To me, this is a device that fixes some of the problems I had with the PreenFM2 Not having feedback made the Preen a bit less fun. The menu was 100% frustration too. This seems like a good buy for taking advantage of multitimbral FM at a steal price.
How very cool. I like how the original OPL chip is displayed. I was just reading about FPGASID replacement for the SID chip. It would be cool to see a similar box featuring a SID-style chip.
Thanks for watching! I have a playlist on my channel homepage with some tutorials. th-cam.com/video/3B-0WO_7Ve0/w-d-xo.html Generally, starting with 2 operators and dialing in more subtle values is a good way to start.
I have the OPL3 chip on soundcard in my vintage computer, which I plan to make music with using Adlib Tracker 2. The obly problem is I struggle to make instruments because FM is complicated. I wanna get this little box for FM instrument purposes but I have no midi controller and it costs many monies.
Thanks for watching! FM isn't that complicated... Stacking operators brightens up the sound. A little bit of practice and you'll be able to create exactly the sound you had in mind.
Haha! That was around the time when we started judging the quality of new synths by the quality of their piano sounds. I think most people didn't "get" FM until very recently. Back in the day, FM was all about cheesy e-pianos and power ballads. ;-)
You're right. I wrote a lengthy reply to a similar comment here about the dilemma indie developers will find themselves in when trying to sell DIY hardware in smaller quantities.
wow this is cool! It's a nice how the screen gives a visual feedback on the somewhat complicated aspect of FM synthesis. Must resist!
Thanks for watching! The 4 screen setup is really intuitive indeed.
You make my day. In a world of a flood of boring releases, you get us jazzed for some geekery. Isn't that the best part of the synth world?
A little bit of geeking out doesn't hurt, right? ;)
I'm actually surprised how great the old YM262 sounds when used in another context! And what a nifty little box Kasser has made for it.
The 4 screen UI is a stroke of genius. ;)
I REALLY enjoy your reviews!!! Thanks!!
Thanks for watching!
Great review! I love the way this sounds. I’m going to get one.
Thanks for watching - hope you'll enjoy that small synth! Please keep in mind I used external reverb ;-)

Thanks for watching, and thanks for bringing that to my attention. Need to investigate :-)
I’m pretty sure Elektron used up all the remaining SID chips for SID-Stations
Cool box. Always forget how useful the MPC is as an FX unit for external gear.
It is (though it's overkill to use it for that specifically ;-) )
great video
Thanks!
I love fm synthesis but i still have trouble trying to make cool sounds.

@@mr_floydst I'll get there eventually, In the meantime I'll keep practicing and making chiptunes
Dorky cool!
Yes indeed ;-)
I remember the times when soundblaster sounded like shit on pc and I was desperate to get an MT-32.

@@mr_floydstYeah, fm was the future in the 80s, the past in the 90s and the present today.
I think FM synths need more knobs not less ^^
