I wish the prosecutors would've brought rape charges with perjury and obstruction charges. At least to have it reported that he was charged even if the court dismissed it. He raped those women by proxy and there's no reason to continue doing this and lying about it if he actually had good intentions. This man and anyone else who did what he did should be in jail until their spot in hell is ready.
Thank you - this was literally my first thought and it gets overlooked maybe (not necessarily) from a male perspective that it is, in its essence, r*pe! None of those women consented to being impregnated by him or anyone else 😢

@taiya001 they might just not want to put their mother's through that. In the end it was the mother's that were harmed and most of them would just be learning what happened to them. The mother's were the ones who were victims of the crime so they'd be the ones forced to testify. It really wouldn't be fair to force them to process how they'd been violated so quickly and in the public eye like that
And that’s just people we know of, remember: back then people hid the fact that they were getting sperm donated, so there’s probably even more, especially considering that he would only admit to “donating” within parameters of discovered numbers.
I live in Indiana, not too far away from where all this took place. The idea that I could run-into, or already know any of the people affected by this case is chilling.
they may even commit incest unknowingly if they don't know that they are half siblings. That is so sick that he did not foresee that but he probably doesn't care and just want to do his experiment. He definitely deserves to be locked up for deceiving the parents and the kids.
The doctor probably thought one of 2 things 1)he didn't care about his children procreating with eachother 2)he figured by the time any if his descendants met up and had kids, the threat of complications from incest would be minimal, at best. Example, people who are 5th cousins are less likely, but not immune to, have kids that have complications because the blood relationship is more distant and diluted because their common ancestors were their great-great-great-great grandparents. But, what he did pretty much increased the chances that if his kids don't meet up and have kids, his grandchildren or great grandchild may. If I were his kid, I may try to get ahold of all my siblings, 1st, and 2nd cousins together so we can know eachother and avoid accidental incest. If I couldn't, I'd be DNA testing everyone I was dating to be sure we weren't related. Same with any kids I'd have when they started dating.
@@jagirl966also it is important for note that if there weren’t any incest cases already present, usually complication won’t occur as often the first case of incest. However, if a child brown of a first case of incest continues the cycle unknowingly, that’s usually where issues will become more noticeable and be more harmful. I could be wrong so correct me if I am. But I agree with what you said about the poor grandchildren.
@@kawaiicake8038 not meaning to sound rude or crass, but look what happened with the Habsburg family. Malpractice is a very specific thing legally. This is unethical but malpractice means a doctor didn’t do the right medical procedures. He didn’t do anything medically wrong, such as removing the wrong kidney or unnecessarily performing a hysterectomy. He did the wrong thing morally but not medically.

I think sperm donars should be able to be semi-anonomous. Like they should be anonymous but with records kept and middle men to foster any necessary communication
No offense to any male physicians here, but as a woman, I choose female doctors whenever I'm given the chance. I especially insist when it comes to more intimate care such as OBGYN and GI. Statistically I'm also just better off with a female doctor when it comes to outcomes. Again, no offense, but some men just need to be better. Like, the fact that morgues prefer to hire female staff should freak more people out. Men need to be held more accountable by their coworkers. Now if it came to me having cancer or something and a certain male specialist was the obvious choice, I would consider it. However for "normal" stuff, I'm picking a woman every single time. I have a friend whose two year old daughter had fused labia and had to see an OBGYN as a result. The male doctor walked in, didn't wash his hands, and immediately put his hands on her genitals without warning. 😒 Unbelievable disregard for the patient and her mother who watched this unfold in horror. Not to mention the several cases where women have been assaulted by their male OBGYNs. Horrifying shit.
Funny, as a female, if given the choice, I choose a male physician/medical professional every time. In fact, I've insisted on male physicians over a female physician. I don't need/want emotional thinking or reasoning playing a part in my medical care, and bedside manner just happens to be very unimportant to me regarding medical professionals. And yes... that's a dig against female professionals....
@@isabellaunsolved8844 Better to be a female professional with "emotional thinking" than a female like you, who apparently does no thinking whatsoever.

51:01 I always find it “interesting” when prosecutors say “oh the JURORS will never care about this.” Like, sir, isn’t it your job to MAKE them care? Seems a little early to throw in the towel if this is something you really care about
There is an opportunity cost to pursue the case. You’re digging up trauma for the victims and passing up an opportunity to pursue another case because unfortunately there are way too many cases and a limited amount of legal resources. That’s why prosecutors care so much if a case is “winnable” or if it’s too much of a long shot. If prosecutors had unlimited time and resources then yes, every case would be worth pursuing, but that’s not the case. It’s an unfortunate reality that there are so many crimes and not enough legal resources to punish them.

