  • Bourbon Villa or architectural complex for the management of the "Royal Foundries", in the Ferdinandea area in the territory of Stilo at 1061 metres above sea level. The vast Ferdinandea complex, inaugurated on 18 October 1832 by Ferdinand II of Bourbon, from whom it takes its name, included the hunting lodge, the ironworks, the barracks, the residential and administrative buildings, the stables and the cowsheds. In the courtyard of the villa there is a bust of the King and an axially arranged oval basin. The King of the Two Sicilies, while visiting the foundries (ruins on the left), stayed for a short time in the Royal Palace. The first Italian railway "Naples - Portici", inaugurated in 1839, was built with tracks forged in the Ferdinandea foundries. In the "old ironworks of Stilo", in 1754/55, over 2000 pipes for the aqueduct of the Royal Palace of Caserta were built based on models by the architect Luigi Vanvitelli. The territory is part of the Ecomuseum of the ironworks and foundries of Calabria, and of the Regional Natural Park of Serre. The Ferdinandea is a large estate, between 800 and 1400 metres above sea level, included in the territories of Stilo, Bivongi, Brognaturo, Mongiana and Serra San Bruno, almost entirely covered by tall forests, where beech and fir trees predominate.
