    Pretty fair review. I have had an X1D II since release, and have shot the GFX 50R pretty extensively as well. I find that the ergonomics are a mixed bag- the touchscreen is great, but having a physical control point like a joystick would make positioning AF points easier in certain cases (e.g., when using a hand strap, my thumb can't really make it all the way across the screen, and I find it tricky to re-center the AF point). A new firmware (which I haven't yet installed) came out this week, and it seems to be stability-focused according to the release notes, which is great- I've had a number of lockups that have necessitated taking the battery out. Battery life on this camera isn't great, but with USB charging, I don't mind it as much. Still, for an upcoming workshop I'm attending, I think I'll need 3 batteries to feel comfortable.
    The EVF is outstanding- probably the best I've used. Autofocus really isn't great, even next to a GFX 50R. It totally falls apart in backlit scenes, and in low light (e.g., shooting in studio), it works best with the built-in AF illuminator activated. Lack of Capture One compatibility kind of blows- while Phocus has come a long way, there are so many great things about the broader Capture One ecosystem (presets, LUTs, plugins, etc.) at this point that it can't really compare.
    The lenses are crazy great- I got a great deal on the 90/3.2, and later bought an 80/1.9, and assumed that I would dump the 90mm at that point. Instead, I kept both, because the weight difference is quite substantial, and the 90mm is actually still really perfect as a walkaround short tele lens if you don't need the faster aperture. The 45mm is a featherweight and my choice for general walkaround/travel stuff- I have nothing at all negative to say about the optics. I also have the 30mm and 120mm Macro, and they're great, but I haven't used them as much yet. The Fuji lenses are pretty sweet too, though- especially the 110/2, which is right up there with the 80/1.9 in quality at half the price, and the 32-64mm zoom, which again undercuts Hasselblad's new normal zoom by half. Because of the focal plane shutter, of course, adapting lenses to the Fuji is a lot easier.
    All in all, it's a quirky beast, but I don't regret getting the Hasselblad. The leaf shutter remains the biggest selling point for me over the Fuji system.

    I sold all my Fujifilm gear and bought the X1D II. The ergonomics, user interface and optics (i.e. colors) are so much better. This is a much lighter camera system (I have a bad back) that inspires me to go out and create.

    Thanks for the vid/review -- as Nikon Shooter for over 45 years and the proud owner of all their latest products, my choice to buy the X1D-II and 5 lenses 3 weeks ago was in part to step away from what I know to a new way of shooting. The X1D-II requires you to take more time, to spend time composing the shot and lights and then taking only a few exposures. No more 14 fps/10 fps lighting AF for action and extraordinary low light capabilities. With the X1D-II one shoots primarily static subjects -- and you get fantastic 16-bit images. Yes the D850 is awesome for a DSLR, so is the Z7 -- but the images from X1D are just "smoother", colour rendering of the fff RAW files in Phocus is truly awesome.
    The X1D-II uses a very similar sensor to the H6D-50C -- same size and same quoted performance -- so it gives you in a relatively small body access to the full benefits of Medium Format Digital.
    Who is the camera for -- enthusiasts and pros wanting to get into MF without busting the bank -- the X1D-II is a lifestyle product. Given the quality of the output, of course it can be used by pros -- but a true pro (at least the ones I know) would ultimately go for the H6D-100c or Phase One. A true pro should be able to access and make full use of the H6D and the HC lenses.
    X1D plus lenses (excluding super teles) cost roughly double to three times the cost of my D850 plus lenses. But the X1D is 1/4 - 1/6th of the cost of H6D plus lenses - depending on the back. So as an entry level MF it has a role. That said you can pick up a H5D-50c and used HC lenses for about the same price as a new X1D-II and lenses.

    Thanks, good video. Although Sony makes both this sensor and the sensor inside the GFX 50s, they are not the same sensor. They are calibrated and designed quite differently and the photos they produce dont look anything alike . The same way the Sony sensors that go in Nikon cameras dont produce the same images they do in Sony cameras. The Hasselblad is considerably better IMO and its only $700 more than the GFX 50s.