@ the follow up question at the end: I think sperm donors should be allowed to choose if they want to be anonymous. And the person receiving the treatment should be allowed to choose if they want to know or not. And then they can be matched up according, just as they do with everything else! This case is absolutely WILD
What if the kid wants to know? he or she wasn't in on the agreement about not knowing the father's identity. It's not the mother's looking for the information on the dad, it's the kid.
You cannot choose anonymity if you donated to make a whole other human. The child should have the right to know. Not in terms of seeking a "father", but hereditary diseases or a history of such that the donor may have not been aware of. This isn't only about the mother/parents and the donor.
@@everlynevins This method of conception definitely cuts children off from relevant genetic medical information, like if they might be a carrier of an genetic disorder, or generally what runs in their family. Yes the man could be quizzed on this information, but he may not be aware of something, or not want that to get in the way of his donation, so he may not be completely honest. Osteoporosis runs in my family and relatively young too, as does Alzheimer's, and autism. Which I know because the immediate and extended family I grew up with are blood relatives. I also know that Huntington's, breast cancer, and many other things don't run in the family. I'm grateful to have that kind of knowledge.
How manipulative of these sick men to try and pin it on how desperate these women were to have a baby. Look, sometimes, god is telling you to do something else with your life (donate your time to charity, give back to your community, get hobbies, care for animals, care for the elderly or disabled). We aren’t all supposed to have nuclear families. It doesn’t even make sense for us to. It’s disgusting these doctors use desperation against them.
I don't think that's the takeaway here... Like yes, that's a social concern, but these couple went for a doctor to get help with something they wanted, no matter what the reason. I wouldn't pin it on them being "froced" to WANT to get pregnant, but their TRUST was abused in a medical system that has prioritized profit over credibility and transparency, efficiency over morals. That is what the doctor abused for his own gratification, not the societal family norms and gender expectations. These people went out of their way to have their dreams become true, not just random women around the town dragged in under the threat of shame. We have no way of knowing if these women would have opted out from having children in more allowing cultural contexts, so speculating on them not _really_ wanting it in the first place is a little bit silly. People who want to have children aren't in the wrong for seeking help with fertility, they're having a medical concern. It's not just them feeling pressured by society into something they for some cosmic reason aren't "supposed to" want. You're coming from a benevolent place, but please don't tell people who are struggling with their well-reflected on dream of having biological children that they're going against what God wants from them. Women shouldn't be made to feel inferior for struggling with fertility or not wanting to become mother for whatever reason even if they are physically able to, but neither should couples be blamed for seeking help when they're having troubles with conceiving when they really want to get pregnant. Again, nobody should feel pressured into wanting children, that's a social issue. I don't believe in fertility struggles being the sign from God to give up on family dreams. That should come down to one's inner calling and informed will. That's how God calls upon people; there's nothing wrong with medicine to overcome medical and physiological restraints. Medicine - like all progress of culture - is God's gift too.
@@dadaguiar Well, yeah, but that has nothing to do with whether or not they _should_ want to have kids. People are okay for seeking help with getting pregnant. The motivation for doing so is a whole another issue. Obviously the medical system shouldn't play into those societal pressures or enforce guilt to fuel their business (the american one especially, as notorious as it is for just that). But it's not as if people would stop getting treatment when they want kids if they knew they are free to not have kids. There will be people who want to have kids, they aren't just culturally manipulated into feeling so.
my mom always jokes that i should never date people from a certain city because they might be my cousin (i literally have 60+ 1st and 2nd cousins just on her side, my family is massive) and this man singlehandedly polluted the genepool in a 25 mile radius for at least 3 generations. absolutely digusting and deranged.
A good man doesn’t violate women with his own sperm. This is disgusting and we as women should have a right to decide what’s okay and what’s not when it comes to sperm donation. He’s not a sperm donor and these women had no clue what he was doing. That is borderline SA in my opinion. The fact he lied about it proves his guilt. He knows it’s wrong! He should be in jail for it.

