I spent 6 months reviewing, researching, testing, and most importantly saving for one of three, the Multistrada, the Tiger Explorer and the R1200GS. At the end of the day (6 months) I went with the Ducati. It's the most amazing riding experience, every time. The Ducati was the only one that made me squeal like a pig when I gave it some throttle. Anyone who bashes the Ducati Multistrada has either 1. Never ridden one. 2. Can't afford one. It's like nothing else out there, NOTHING comes close.

The Triumph that competes with the Multistrada is the Tiger 1050 Sport, with its 17'' front wheel, not the Explorer which targets/mimics the R1200GS...

My Multi only needs major service done every 15,000 miles. I do all the other maintenance, so I have zero issues with lack of fun.

there simply is no debate about which one is the better sports tourer...the ducati, end of story. triumph is a heavy pig no matter how much you sugarcoat it.

At the end they suggest going to their website for the in depth review. This is just a video overview of their thoughts. Not bad considering you get both for free...

I tested a Muttleystrada and I agree that in certain situations, its great fun. Explosive acceleration for overtaking and light flickable handling. What I didnt like was the cramped riding position, rough engine at low revs which made it useless for commuting and a more buzzy experience at highway speeds. If you want that kind of buzz, I would go for a sports bike.

    dahveed284,
Of all the 1200 "adventure bikes" (BMW KTM etc) The multi is the most exceptional off road because of 2 reasons. The 2 reasons should be pretty obvious to people who ride dirtbikes and off road. Weight and Engine Mapping. The multi is the lightest of the bunch (Pikes Peak is 470lbs wet and 1200s is 500lbs) while the others clear 600lbs very easily. Multi has an enduro mode which cuts down HP and increase the torque which is exactly what you need off road so you don't dig a pit.

I've even tested the Multi off road and it was incredibly surprising.

The side panniers on the Triumph don't seem to be installed as sturdy. They are moving around a lot while riding especially on rougher surfaces.

Turkish- Good eye with regards to the Triumph bags...in fact they are "purpose built" to have pivot or "float" in them so that in leaning athe bike, the rider didn't have to immediately address the inertia in weighted bags

A pretty fair comparison, I own an Explorer so am probably biased in it's favour. No I can't afford the Ducati and doubtless it is a great machine, the test failed to mention that the cheaper Triumph also comes with maintenance free shaft drive.
If you look at the front of the Ducati and think you see the front cylinder and radiator you are only partialy correct, they also double as receptacles for all the crap and filth thrown up by the front wheel. Look at the silly little mudguard!

agreed! I didn't get on the KTM, we don't have many dealers near me

No doubt that the Ducati is an nice street bike, but I think the big Tiger is the better ADV Touring bike. First of all its got better wheels for the on and off road. Secondly, I like the staff drive for a touring bike.
While I know Ducati thinks of the Multistrada as an ADV Touring bike, I think more of it as a naked sports bike. Not sure it would be my first choice for a long distance tour.

I've actually gotten the nerve to take it on a few fire roads and I was amazed at how nimble it was for a friggin 1200. The people who knock the Ducati's off road capabilities have never ridden one, it's plain and simple.

The Multi-Strada is a Fantastic machine...-and as stated, Canada
sucks for riding season...-and on this little island, almost any bike
is too fast...a big cruiser is a good workout here,anyways....[have
V-Star...and Gixxer]..I hear the best rain tires are Michelin PP3?
Agree?....[you prolly run Pirelli Diablo Rosso]...thx

The TEx is a far better all rounder, the swiss army knife of bikes with loads of smooth torque from idle, power throughout the range, fabulous handling, making it perfect for commuting, scratching, touring and some sortees off road (NOT mud or tricky singletrack though!) Cruise control, heated seats etc.... its the only bike you ever need!

Why do people think this? The BMW is just as pricey as the Mutli, and both have their own reliability problems.
