    I want success in my life, but I don't have any passions. It feels like I'm just lazy and that's not the case. When I'm interested in something, I do that but I lose interest quickly when I turn that into a job. I just don't want to end up wasting my life doing the same thing over and over again but at the same time, I want success. The things I like can't be turned into a job.

      I’m gonna challenge that a bit. Why does it have to be one or the other? Why not both high income and passionate? :) it’s easy for us to fall into “either/or” thinking but the magic is when you tweak that into “and/and” thinking. The options immediately looks different.

    My advice to you guys who aren't sure about what you want to do for your career is, please do not follow your passion. You find what you do well and go for it. Your passion doesn't necessarily mean you are good at it. It is essential to know what you do well compared to others. It will put you in a much better position when you choose your career after college. You will get a chance to pursue your passion when you have a good career. Otherwise, you will continue chasing your passion until your departure from this world. Remember that your life is very short, and you don't have much time to try different careers and become successful in one.
    My other advice is, please try not to choose a college that only offers undecided majors. You often end up with a major not so demanding, and it will make your life much more difficult. If you know what you are good at, and you already got an admission from a college with that major, go for it. Big-name schools usually have undecided majors to attract more students, but your major outweighs in almost all cases.

      ye make a youtube channel and review movies (as passive income, don't make that your priority) while going to school for something with job security. if your youtube channel takes off, and does well (at least 200k subscribers, and 100k views per video) then that will be enough for you to sustain, and THEN you can focus 100% effort on your channel. until then, I suggest getting your physical therapy assistant license (associates degree) or occupational therapist assistant, both are accelerated programs, guaranteed jobs, etc. do that while making your youtube channel

    It's the worst feeling in the world to want to major in something that everyone is constantly tearing down. I've never felt so lost in my life. I have such a passion for wanting to teach and I've wanted to do it all my life. When I was in elementary school I would make a class room of stuffed animals and teach them. All. Day. I gave them all their own papers and crayons and made them turn in assignments. Weird I know. But you see my point. I tried letting it go by taking up social work, but I just don't have the same love for it as I do teaching. I truly do not know what to do with my life at this point, and it's the most unsettling feeling I've ever felt. What advice do you have for someone wanting to go into teaching in this day and age?

    • @Buyitforwife
      @Buyitforwife  8 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      I would say that teaching is something you MUST explore. There is no way around it. I don't know much about your situation so there may be things are preventing you from doing this, but I will say this. When you TRULY know what you want, you are way ahead of the game than many others. The hard part of knowing what to do is taken care of, next is just a matter of logistics. I'd be interested in working with you, if you would be! Let me know.

      Brooklynn Marie pray about it and start with a part time teaching job or see if you can volunteer at a local educational facility. It's actually not uncommon to have doubts, but you have the power to make a career switch when you choose its time. And if teaching is a passion you have invest in actually doing it. If you make immediate action to do what you love you're doubt will lessen when your doing and not just saying or thinking the "what ifs." If anything, "what ifs" feel more the more indecisive you are. Have a passion, pursue it and have a concrete plan (daily, wkly, mo., yearly) and just start. The sooner you do, the more you learn about yourself and build skills and rapport with other educators. That's a mouthful, but take it from someone who let doubt sabotage a good opportunity. What you won't do out of fear, someone will take and run with and succeed. It starts with taking action. Like I said if after being involved you change your mind, girl!! You are in control of your decisions! Just change if necessary, but have finances and a plan in order until your next step.

    Today I had a giant breakthrough in my anatomy and physiology class. Learning about snakes and venom and the symptoms and diagnosis, I felt very comfortable and excited. Then boom it hit me so hard like, I've been telling myself all my life that I hated science because it's "too hard." The first thing I have ever wanted to be was a vet. I was 5 when I said that. I love every type of animal and insect out there. I love learning about everything from what they need to survive, behaviors, how to care for them, to the inner systems and bodily functions. I gave up on it in like middle school because it was too much work. Of course it's a lot of work how else does one survive in this world. And I didn't realize that until today 🤦🏽‍♀️ I just went from wanting to major in music to wanting to major in biology/zoology.

    I’m 22, changed my major 3 times thus far. Went from Music because of my deep passion for guitar & music in general, to Criminal Justice because I had a heavy interest in it for a while, and I thought about becoming a detective. Then that spark died out, and now I’m a Business Administration major, planning to focus on marketing. But guess what, I suck at math🙃 I feel so lost and so down because at this age, most of my high school classmates are already graduating from college this year. And I’m still taking a few classes here and there in community college while trying to decide on a major that I actually want to pursue.
    Because in truth, I’m only doing Business because it seems to be the best option out of the 3 in terms of being able to find a decent job. I’m not necessarily passionate about it.

