"How do you prove that you are the legitimate government of China?" When over 90% of the 1.4 billion ppl say so, that's a pretty good indicator. How many "democratic" countries can say that?

Amazing lot of learning about Chinese 1 party system. Western ask questions for the sake of argument rather to understand or learn from others success. I think this is the main reason of the western decline.
There’s something to this idea. The West conducts political discourse by arguing from one side. Interest groups fight their corner. So solutions to problems are either surrender, compromise or gridlock. Political discourse in China is the monopoly of the CCP and conducted through dialectical materialism, not through interest groups. Solutions can be holistic, addressing root causes.
@@brucelee4066 Except, asking tough questions to argue for the sake of argument without genuine intent to improve and learn through asking those tough questions, but only for showmanship and one-upsmanship, which are the Western reality, will only waste your life away without ever allowing you to improve at all!
This due keeps asking why other countries (most western countries) are not happy with China. It is not China's job to make other country's people happy. If you don't like China, don't any business with China, as simple as that.
Actually many Asian countries are not happy with China and we can't just not do business with China and escape the CCP's expansionism. The CCP's sea claims have been refuted by the UN but they keep trying to grab at most of SE Asia, India, Bhutan, Japan, Taiwan etc. I am pretty sure none of these are Western countries but being near to China we are more aware of how expansionist the CCP is now than Western countries.
The press especially in the West suppresses all positive news about China, and are the same time exaggerates the negative. Its no wonder their people have negative opinion about China.

It is working. That's how democracy works STUPID. I really appreciate hearing Eric’s point of view. I think his explaining China’s perspective is enlightening and should be heard by as many Americans and westerners as possible. Fostering understanding of each other (west and east, China and US) is vital to a future that should be characterized by peaceful coexistence and cooperation, not by ratcheting up of bellicose rhetoric and confrontation. These lively discussions, even the adversarial questions from the interviewer, are what can lead to more constructive exchanges of ideas that restore a more positive direction between great nations, going forward. Disengagement and decoupling is NOT the way to go. I hope Eric and similar brilliant thinkers from China will be heard more in the future.
But that is the problem, the western media/politicians do not want to show this kind of perspective to the west. Because it will paint the west in a very bad light. They will lie, belittle, tell half-truths, just to provide the narrative that the west is better. A simple documentary of PBS regarding poverty alleviation got cancelled, just because they paint China in a too positive perspective compared to all the social problems in the US...
@@fawaka6664 Agreed it’s a problem. What it will take is bold leadership. I am old enough to remember when Egypt and Israel were mortal enemies in the 1970’s, and then Egypt’s Anwar Sadat offered to come to Israel to thaw the ice and negotiate a peaceful coexistence. With Jimmy Carter’s help, it resulted in peace accords and Egypt recognizing Israel and its right to exist. Similar analogy would be Kissinger’s and Nixon’s trips to China in early 1970’s. I’m also old enough to remember that, and how America feared China, calling it “Red China” prior to Nixon’s visit and opening up. Now, it will take a summit between Biden and Xi, reaching agreement to take down the temperature between the countries and foster further dialogue. Maybe that will happen at the G20 this fall. Hope so. If it happens, then perhaps the media and other politicians will begin to take a less hostile, if not a friendlier tone, toward China. If it doesn’t happen, then the problems continue until there is a real crisis. Let’s hope it’s the former, which would be in the enlightened self-interest of both.

Dr. Li was an ophthalmologist, not a specialist in infectious disease, and he was not arrested, he was only warned by the police not to transfer messages that are not proved. At least 7 people were warned at that period according to Chinese law. Actually, he only sent a message like "SARS is coming again, take care..." (we all know it's not SARS) to his doctor classmates, and one of his classmates took a snapshot of his message and sent it to her mother, and her mother sent this picture to many groups of old people and made a large number of people panic about it, many of them left Wuhan and transferred the Coronavirus to other cities. And there was already a chief doctor from the Infectious disease department in one hospital in Wuhan, who submit the condition to CCD days ago, which follows the SOP built after SARS, much earlier than Dr. Li. Lab leaks occur and Obama bans all of it in 2014. 3. Fauci et al side step Obama's ban through Eco Health and HAND this over to Wuhan. 4. They get results. It's PUBLISHED. ALL OF THIS IS PUBISHED AND CAN BE PROVEN. 5. Some lab workers get sick, but as we know, they don't get immediately sick right there in the lab. Some others elsewhere, near a market, get sick, just a few. It takes days. So: this is a strange pneumonia. Don't blame China. Lab leaks happen all the time, which is why Obama banned it GOF. But yes indeed, checking blood bank blood from way before Dec. 2019, there were covid ANTIBODIES in it. So whoever donated that blood had covid and got over it. Doctors in Lombardy recall some people with an odd pneumonia, but it was so few that they fluffed it off. How many others were asymptomatic? MOST people were asymptomatic! Back to China. 6. A doctor or two speak out in a panic and get in trouble for making a panic. 7. Now more have it, NOW it is known. China puts genome up for all to see, says it's epidemic and closes down Hubei province where Wuhan is a city. 8. Too late. People from uninfected areas travel. Many had already traveled. Not all who traveled were Chinese. Consider how many people had it with no symptoms, which is THE problem here, and nobody knew about this part of it back then. You can have covid and not be sick at all. THAT is how it spreads so fast. People aren't sick at all, but they have covid, no symptoms - and it spreads. NOW this is known. Back then nobody knew anything.

