That Frontier's power output was pathetic, even blown. I used to had an '02 Sienna factory rated at 210HP/222TQ with the 3.0L 1MZFE V6. It revved like a bastard and after installing an underdrive pulley the thing would take out with the slightest throttle input.
Not sure why you would think adding more power would change the towing capacity. Lot more then that goes into towing capacity. Plus any time you add more power your adding little more fuel so yeah, fuel economy takes a hit. It does add a little more maintenance but not a huge deal. Only other con I would add is the need for running premium gas. It will tow little better than the NA and get out of its own way faster. To some people that is worth it. lol
@@joyroc885 so a V8 can tow more than a V6 in a truck right? V6 has more power than a V8. John said Nissan added more power with the blower to increase power. More power should translate into more towing since the vehicle weight did not go up much as SC dont weigh anything. I dont buy my TOW trucks for 0-60 runs. I buy them for towing. Thats why a 2wd can tow more than a 4wd and rear end ratios and springs set ups etc make a difference. So the supercharger did nothing but decrease 0-60 times, add more maintenance and didnt help the engine work easier to over come power to weight ratio to increase mpg.. That explain it?
@@Butchcub75 Seeing as how the automatic Frontier was rated to 1500lbs more, the towing capacity on the Frontier was likely to have been limited by the manual transmission. In addition, rated towing capacities also take into consideration the brakes, the cooling system, the rear end gearing, the strength of the box frame as well as the rear leaf springs etc. A lot more than just power.
@@shallowgrey Im well aware of what goes into engineering of a tow vehicle and a tow package. Autos can tow more than manuals. The point is the supercharger did nothing but decrease 0-60 times. For a truck thats useless. I didnt buy an F150 with a 5.4 vs the 4.6 to hit 60 faster. I did it for the 8700lb tow rating vs 7700 with trailer towing package (back in the day). The WHOLE point was the blower adds weight, complexity and maintenance for NOTHING that is generally for use in a a truck. You also forgot differential gearing and final drive ratio and over all vehicle weight (why a 2wd can tow more than a 4wd)., among extra cooling and other things. The options list really didnt matter when John Davis pointed out that nothing was gained from a towing aspect by adding the blower( if said options were ordered). Our tiffin Allegro bus can tow more than the Tiffin Zephyr (with a higher horsepower Cummins) yet theycan be the same size. (42' on a FL chassis)
Indeed, 40 HP more than the NA VG V6 (170 HP), which was only 20 HP more than the NA KA 4 cylinder (150 HP). Basically, 60 HP with a supercharger and 2 extra cylinders and all the extra maintenance costs and complication to only go 17MPH faster (117 MPH V6 vs 100 MPH I4 top speed). Give the KA a turbo and bigger injectors and the stock internals are good to about 400HP. Anything more and you're going to want to seriously consider forged internals. Unfortunately, 4WD KA was only offered on the Frontier; the Xterra was only offered with a RWD. Furthermore, the 4WD KA Frontiers are somewhat rare; I've only ever seen one in person.
i have a 2018 Desert Runner, no supercharger in those newer years, but still have an upgraded rear axle and Bilstein shocks all the way around.
God those were the days a new truck for 18k the glory days of the mid size pick up sad to see they are now gone.😢😢
The best trucks!
Is it worth it now days?, so is not very fuel efficient, in that case is ist better a V8 Chevy?

Baddest ass trucks ever made 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
should have done an OFF road test… but still a cool truck.
seems like the supercharger was a waste. No more towing, no better fuel economy and more maintenance.
More fun!

The trucks id cool and more fun
@@DJSekuHuskyKA was 143 HP. The V6 SC was not high maintenance. The SC truck drives WAY better than the NA V6 or the 4.
