Always loved those big Oldsmobiles. I had a ‘76 88 for 13 years. Came stock with a 350 and it wasn’t enough. So I built a 455 and put it in there, performance jumped dramatically but surprisingly the gas mileage didn’t change.

I have a 71 with 14,000 original miles and - just as your vid clearly demonstrates - BIG GIRL CAN MOVE! Lotta fun to drive this car & it’s actually easier to maneuver than you’d imagine!

Yeah it was about style, power and comfort. Not too sure gas mileage was quite on the radar yet in 72, but real close at that point!

Olds V8's were renowned for being torque monsters. The blocks also had a higher nickle content from what I have read that made them last longer. All I can say is the 455 in a 72 Delta 88 I knew of went for 297,000 miles without ever having to be opened up.

The seats are wrong for a 72. They've been replaced with the floating pillow Regency seats, pulled from either a 75 or 76 98. In 72, the only car that had that seat was the 75th Anniversary 98. In 1973, the Regency became its own trim, but seats were done in a sheen-like Onata cloth. In 74 more colors were added, in the velour fabric. In 75 and 76, the blue velour seats in this car were offered on the 98 Regency coupe and sedan.

@@christianbugatticg I’m looking for a 72-76 -- 98 Regency coupe with low miles. It’s because of my childhood (that’s what my folks bought) and in my opinion the 98 was the best of all GM cars--even better than Cadillac! My Dad said so many times and proved it with these beauties. This fooled me days ago as I saw the pillow tuffed seats and I thought it was a Regency but then I realized and saw in the video that somebody had placed the seats in later. But the mileage is what I am very surprised and intrigued about and it appears that the undercarriage and everything is in very good condition. However I would have to spend some money on a few things you mentioned because when I buy these older ones I try to get everything in oem shape and working. Yes that exhaust in the rear must go. Why on earth? Smh. Now the rest is nice. Btw 72 was the first year of the Regency and pillow tuff seats and it shocked Cadillac and Buick Electra to bits! The LS was the top of the line 98 until the Regency. Was this the LS and then velour seats added? I looked on your link and signed up but no new bids. I saw the highest bid as of 630 am Sunday. Anyway these Youngins do not understand these 455 engines and would be shocked to know just how good they truly are and yes the torque is absolutely amazing. Plus on the 72 the emission controls had not yet all kicked in (damn communists in government already then as my Grandfather use to say) and there was at least 250 hp on this big car and that was a lot for a car that weighed almost 5000 pounds! There now I probably under cut myself and sold your car for you with all that I just said! Lol.

IF you can find one of these in the Mid west they’re going to be loaded with rust. These cars rusted out if you breathed on it. So no, they’re not all over the country at every estate sale. Sheesh!