Hong Kong university should do something from now on, terminate his position as a so call professor and send him back to US of the A to do street cleaning, that what he is qualified to do,
The only way it can survive is if they go back to total isolation from the rest of the world like when Mao, and Stalin ruled. But the floodgates are open now. It is not gonna be very difficult to do that again.
Keith asked these provocative questions is just to give the room for Eric to debate. The way he asked can be improved. Agree and disagree, this is a real discussion. If all parties have the same agreement, then there is no need to discuss. Great interview! Eric is so intelligent👍
@Will Parsons Ha, whataboutism, a fallacy, that Eric Li has mastered ever so "eloquently"! It just so happens there is a synonymous Chinese metaphor "Stinky Bug Argument" (臭蟲論), coined by Lu Xun, a leading figure in modern Chinese literature, in 1933 「凡中国所有的,外国也都有。外国人说中国多臭虫,但西洋也有臭虫。」
Eric Li should not say "cut us some slack". In the current context that phrase is apologetic. He doesn't need to be, and for that matter nor does the CPC. In hindsight it is clear that 89-64 was a "color revolution" defeated. So was the HK protests in 2019.
I think he was trying to be polite. But Keith is just well... repeating his lines over and over and asking the same question over and over slightly differently hoping that would wear down Eric or trip Eric up.
Mr Keith Richburg needs to empty his mind so that he can have any meaningful conversation about China and CPC with other experts. He already hase all these ingrained western narratives about China, it's hard to watch. He asked why Pew Research shows low positive view on China among western countries, if he's smart enough, he should know the answer himself. The US just approved $300 mil. fund to solely focused on saying bad things about China, to drive a wedge between China and other countries, and sabotage the one belt one road initiative. Most of major western media such as BBC, CNN, NY Times, Washington Post, not only focused on only reporting negative news about China, they also exaggerate, and a lot of times, spread pure lies about China. It's all these propoganda against China that has caused China's image to plummet among western citizens. Majority of the western people who actually visited China all reported that China's nothing like what they've read, heard, watched about China in the west. If Pew research actually polled people in Asia and Africa, they will get a much better picture because they are slightly less influenced by the narratives from the western media. Western citizens think they have freedom of speech, free press, but they just don't know they're brainwashed by the narratives the MSM presented to them every single day, only the smart ones understand the real situation. People in China are well informed about the events happening in this world, 100-200 mil Chinese nationals travelled to other countries, and then returned home. If China's that bad, these folks won't return home.

asking legitimate tough questions is part of the improvement process. If you can't handle tough questions you will never improve to your potential

Li. A team of specialists was already built at that time, this team went to Wuhan to investigate the situation twice, and decided to lock down Wuhan at the second visit.

In Malaysia it's always a capitalism with the skin of democracy that inherited from British. For China also believe in democracy but in communism way, not capitalism way
This is why China's democracy in communism way is so successful.
Mr Li, just the greatest, China stands up strong for its people.
I love all Eric Li 's speech and wise discussion. Have learned a lot from him.
Why not ask the question : " Can the US democracy stay for another one hundred years ?"
What democracy? The US is an Oligarch.
No one need to ask that, USA is falling apart as we speak. USA will dissolve into several countries as it is heading on the same path of the SOVIET UNION
The USA system was born from freeing the European wealth immigrants from Tax obligations from the monarch in Europe. China rose from freeing workers and peasant from control from imperial class and collaborative capitalists owners of resources
Well, we all know the answer to that...😂😂😂
Because most of the people in the world still living in the dream of U.S. is the correct one.
😂 Keith is from the council of foreign relations, they are part of the military industrial complex, no wonder he asks hostile questions.
You just knew about it ?!
Most of his questions reflect badly on the attitude of the Western media.
Its good to have those questions asked because they are the main criticisms that media write about china. Keith let eric answer without interrupting. The whole session was interesting because of the questions and eric answered them well.
They must have a poor recruitment programme because Eric buries him every time. Keith believes that being a liberal society is somehow more important than alleviating poverty and developing the country. The vast majority of Chinese people are happy with their government so why should they change just to satisfy people like him. His arrogance and ignorance is astonishing considering his many years living in that part of the world.
@@Wilburinsky lol keep believing that if it helps you sleep at night buddy. I’m sure Eric appreciates your concerns for his well being.
Keith has conveniently "forgotten" that most western corporate media in the US has mentioned that the Covid 19 virus was present in several US states in late November/early December 2019, Fort Detrick, and blood samples in Italy in Sept 2019. Also when Eric has corrected Keith in his answers, Keith nervously giggles away his foolishness in posing ridiculous questions.
@Cliff Lee this blackie isnt interested in hearing the china's side of story. In his mind, China is already the big bad evil n anything everything from China is always bad judging from his leading questions. Funny thing is this blackie chooses to ignore that china was infact the victim of falsehood perpetuated by the west but when the chinese fought back, they r labelled arrogant n thin-skinned !! 1. Known from way back: Fauci and others are in favor of gain of function. Many other top doctors think it's dangerous, insane.