      @dante3543 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      International relations: you will study some basic economics Micro and Macro, with some policy, so you will apply economic theories rather than just figuring them out.
      Economics: studying economic theory, consumer theory and producer theory, much more than supply and demand. You can definitely take international courses like international economics trade and finance.
      Psychology: studying how the human brain works and how it develops. Focuses on the person, depending on the concentration.
      Computer science: programming and lots of proofs. It teaches you more than coding, it’s a thinking process, and programming, a lot of hands on projects, tedious and some team work.
      Languages: not really sure, I think you are studying the history of the language, it’s people, and try to be fluent in the language.

    • @dante3543
      @dante3543 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These are my two cents, I didn’t go too deep into them, but if you are confused, Economics and CS are good options, and you can double major. Likewise, you can minor in subjects you are interested in. Rule of thumb: best not to major in something that you can learn for free. Complex CS and Econ theories can not be learned without a professor or guidance, but you can learn a new language by moving to another country and immerse yourself in it. University is expensive, so choosing a major based on career prospects is not a bad idea. However, minoring on a subject that you are interested in is a great way to diversify your education. I know you’re pressured, but 5-10 years down the road, job experiences matter way more than majors, but that doesn’t mean your major will never matter. You can be a language major but still have the Econ and CS skills by taking those courses and highlighting them in your resume later, not to mention joining a club that applies those skills. Hope this helps!!!

      A couple things. 1) I don't see any of this as wasting time, instead it's the perfect time to explore, gather experience and skill set and RULE things out that you don't like. It gets you one step closer to where you need to be. You don't have a mortgage or family I presume to tie you down. 2) talk to those already in a career that interests you. Ask them about their job, career progression, their salary etc to get that realistic insight about their job. Final tip, watch my other videos! and download my free ebook :)

    This is a good process for helping determine your college major. Begin by using the process of elimination. Look at a list of the majors. Mark off the majors you know 100% that you do not want to major in. Afterwards, you will have a much shorter list of options. When I did this, I only had one left and that is what I majored in.

      Choose one for now - and choose the one that you know/think that you can do now as opposed to later (eg high risk, hard to do). Specialize in it. And then as time goes on, revisit the rest of the items! Just because you say no to one thing today doesn’t mean you’ll say no to it forever

    • @nkfanning
      @nkfanning 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      101 Mentor wow I’ve never thought of it like that! School has such a way of making you believe that whatever you choose to study is what sets you for the rest of your life... I’ll definitely be taking on that advice and go with what I think I can succeed the most in right now!

      J B what does “social” mean to you? And it’s good you’ve set the bar to $80k. It’s different for everyone but now that you’ve established that, it can act as your anchor. Have you come across a library of jobs that would pay $80k out of college?

    • @FilthyFaux
      @FilthyFaux 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Buyitforwife when I say social I mean a job that is done with others in order to serve others ( major ex. Communications, business, etc.). Also, no I haven't because in the back of my head I feel like picking a major because of future salary is almost immoral and makes me a bad person 😂

    • @Buyitforwife
      @Buyitforwife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      J B I get it but the truth is it only makes you a bad person if you do bad things! It doesn’t mean you have to “whore” yourself out to a job that meets your $80k. It’s just a starting point for you to now do your search (you might discover a role that would be really cool to have or you might find that your $80k isn’t realistic for you - but at least now you know). Your definition of social is quite common and most jobs, as you climb the ladder, becomes more social than technical.

      It’s not an easy process as you probably are experiencing, but that’s an okay start and see where that takes you. You might realize the jobs google shows you aren’t your cup of tea. You might discover an avenue that piques your interest but you still can’t find salary range - here’s your chance to now go after the network of those in that space and connect with them. It’s a process!

