The top part of the retro drain is a vent as you can get air locks in them so I’d keep that and just come off the T. Get it in and see how it does before considering drilling. You’ll be amazed at how well they work. If you do decide to drill through you may as well remove the stone clippings and put the outlet under ground so the retro bottom drain pipe stays straight in the pond rather than across and up the wall. If your happy as you are keep the setup as it is now and just move the bottom drain to its best position. You’ll know if it’s no good in the middle because fish waste will find a dead spot to settle. Great looking pond and fantastic looking koi. Go check out Lou (the French koilection). She has a bottom drain like yours and has it piled up over the wall with the pump outside the pond, you will need to go back a bit to see the videos. As for air, you right. If your putting the same amount of air in does it matter if it goes in the filter or the pond. I’m in westbury wilts so not fair away. Looking at visiting south west koi soon as looks a great place.
