Yeah, we used a heat plate, the lady at TS told us they need it for all six weeks till they are fully feathered but ours are four weeks now and they haven’t been using it so we unplugged it and they’re still doing fine. We had a couple days of heat it was in the 80s, which isn’t normal for April we are in PA, so we took them outside for a bit to help them get used to the outdoors and the noises.
This is an old video but mouth open means they're hot, it's how they cool off but that pool deck box looking crate has no air holes no ventilation. They have feathers should of put them in a large dog crate by then.
My Orpington chicks must be older than I calculate them to be. They look like these chicks at 5 weeks old, but going by the date I got them, they should only be about 3 weeks old.

Dang looking forward to seeing the eggs!
i click my tongue to mimic the mama hen as i feed them treats. eventually they will associate the sound with treats and will come to you anytime.

Ours are about 3 weeks old and very skittish. They aren't easy to get ahold of and will fight to get loose!
win them over with treats like meal worms. after they recognize you they will come running every time