Totally agree with Eric Li on legitimacy issue. Why give someone legitimacy if he is incompetent? Result is better than talk.
I found it funny Keith keeps saying "fair enough" whenever Eric's answer hits the nail and then struggles to find another angle to attack.
That's better than saying "wow, I'm truly a fool" for asking rhetorical questions by attempting to twist the narrative.

As an Asian, who's grown up in Europe/Germany, I very often have Diskussions about China/CPC with my German or European friends. Last time was just 2 days ago. I myself have never visiting Asia or China since 1979. But as a kid form a Vietnamese Mother and a Han Chinese Father, our family where very political. Also my German Godparents are very political people. But having Diskussion with Westerns are not an easy topic. Very oft it greated a cognitive dissonance among them. The questions showed up how misinformed the person who asked them. Specially when it was about Covid-19. Bravo, great answers from Dr. Eric Li
I like Erik a lot, eventhough he's 'a bit' defensive when one tries to attack China in a subtle way. But he's brilliant, there is no doubt about that.......
For a long time, I am very much fed up with such questions from "westerners" who are self-righteous, arrogant and stereotypical. They always ask questions in a way that you did wrong first, so now explain it.
But anyway, Eric did a superb job---intellegent, eloquent, persuasive and patient enough to answer stupid questions full of krap.
31:30 We don’t want a system that you hold a vote, you don’t deliver, you’re still legitimate.
Exactly
The black man interviewer is being unreasonable. Li has given reasonable answers. The interview wants just to discredit China. What’s legitimate if it is only procedural and now found to be less functional? And he seems like insisting China must have the election in order to convince acceptance. Why? If you think it is good you go ahead and let those think differently have their freedom to choose. About the doctor being being not allowed to inform the west, I am of the opinion not many people really know what has transpired, including the interviewer. A large part was the work of the western media in blowing big. Then again the thing happened just within weeks, and China has been responsible enough to provide the’geno’ why such a fuss and nasty provocation? The chinese should be smart enough not to take the bait, for China is doing right and good why change? The west been on the wrong track because they just protest for protest seek, just imagine now in America roughly half are in opposition and they are doing the protest work just for protest seek. This is a good system? Before this you’re good but some things have changed and you are no more good. And still you want other to follow a mistake ? Very vicious indeed.
The true of the matter is no matter what China does, the western media will always find ways to discredit them. The doctor who sounded the alarm was in fact did interviewed and investigated by the local police so what.?! The Chinese government did later on acknowledged this doctor was correct and made a public statement about it. Several Wu Han local officials were fired as a result. That’s an effective and responsible government should do. Unlike my beloved country where millions ppl died and no officials being held in responsible for their poor handling of the pandemic.
@@larryholou No, the doctor was not correct. He said the virus was the return of SARS. But it was not SARS. So it was fair that he received a warning for spreading misinformation. The government only wanted to honor the doctor who died as a hero in the midst of the pandemic. Also Keith was just repeating the western lie that the doctor said it was SARS like. He said it was SARS which only caused panic in the public.
@@lipincheng Good to point out the actual detail uttered by Dr. LWL and the need to prevent panic when an unknown malady is beginning. L.L. is 99+% correct in his response, so thanks for that. More importantly, as in his country, my beloved country truly f'ed up, now with 610K deaths and still counting, idiot Trump and his minions are not rotting in jail, and Biden along with Blinken et al., keep siding with brain-dead Republicans (and many Dems) to demonize China.
@@moyclan4663 Whether China handled everything right in the early days is for the most part, second guessing. But the fact that Vietnam had 0 death for the first 6 months despite 800 miles border with China is pretty clear indication that there wasn't a transparency issue that western media made it out to be. Keith was pretending he didn't know that. Covid isn't the first pandemic and won't be the last. China can and needs to be a significant part of the global effort to mitigate the next one starting with respecting mother nature more. But Keith was more interested in politics. Even then he glossed over the west's spectacular failure in Corvid management.
Democracy doesn’t mean “the vote”. Keith needs to do some work before interviewing Eric.
I was a FCC member 30 years ago and saw Keith Richberg as a moderator but have such a hostile attitude on this interview and I am not proud at all but interesting enough Eric Li is handling himself well with Keith’s questions.

Self criticism is done only when relevant! Eric eloquently answered👍

and who is to determine the relevance? Oh, it would be Dear President Xi!

Even it's a color revolution, there are still some things to reflect. I agree that one day China should be able to look at these issues formally.
Eric Li is brilliant. The "professor" was rude and wasn't listening.
Well done Eric Li in answering the questions - always good to hear his counter arguments.
This guy about US addressing race problem is embarassing.