This case infuriates and sickens me. These people aren't even going to care how violated and hurt these families and their children were. This wasn't okay.
Petal, in answer to your questions: IMO, donors should never be anonymous and they should never be a woman’s doctor. Donors must submit to extensive genetic screening. Donors have no parental entitlement or obligation. And the children conceived through donation can never expect parental relationships or obligation, financial of otherwise. No one should ever be put in a situation like this! We need Federal laws & regulations ASAP!
That's quite unfair for the children, they never consented to be born from a 'donor' and thus never were involved in any such contract of relationships.
The donor is in fact the kid's dad. If a woman has a one night stand and gets pregnant, even if she doesn't know who she slept with, that man is still considered to be the kid's father. But for some reason when a man donates to a sperm bank, and a woman then conceive with his sperm, and doesn't know who he is, we are in denial that he's the child's father. We say he's just a sperm donor, like your sperm helping to convince a child doesn't by definition make you a father. When a man donates sperm, he is in fact signing up to be a dad.
@@FronteirWolf Oh I agree, but I think that's the commericalization of baby-making as a whole-where children are seen as more commodities and whether they're brought into a stable and healthy environment with their emotional and physical well-being is not a priority.
@@FronteirWolfexactly. A child is born with the right to know and be involved with both its biological mother and biological father. Any other arrangement is hurtful to the child, NOT consented to by the child, and chosen due to the parent(s) prioritizing their own happiness over the child’s well being. I don’t believe going to the sperm bank to be ethical or ideal for the conceived child. Any child who is a result of sperm donation will probably want to know about their paternity, and they have a right to. The very innate desire to know that speaks to how wrong the arrangement is to begin with.

A harsher sentence would have been more appropriate for Cline, considering the irreparable damage done. As for the siblings that threatened to cut Jacoba off over her continuing to speak about those issues, they were never family to her to begin with then. There's plenty of other siblings out there for her that are TRUE siblings to her. They can disagree with her all they want. That is okay. What they could have done to better address it would be to simply tune out any content involving Cline that especially includes her public affairs relating to the case, you know, by avoiding the news entirely, whether it be via TV or online sources and heck. Even social media. And with Jacoba, she has the right to simply not discuss anything with them regarding her public affairs regarding the case to them considering it makes them that uncomfortable. That would be out of consideration on her part. Her reasons for continuing to discuss it publicly are pure as far as I'm concerned. If it was solely to enrich herself, that would be more understandable. But this was definitely not entirely about enriching herself.
Have there been any of Cline's children that found out they were unknowingly married to their half-sibling? With the possibility that there might be more of his progeny out there than we know of, there might be. IDK, just curious, I guess.

This one gives me chills. Man finds a way to exploit 97 or so mothers.
One caught but I wonder how many others have done such. 😢
Historically, Many. It is not uncommon in the field until the last few decades.
DNA gonna mean that long dusty secrets will be revealed. Man never thought get caught…
Men shouldn’t be allowed to do gynecology or to be close to women in that context. Unpopular opinion but true!
there is a very similar case in the netherlands
It’s unfortunately common. And it’s pervasive and a public health risk since so many more people decide to have children through infertility treatments.
I feel so bad for Jacoba, she went through so much to learn about all of her siblings and to try and bring that vile man to justice, just for it to fall flat and them to not speak to her because she wanted to speak out against all of this, i'll never understand why they didnt speak out with her more to help any other people this could ever/will ever effect
@taiya001 they might just not want to put their mother's through that. In the end it was the mother's that were harmed and most of them would just be learning what happened to them. The mother's were the ones who were victims of the crime so they'd be the ones forced to testify. It really wouldn't be fair to force them to process how they'd been violated so quickly and in the public eye like that
Tbh I understand why they didn't want the notoriety though. I can't blame them for desiring privacy
And that’s just people we know of, remember: back then people hid the fact that they were getting sperm donated, so there’s probably even more, especially considering that he would only admit to “donating” within parameters of discovered numbers.
Plus many people did not tell the children the truth about their IVF birth.
@@ereristark425 this here
This isnt ivf, it's artificial insemination
I live in Indiana, not too far away from where all this took place. The idea that I could run-into, or already know any of the people affected by this case is chilling.
This is the thing that kills me about these giant sibling pods. So many of these people had no idea and have been taken advantage of in the worst way.
they may even commit incest unknowingly if they don't know that they are half siblings. That is so sick that he did not foresee that but he probably doesn't care and just want to do his experiment. He definitely deserves to be locked up for deceiving the parents and the kids.
He probably freaked out when he saw how ancestry DNA tech was developing
That’s a good point
The doctor probably thought one of 2 things
1)he didn't care about his children procreating with eachother
2)he figured by the time any if his descendants met up and had kids, the threat of complications from incest would be minimal, at best.
Example, people who are 5th cousins are less likely, but not immune to, have kids that have complications because the blood relationship is more distant and diluted because their common ancestors were their great-great-great-great
grandparents.
The doctor and other like him could cause that if their children had no way of knowing they were related.
Like the case of twins who were separated at birth, met and got married. Only when they were trying to have kids was it revealed they were siblings. They divorced or got an annulment. There was even a case where a man met and fell in love with a woman who turned out to be his biological daughter. In a disgusting twist, he was okay with sleeping with his own daughter. 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

