen of Canada". I suppose she is the Queen of Canada, but I normally hear of her being referred to as the Queen of England.
    I think the connection between Britain and Canada is so much more special than the one between Britain and America. If we had to choose just one I would have to pick Canada.

    What is even the point of getting rid of the Monarchy? EVERYTHING WORKS. The Aussies seem to want to do it more than Canadians but it seems like it would cost a shit ton of money to do, so many laws would have to be reworded to get rid of words like "Crown" etc money and coins would have to be entirely resigned and made by the mint etc.

    The Queen is given at least a 41 Gun Salute on such ceremonies. I heard the commentator say 21. During Trooping The Colour Her Majesty receives a 62 Royal Gun Salute, and with Her Majesty and Prince Philip celebrating together would receive over 100 gun salutes.

    • @ThomasJM
      @ThomasJM 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bethany Johnson it's only a 41 gun salute when it's performed in London. it's a 21 gun salute with an additional 20 guns because it's fired inside of a royal park (Hyde park in London). a 62 gun salute is only if trooping the colours takes place on the Duke of Edinburgh's actual birthday.

Historically, of course, some obvious challenges but in our day and age, I’m very proud to be French Canadian and as well appreciate our laws and our rights and privledges under the Crown. God bless Canada.

    • @alvindurochermtl

      English Canada generally adores Britain and the feeling is also generally mutual. The same cannot be said about France and Quebec.
      Lots of Francophones and the Catholic Church in Quebec were critical of Canada's involvement in both First and Second World Wars.
      They cared little for France's turmoil and the only thing they cared about was the perception that they were Britain's imperial wars.
      They also believed there was an agenda for English Canada to draft French Canadians to thin out the Francophone population.
      The fact that Quebec speaks archaic French and the continental French look down on them for that doesn't help.
      In their own arrogance Quebec has criticized France for allowing too much use of English in France now.
      So they are definitely not brothers as in the case of Britain and English Canada.

    Why are people in canada still using the queen her majesty as a part of the government of canada and in law. Canada act 1982
    2. No Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom passed after
    the Constitution Act, 1982 comes into force shall extend to
    Canada as part of its law.

    • @colbysharma2765
      @colbysharma2765 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That is legally incorrect. While the Canada Act 1982 did indeed repatriate our constitution, and enshrine a charter of rights and freedoms into Canadian law, it did nothing to alter the position that the Queen is the head of state.

    • @alvindurochermtl
      @alvindurochermtl 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      BNA Act 1982 is actually an act of the British Parliament and not of the Canadian Parliament and as such it only made some extensions to but not superseded BNA Act 1867 which defines the Queen Victoria and her successors as the Sovereigns of Canada.

      M Honour Yes, why would you want to live in a land of prosperity, security and stability when you could live in a republic like impoverished Haiti, or war-torn Syria or restless Libya (those are the main trendsetters of modern republics today)!
      The Queen is the guarantor of all your rights and freedoms in Canada. Not the people or the government, both of whom are working as hard as they can to remove them and install a republican dictatorship as fast as possible (as are you, with your treasonous bile).
      The Queen costs very little money in Canada - a minuscule amount compared to Canada's GDP. A permanent president would cost billions to maintain. Look at how much the USA spends on its president and first family in a year (people who have no obligations or duties to their nation and are just passing through) and compare that to the UK and how much it spends in a year on our shared Royal Family.
      The UK pays most of the Queen's living costs, you know, so you're getting an absolute bargain!