I’m unsure if i’d enjoy programming under a company for years, but I might not hate it if it were my own. I like tech because of the idea of making a tech company from scratch. Also, I don’t necessarily need a CS degree to make the company I am looking to make. Only web development. On the contrary if I get a biology degree and end up not going to medical school it’ll be worthless. Also, medical school is another 4 years... When I think of getting a tech degree I feel like i’m killing a dream, which is medicine / healthcare. It is bitter both ways... I can learn tech without a degree though. Hello, I am a Sophomore in College and I am having anxiety attacks over what I want to major in and what to career I would like to have. I have always loved science since high school, but It's not like I was excellent in any science course. I also lettered in community service in high school. I love to help others, but I am incredibly introverted. I wanted to go into genetics, but more time has passed where I don't want to be in school until I'm 30. I want to do something that helps others, I can travel, and doesn't have me in a too communicative position. I went from undeclared pre-med, Film studies, Early childhood education, Biochemistry, and now I have no idea. I finally took college algebra in college ( mathematics and I don't go well) and I worked so hard! I had online tutoring and peer study and I got a D+! I can cry just thinking about it. It's not passing and I will have to retake it or change majors into something else. I am worried. If I can't even pass college algebra, then how can I major in any of the sciences? That's why I'm lost. If you have any suggestions, please help me. I wish volunteer work was paid. I am obsessed with 23&Me and Ancestry. I got my mom, grandmas (2), and dad to do 23&Me and I am currently putting together my family tree. I could do that for hours. I am also insanely organized and I love to organize as well. I get stressed easily because I'm impractical and I can't do the same thing every day. So I've become a grumpy ass because of that, and my own mind refuses important things. Like I I dont have a driver license yet, even though the book is next to me. I dont know what to study in college because I believe everyone I know will judge me by what I choose. I've thought of getting a job, but it could negatively impact my grades . I dont know what college to go to either, but I have to choose soon. All of my family has gone to college and are proffesional so it's full pressure. You may call me immature or lazy, but because of how society wants to shape me I'll say everything is hell.

    I’m really hard-working person and quick learner I do good in all subjects and could do good in any major too , the only thing is I’m not interested in any major i don’t hate them but I don’t like them ether so it’s really makes me uncomfortable and stressed all the time because I don’t know what to do with collage or should i even go to college , i have to decide what to do and what major to go this year - i have only 11 months and I’ve been reading and listening and watching everything form all majors and stuff and literally I have nothing , not interested or inspired or anything

    Hi! I like that you are active on your channel and reply to comments, even years after post! I am going to be a senior in HS and don’t know what to do- I do know business. I live in a fairly small town and the closest “big city” to me is 8 hours away. But my dream job is to be a talent agent for the music industry! I have always been intrigued with record label troubles and signings and would absolutely love aiding a person to prevent that from happening - ie the cases of JoJo and Rita Ora. Anyway, at a nearby uni there is an entertainment business degree that focuses on the music industry! But, my parents want me to generalize a bit more, and go the PR route. I want a job I like, but I don’t want to be irrational. I don’t want to be this small town girl that decides I don’t want to be in a big city once I’m already there. The program entertainment business has many cool perks of being apart of it- and that is a big appeal for me like the Anaheim trade show conference and cool internships. But in the end, PR would give me more options.. I just don’t know.

      hey that's awesome and glad to hear you're with me all these years ;) The good news in your situation is that you have a good idea of what direction you want to go. i think what would be the next best step would be to really dive deeper into talent agencies - go find the ones either near you or ones that are recognized by you and go out and connect with people working there to get a better idea of what they do, the education you need, etc. use this as a fact-finding exercise and show your parents the progress and plan so that they can help support you or give you better guidance with this new information. keep me posted and you know where to find me if you need me!

      101 Mentor yes! I have tried to look online to see if there is anyone out there that I could speak to. With everything going on with coronavirus, it is hard for me to travel downstate hours away to see if I could speak to someone. I do feel very passionate about the music industry but like you said in the video I don’t know if it has as much career value since it’s pretty focused in comparison to other business degrees. I guess that business degrees correlate pretty well and are pretty flexible for future jobs... but to have an entertainment business degree trying to be something else “business-ey” in a smaller town, I’m not sure if that would be looked down upon! It just seems pretty far reach! the program’s professor has told me that most of the graduates go into managerial positions, which I wouldn’t mind. I just know that I would enjoy college more with this degree. I don’t want to get that entertainment business degree and feel strapped into “I have to be a talent agent now” sort of thing, even though it is my dream! And that was another point you made in the video! I could switch jobs after the fact.. in the end people would take experience in positions and social ability over what major you had I think..

    I'm my first year of architecture college and I like it but I love design too and I have friends who do design and they tell me their major and I love everything I hear. I chose architecture because it takes logic, creativy and critical thinking and I love that. Design doesn't have the same logic as architecture because you don't design a real house but a poster. It's orientated to sales and mass media more than sales and construction. But both of them have something in common. I love both and I don't know what to do. I also love challenges that is why I went to architecture.