I wonder why the prosecutor didn't think of medical malpractice for this case. Shouldn't this be a malpractice?
Also, I wonder if they could have made a case for it being a public health concern. He has the medical background to know that inbreeding is at a greater chance, the more half sibling that is out there.
Apparently it wasn’t malpractice
Malpractice is a very specific thing legally. This is unethical but malpractice means a doctor didn’t do the right medical procedures. He didn’t do anything medically wrong, such as removing the wrong kidney or unnecessarily performing a hysterectomy. He did the wrong thing morally but not medically.
@@elyse443 "Removing wrong kidney". Wouldn't this be inserting wrong semen sample?
@@Illumnia548 no bc technically there was no "correct" semen sample

I am a young 17 year old girl myself with rheumatoid arthritis and this sickens me. Even as a young women I want to be a mother one day and the thought I can risk giving my future children and future family members down the line with my autoimmune disease has always worried me as a 7 year old and even still now that I am 17. The fact this doctor did not only violate these women but pass on the risk of a very painful disease or health risks is disgusting. I would 10000% consider this the r word. And that should’ve been considered a crime then too.
I watched a bit of a netflix documentary about this case a long time ago. what he did was absolutely vile. I wasn't able to finish the documentary because I was so disturbed.
1000000% agree with all of this!
@@isabellaunsolved8844 interesting, choice as you are literally less likely to be killed by a female physician whether you're male or female. 🙄 Not all of us have had wonderful experiences with male physicians. You do you, boo, but statistically you're safer with a female doctor.
@@isabellaunsolved8844in the convos i’ve had with men, they are all more emotional than us. I’d rather have someone who has felt the same pains as me. not some mane that thinks they know better

Whitewashing a child's passing is disgusting.
That was the most strange part of this entire story. There’s no reason to do that. Unfortunately fertility fraud is not uncommon, but whitewashing is just so weird in this scenario. Especially considering the actual family was affected with it. It’s disrespectful

PLEASE, lovely Petal, make a video about two czech boys, one who ended up in coma (and died last week) and another one who ended up in awaken coma with damaged brain, both because of bad operation of tonsils and even WORSE behavior of staff of the hospital.
The one who is still alive - Adam Vycital and the hospital was in Pardubice. It was in 2017. There is even a footage from a cctv where the poor mother is running with the boy in her hands and tries to find a help - one doctor just passes her by, not even ask her if she needs something, then a nurse appears but she is not able to help.
The one who died - His name was Matej Kocian and the hospital he was in was in Brno. I think the operation was in 2010. He lived for 14 years.
Both incidents are tragic and people should know about this. I ADORE your videos and I think you are the right person who could talk about it. If you would need any help with translation, I can help. Sending hugs and thanks for your videos, Kat

@ the follow up question at the end:
I think sperm donors should be allowed to choose if they want to be anonymous.
It’s disgusting these doctors use desperation against them.
for a lot of these people their religion socializes them to have children as well.
Damn - this took a very, very-long time to litigate.
too long!
The parents should all start asking for child support until he goes bankrupt.
Unfortunately you can't get child support after the kid turns 18. In the US
my mom always jokes that i should never date people from a certain city because they might be my cousin (i literally have 60+ 1st and 2nd cousins just on her side, my family is massive) and this man singlehandedly polluted the genepool in a 25 mile radius for at least 3 generations. absolutely digusting and deranged.

Hello Petal! Hope you’re doing great! Sending love from Arizona.
Hi petal, would you ever put your videos on Spotify?
new background looking great love the mix up
Petal, in answer to your questions: IMO, donors should never be anonymous and they should never be a woman’s doctor.
Thank you for sharing this information.

I really enjoy your videos. It is really good content
Have there been any of Cline's children that found out they were unknowingly married to their half-sibling? With the possibility that there might be more of his progeny out there than we know of, there might be. IDK, just curious, I guess.
