  • Built in 1928 with outsourced Atlas Imperial Diesel by Henry J Kaiser. This is the only one of three ever built, with this diesel engine. The first DIESEL Cat sixty chassis, prior to Caterpillar's own diesel engine in 1930/1

    I have watched this quite a few times and I just love that this thing still exists and is being cared for. A real one of a kind now and wonderful to see it being started. Thank you for the video and it's a very nice looking restoration.

    I fished king crab with the 130 hp 4-cylinder Atlas three years. It wasen't direct reversable. It had a gigantic planetary gear and brake that gave a maximum 40% reverse. I broke off piling and blamed it on the Coast Guard. I ran The Mary M to from Alaska to Seattle twice eventually replacing it with a D-342 slow speed 1000 RPM CAT. The Mary M was a wonderful boat traveling more than 9 knots with the CAT. I harvested more than 3-million lbs of king crab 3-million lbs tanner and tons of herring.

    The 1926 Atlas Imperial I owned in my boat 72-foot Mary M. It was installed in the boat in 1929 and 1930. The boat seined herring and salmon from California to Alaska. It was used by Rocky Roswell to salvage 130-foot WWII landing craft that sunk in 30-feet of water off the coast of Nome Alaska. The landing craft overturned in a big storm and sunk with road graders and D-8 cats on deck. Rocky cut the chains and they popped to the surface. He'd get two a year. I bought the Mary M in cordova, AK

      JED There’s a story in one of my tractor books, about when they were testing various diesels, they had a couple old guys running them 24/7. They’d get one in a tight spot and kill it, or leave to go to dinner or something, and shut them off. Then when they came back they couldn’t get them started again and had to call the factory guys to fire them back up.

    I saw this at Newark Tractor Show and took pic’s yesterday 06/11/22. Was curious how it was started with compressed air, amazing well done for keeping it running. 👍🤓😎🇬🇧🖖

    Would love some stats on this old beauty. Horsepower, RPM, torque, cubic inch displacement, fuel use per hour.

    • @ronaldkearn3322
      @ronaldkearn3322 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is probably 70 hp, at 350 rpm, around 600 ci displacement. fuel use for that engine would be 1 gallon per hour at 3/4 throttle. I know these stats from a friends engine of the same size.
