Thank you Rick! Thanks for being yourself. As a world we are inundated with falseness and over gilded lilies. It’s a breath of fresh air to see a real person, speaking from his heart making some smashing food! Thanks so much!
I’m lost for words to express what a genuine chap you seem. You’ve had a lot of low’s,but you pull through with determination. Only recently found your channel, but all meals you make,do look fantastic and are explained in a simple and easy(and fun) manner. ..Which actually makes me feel I could stray from my usual and easy everyday recipes. Keep up the good work!

You're so humble Rik. Your personality is just as important as your talent and everything about you shines through. We're grateful to have such a pleasant and talented teacher. This is one of the nicest channels I've found on TH-cam.
As the son of a Yorkshire woman,(Leeds) your whole self felt very familiar and welcoming to me and so that instant connection was formed off the bat. Please just keep on doing what you do because obviously it's working and I will look forward to seeing every video you post. Take care and good luck Rik, Peace
just a few words: you're guenuine, you dont cheat, you're who and what you're. When I 'm wtaching your videos, I remember the magic years I spent in UK and in Scotland 15 years ago; you are the UK soul, and I do love that.... and the recipes are so easy, and so tasty.... (even if it's british cooking 😁🤣😊😉) God save Rick!!!!!
Rik- I have a sign on my refrigerator that says “ I only have this kitchen because it came with the house.” In first grade my oldest son when asked by his teacher what his favorite food I cooked for him was said, “ my mom’s idea of starting dinner is starting the car.” Since watching your videos I have started to go into the kitchen and “not stress out” and to “take it easy”. The other night I took one of your recipes out of the oven and my husband said “Look at that!” And I just started laughing so hard I had to show him your video. Plus you look like our brother-in-law, Brett. You are comforting and lovely to watch. I lost my mom in 2019 and not a day goes by that I don’t miss her. So while our grief is personal, it’s universal. The last two months have been rough for me health wise but you keep me uplifted. Keep calm and carry on. Much love from Naples, Florida. 🇺🇸❤️😎
A real nice down-to-earth bloke who makes real nice down-to-earth food with clear instructions. So sorry about your Mum, its one of THE hardest things to cope with we can endure. Good luck for your future.
@@BackyardChefI was sorry to hear about your mum. I lost my first child, and loss can be extremely painful. I found comfort from the Bible. Two accounts come to mind, and without being too pushy or preachy, I will just tell you where they are and you can read them yourself 😊 In Luke chapter 8, from verse 41, there comes a ruler of the synagogue to Jesus because his daughter is very sick and he wants Jesus to heal her. However in verse 49 someone comes and tells the head of the synagogue that his daughter is dead. But notice what Jesus says in verse 52, he says “Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepers.” Then in verse 54 we see Jesus resurrects the young girl. There is another account in John chapter 11 verse 11 where Jesus uses the same expression, about Lazarus, Jesus’ friend, and says “Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.” And in verse 25 Jesus says: “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believe that in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” Why and where will the resurrection be according to Scripture? In Matthew chapter 5 vers 5 Jesus tells us: “Blessed are the meek: for they will inherit the earth.” I hope you can find as much comfort from these Scriptures as I did when I lost my son 😊🙏🙏🏿🙏🏽🙏🏾

I found your video by accident when it had Yorkshire Puddings in the picture. I'm German who lives in the US and am an Anglophile. I, like you, love foods and a variety thereof. I love love love good Thai and Chinese food and am discovering Curries, love the red ones! I'm sitting here listening to your story and am touched by your honesty of how you came to be here. It wasn't pleasant and we're still trying to catch up but as we age, other roadblocks appear. So, we feel for you. Your courage gives us all a little glimmer of hope. I've just recently found your channel and really enjoy watching you cook, explaining step by step in such simple terms that even at age 76, I can follow along 😂 I'm sorry that you and so many others have had such life changing challenges, but you have inspired folks to pick up, dust off, put one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward. I thank you Rick, and pledge to be a faithful follower.

Wow! Thanks so much. I value everyone, love all the recipe ideas and adjustments folks make - that's what cooking is all about - none of this "It has to be cooked like this" Lets keep it simple I say, for everyone to cook. Thank you. Best, Rik