    I was majoring in nutrition and food science but I did my research and my nutrition teachers would unintentional admit that it pays low, and they do the same thing every day. Some would even say they'd wish they've chosen a different career path in college. So I whiched to nursing but I am not sure I want to major in it. I just decided that because since it's also a health science like nutrition i would not have to take extra classes. I do like learning about health and different medical equipments to help people be healthier and live life, but I am not really feeling like studying nursing and make it a career; and also bc some many people are doing the nursing program that it is so competitive. My dad has his own business in selling and renting medical equipment and I have seen him in action and I have even did so deliveries and sells too. I never tooken a business class at college but I was thinking that I should. I was thinking about combining what I learned in my health classes and with my dad and make our business better.

    Nice video! I'm done with my first year of civil engineering, but I don't know if this is really for me. I chose it because I'm very good at mathematics and to get a good base education. My further goal would be to become a manager, solve problems, grow out a business... I really like doing math and solving open math problems. but what I've noticed is that civil engeneering becomes very specific very quickly, and I don't like the technical part of it. On the other hand, I'm very passionate about medical school, more specifically the psychological and neurological part and the fact that you can both fysically and mentally help people. But in Highschool I barely had to study, so I didn't and I don't know if I can manage to get the dicipline to learn everything out of my head (the part I don't like) for medical school, instead of learning to understanding it with engineering, which is way easier for me. I'm really lost atm, I would be so glad if you could help! Thanks in advance

      Thanks for your comment! Without talking to you to know your specific situation, my advice is limited. Have you talked to any civil engineers? It might be a good starting point. Interesting you want to be a doctor, it is different from management. There's a lot of info here we could explore and really figure this out through my mentoring services. If you're interested, email me info@101mentoring.com but no pressure :) it's important to work this out but I think a good first step is to talk to a civil engineer! I also have another video on how to get a engineering job you might be interested in it just to give you some other perspective before you move onto another area of study. Good luck!

    • @Buyitforwife
      @Buyitforwife  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Elliott Malone as a skillset they go great together. But as a combined major, it could dilute things or put candidates in that category of not being strong in either major.

    Thank you for this video, but I'm still kind of lost. I have a problem where pretty much all the majors I'm interested in are average or low paying and I'm not really that good at many things. Last semester I was a food science major but I was pretty terrible at it and if I want more job options I'd need a masters and there aren't as many jobs available compared to other majors.
    I'm considering Information Systems since it's a combination of both business and technology and so it would give me more career paths if I end up hating one of the two, but I've been leaning more towards the technology side. It's better than food science in almost every category except that it's less interesting to me.
    My ultimate ideal job is to be a 3D artist and there are a decent amount of jobs available but I'm still unsure what to get a major in as my day job...
    This would be so much easier if I didn't have this brain fog all the time...

      Look for jobs you would apply for today, as if you’re starting your career tomorrow. Once you found those, then look at their qualification requirements and work backwards to the major and education requirements

Iam little worried if the masters degree in Law will help me to find me a job. I feel that it maybe worthless to get a degree in Law if I don't go to actual law school. But I love studying law. Hi! I'm Vanessa, a sophomore in high school. I know I shouldn't really be worrying about what I want to do, but I am. When I read and learn about medicine, it fascinates me. I could read something once and remember it. I love to learn, and I've been doing research over all of the careers in medicine. I struggle between the choices because of the pros and cons. I am determined to go 8 years of schooling if it's worth it. I also would like a little time to myself though, so I'm not sure being a Surgeon would be the perfect fit. Surgery is one thing that really appeals to me. Being a female, it makes it difficult going into being a doctor or surgeon in the sense of family life. I would like a somewhat balanced lifestyle but I would like one in medicine. Seems like I'm asking for a lot. I'm not one who settles for less, and I usually play the role of a leader. Maybe you can help? I would appreciate it a lot!

      Vanessa Gaddis yes find some time with a doctor and essentially interview him or her to ask them what life of a doctor is like, let alone a surgeon. Work life balance is not easy to maintain as a doctor but for some, work is life!

    I want to be a musician, but I have yet to create a commercial (sellable) song, so my parents want me to either go to college, get a job, or get out of their house, so I've decided I'm probably going to major in computer science, since apparently music degrees are worthless. It's better than wasting time at a job that I hate while I could be spending time working on my music or learning about things I'm interested in, I figure. It's also fairly easy to make money as a software developer in this day and age, so money shouldn't be too much of an issue after college.
