- Good morning from Vietnam! 🇻🇳 In this first impressions video we share our thoughts about the lively Saigon which has numerous landmarks around the city that hold so much history! The post office - considered to be one of the most beautiful in the entire world! - was our absolute favourite. As usual, we also indulged ourselves into the local food - first things first, we tried the delicious Bahn Mi 🥖 and then (coffee-lover) Karolina tried her first Vietnamese coffee! ☕️ We ended up our tour at the iconic Ben Thanh Market having some more local specialties 😋

nope at all Hanoi is very different in terms of culture or 'vibe'. Anyway, much cleaner and greener, than Saigon.

Những năm về trước thì nạn trộm cướp thì có nhưng bây giờ an ninh rất tốt. Bạn gặp khó khăn bạn cứ nhờ người dân xung quanh bạn họ sẽ giúp đỡ các bạn.. còn về xe cộ ở Việt các bạn là người nước ngoài đến Việt Nam lần đầu thì sợ và rất thú vị đó 😂. Chúng tôi thấy rất bình thường vì cảm thấy như vậy nhưng lại rất nhịp nhàng. Nếu các bạn muốn sang đường các bạn cứ đi thôi họ sẽ ko dừng nhưng các bạn đi đến đâu thì họ sẽ tự động dừng lại để bạn qua. Còn đứng chờ thì cả một ngày bạn sẽ ko thể qua đường được 😂.

As a foreigner, I would recommend to find any of the official Viettel Telecom stores! Otherwise, you can purchase a pre-paid SIM card also upon arrival at the airport but its more pricey then 😊

Tea is commonly served (free) with the coffee in VN. I was at that Vy coffee in D1 place sipping Ca Phe Sua Da around mid-night chilling out at the end of the day/night out. The Canadian Prime Minister (Mr Justin Trudeau) actually dropped in at that place after he had his morning run (with only a bodyguard) and no-one knew who he was. Vy Coffee was pricier but was still very cool though :)
So interesting! Totally agree - the price is high but it was worth it for the experience ☕️🤌

I am Vietnamese for me coffee is 1 type of experience drink, you should sit for a long time to drink small sips and think about everything in the middle of the bustling life ...
That’s the best of being in those type of coffee shops: people watching 👀 Always something interesting happens on the street!!!
Well, for the herbs or green veggies other than coriander (which you are not fond of…) you find in the food should be “citronella” or people commonly call it “lemongrass”, you should be able to find it in all kinds of Vietnamese food though…I personally love it in Pho (Vietnamese noodles) or fried cabbage & beef with it, it’s kind of adding that extra kicks to the food though🎉🎉🎉

Word of caution: Cheap food doesn't mean safe food, as contaminations and food poisoning happen ALOT in Commie Vietnam. Recently 300 people got hospitalized for food poisoning even in tourist destination Hoi An due to consuming contaminated Banh Mi. All true. Do your research!

You are absolutely right, we can not be too careful when it comes to food safety issues, but then again there might be people also say Expensive food doesn’t mean 100% safe…, the fact is we also got some cases of food poisoning either from night markets or some fancy restaurants, for sure this kind of issues happens all around the world, it just happens, this issue reminds me of a few years back (maybe 10 years back) there’s a huge group in the food industry (Ting Hsin INT’L Group) causing a huge issue here in Taiwan (HK & China also? As they do international businesses) we even call that “Food Safety Storm”… well even a big group like that can pull a huge scam in the food industry, we can not take these kind of issues too lightly for sure, then after this big deal a lot of new countermeasures, new policies and new government units established to oversea the food safety related issues…well, I might have gone too far on this one…
The truth is in our daily life, it’s really up to us (experiences or luck or google recommendations) to find out the end result of either cheap or expensive food…
But I am pretty sure that what J&K are trying to provide us is showing us, you do not have to be the king & queen to be able to enjoy the unknown & exotic journeys when traveling around the world (but this year 2023 focused on Asian Countries…), I hope my understanding is not too far off? Correct me if I am wrong though…
My personal experiences are also like this “sometimes the hidden treasures might not be the fancy or big ones”!
I don't think you'd find lemongrass in pho unless you make it yourself at home. In the veggies mix, the "minty" taste is more likely from perilla, mint, basil.. lemongrass is mainly used in marinade.

Try Com Tam Nguyen Van Cu if you are still in HCM. It is not too far from Ben Thanh market. You will enjoy the rice dishes. Ben Thanh market is not a place to eat. It is a tourist trap. The vendors source the cooking out & they don't cook themselves.

Very glad you like the Vietnamese cuisine, but the prices for 3 dishes at the end of video was too high, these only cost about 80k VND ( around $3.5).
Good to know! It was a popular markets, and tourist prices, that’s probably why.
Well, that market is known to be a ripoff and, as a VNese, I'd rarely eat/shop there. I was more surprised at the 72k vnd black coffee. Most roadside coffee I've had in HCM were less than 50k.

It’s funny because we had got reimbursed for that fraudulent activity but got charged at another ATM (using a different card) for the money we didn’t withdraw 😂 We contacted both the banks and they helped us with both these issues though! So it’s all good now 🎉

Not really! Teaching English was a nice chapter 4 years ago, but now we're trying to see more of what the world has to offer and explore different countries together 🙏 We've always wanted to do that and having this Travel Channel is really fun and enables us to follow our dreams!!! ❤️