Oh bless your heart Rick I didn’t know your back story just know this how well liked you are and how enjoyable it is to watch your videos and I have made many of your recipes just so straightforward and such a nice guy thank you x
Your channel has been a wonder find. I learned to cook from my Mum & an elderly next door neighbour Mrs Briers. I did home Economics at school & later in life I qualified to be a chef. I did very little with the qual, just wanted better knowledge of methods etc.. I grew up in North,so love a lot of your comfort food recipies ..pies espcially ( Yum) . I was lucky to have had amazing school dinners back in the day. Wether it be a chicken pie ,liver & bacon, beef curry & rice, stroganoff or puds like Gypsy tart, chocolate crunch or sticky toffee pudding ..I was always inqisutive & thirsty for knowledge. Love your story of how you got here ,keep them recpies coming & here's to the next 50k subscribers.🥳.. All the best ,so very well deserved .🥰🙏..x
Thank you very much for your kind words. The recipes will be pouring out, I've cooked for a little while. I want to make this channel so everyone can cook, because they actually can. I like you, have had to stand on the line cooking the same tosh over and over. The real chef's of this world are the Women, wives, grandma's and mum's. They have to put a different meal on the table everyday! Using the ingredients they have to hand. Forget all the tosh of the tv chef's most of them even though qualified talk so much tosh its unbelievable. This channel isn't about me, its about putting a real meal on the table. I would not like to waste the money of the hard earned. I thank you again for your kind words. I wish you all the very best, Rik
@@BackyardChef Thank you for your wonderful reply. I absolutely agree. I remember making my first apple & blackberry Jam made with 'Scrumped fruit' 😂..aged about 9 . It was a bit of a fail but dear Mrs briers said ,it would make a fine pie filling ,it sure did. I think when you get a positive response from what seemed upsetting, from a real expert it nurtures something within. That was my beginning & I am pleased to say that both my daughters could cook quite well by the age of 10/11 & both are now great home cooks.I taught them like my elderly neighbour did me.There are no failures just adaptions ... Love & blessings 🙏..x
Well done to you! I never have tried to put anyone down in my time. As you say a little word, do you think you could make it this way, or what might have gone wrong? You know I always tried the food, even if it didn't come to par. Most of the time it tastes great if the correct ingredients are used. It might just not look quite right. Your daughters are very lucky. I would appreciate any suggestions for menus here. Thanks for sharing; lovely to read. Best, Rik @@harmoniefaerielove

Hi Chef ! I found your channel just a while ago and I come back again and again because I find your content wonderfully worthwhile. Very sorry about your mum, keep her in your heart, that's where she was and where still is. My first contact was when I needed some sort of "interesting" meal I could cook with my son, my wife and I divorced and keeping the connection with the teen was a challenge. I found your British "comfort food" was the catch. I used to travel to the UK for work and I would tell my boy of the food I would experience. So my boy and I have been learning about food from yours and others food channels, good luck to you and "long may your big jib fly. All the best.

I lost my mum suddenly as well and she was my best friend. She was who I went to for everything. Mums are our Rocks!!! ❤❤❤
Your videos are brilliant and I've learned so many new dishes that are fascinating. I love a good pie and your pie crust recipe is incredibly simple, no fuss no muss. Your videos are enjoyable to watch and your enthusiasm when you make these fantastic dishes is fun to see. It's contagious.
Thank you for sharing your life, your life story and your recipes with us. I wish you loads and loads of nothing but the best and continued success!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Wow! I'm genuinely touched. Thank you so much. Yes not easy loosing everything at 60 as you know. Its a test we can all pass it. Good luck to you, wishing the best. Love from here to there. Best, Rik

Thank you. Appreciated. Best, Rik
You are the only food channel that I keep up with. At 90+ "they" don't let me cook much anymore so I Iive my kitchen experiences vicariously through you. Keep it up and don't change a thing - Oh, a thought - have you ever tried Polish Piroshki? MMMM GOOD!
Wow! Melissa, I'm truly honoured to have you on here. Please feel free to give your experiences and recipe suggestion, your experience out ways mine in the kitchen. Thank you. Best, Rik

Wow! Thanks so much. I value everyone, love all the recipe ideas and adjustments folks make - that's what cooking is all about - none of this "It has to be cooked like this" Lets keep it simple I say, for everyone to cook. Thank you. Best, Rik
Rik I love your program. I love the way you introduce us to traditional UK foods. Thank you.
I am from a farm in South Africa.... from Dutch and Portuguese heritage. Nothing English😂 but I love the UK.

A very mutually beneficial arrangement. We got an air fryer after watching you. Now the main cook in our household wants to do everything in it. We all types of foods as well but I'm really enjoying the traditional dishes from around the UK--particularly from Wales. I am very sorry for your loss. Mom's are soul of this world.
Thanks for your kind words. Yes I agree. Good luck with the cooking. Best, Rik
Awwww! Love from Alabama USA

Bless your cotton socks Rik.We really appreciate you. x
Thank you. Best, Rik

What a candid video, Rik. So sorry to hear about you mum's demise. Been quite a trying few years for most after the Covid era, and still is in most parts of the world. Such a genuine person you are! And your food, ohhhh, comes out just right, every time.

Thanks, Brian. You keep cooking with the boy - that is time you will never get back. Best, Rik