    Nice quick review - I have two - one for spare - 4 lenses and I shoot portraits and weddings - the issues you didn't mention. Flash compatibility - basically there is none. There is but is so highly convoluted and relies on some but not all Nikon flashguns to make it work. And yes I know Profoto make a flashgun but I tried it and it is far too big for real world use. I use Elinchrom ELB 1200's in my studio and on location and it sort of works but there should be a dedicated flash infrastructure in play for this other than Broncolor and there isn't ; so I have to guess first and then tweak from there. The Eli's work only really as a trigger which is fine for most and me but for some reason I just think its slightly snobbish of Hass to assume we can all afford Broncolor and a crew of eight to cart it all around and set it up and if we could we would be probably using an H6 or a Phase One anyway.. And then there is the rolling shutter effect on the electronic shutter. It's so awful it can't be used for anything which isn't dead or moving, although. HOWEVER all of the rest makes it all sooooo worthwhile - the colour rendition is off the charts - the sharpness at all apertures is unbelievable - the portability is beyond compare and of course you do get flash sync at ALL speeds so think of it as HSS built into the lens really - I was a Fuji lecturer and fanboy for years but the GFX is just too heavy and cumbersome and really is not all that good when a proper real world comparison is made - and yes I could afford the 100mpx version but that's even bigger and heavier. In the old days we would buy the cheapest camera we could set our eyes on and the most expensive lenses we could afford - and spend the rest of our beer money on film. Now we have to rethink that, especially as it seems there's a new camera arriving within our sphere every five minutes and all with seemingly overly complex backends in place (or not) to make it work. And the Fuji's are hopeless in LR. I am sticking with my system. I will be buying the new Hass 907X later in order to be able to truly re-create my MF waistelvel portraits as I once did - the two combined will be a very powerful system. I am running out of children to sell though.....

    2:30 with only lens maximum aperture on mind, most Sigma art lenses will fully cover the sensors on both this Hasselblad as well as the Fuji GFX series. With those, you could go as far as to use Sigma's 105mm f/1.4 lens which is really just an exercise in hyperbole. Lol...
    Also, quite a few telephoto lenses in general will cover this sensor. I have a friend who uses an old Nikon 105mm f/2.5 with his original Hasselblad X1D and the colors+ gorgeous OOF areas that he gets out of camera are just to die for.

  • @chrislonardo
    @chrislonardo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The GFX is better in a few key ways, but the leaf shutter is what made me get the Hasselblad. You just lose so much power with high speed sync that it doesn’t really compare. With the leaf shutter in the X1D II, I can use much smaller and lighter lighting gear in my location kit, and that’s worth it to me.
    A new firmware came out the other day (1.1.0), but after 3,500 photos with prior firmwares, I’ve seen about 3-4 lockups, and one image that was corrupt when written to both cards. Autofocus (especially on the 80/1.9) is a sad joke for a 2019 release. The touch UI is nice, but lack of physical control points makes it difficult to center the AF point, or to move it under certain circumstances (e.g., when using a hand strap on the grip). Battery life is only about 250 shots on a charge, but USB charging is quite nice (and only offered by by Fuji on the GFX 100 so far)

Obviously the craftsmanship and the aesthetics are superior to other brands. I just feel it's missing a few things that are considered standard in the tech / spec side of things.
    I don't expect it to be hybrid camera. But if I have to carry another camera around to shoot basic video after spending $9,000, the jokes on me. I love the heritage, history and the standard of excellence of Hasselblad.

      Martijn Baudoin , sorry my images or not online. Using X-Pan aspect ratio in the X1D is just a cropping of the normal image, that takes place when opening the file in the Phocus software. The entire sensor image remains present in the file and you are able to correct your crop framing in Phocus or even change the aspect ratio.
      I often use the X-Pan ratio and 1:1 ratio with the Nikkor fish eye zoom, that can be set to give a 180 degrees full frame square format.
      I never use the upper ISO/WB button of the X1D (I use the touchscreen) and I have assigned this button to crop formats setting. So I have just to push this button when framing to scroll through the different X1D formats.

      @** Actually I use it with pentax and hasselblad v lenses. It works great!

    I dunno it's cool but digital photography is just kinda boring for me. Boy that lens though! Wish Hassy would rock a new film back to work with modern lenses because whoa.

    It’s a luxury item period hands down. I don’t see in what world it’s ok to say “yeah I can justify this $10K body and lens because I ‘make money from photography’” but hey that’s just me. It’s a rich person’s camera, bottom line.

      Andy Pham The same way people justify buying brand new luxury cars. That ain’t me, but hey, I say do what makes ya happy. 👍🏻

    • @mika2666
      @mika2666 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it's a luxury item, if you're a pro photographer you're probably better off with a Sony, Nikon or Canon high resolution full frame sensor (budget under 10k). Maybe a Fuji gfx 100 for higher budget and hasselblad 100c for really high budget photographers.

    Blad must be taking the p1$$. without seeing the results in person I would have to say that it’s over priced. Seeing as most of today’s cameras are about software

  • @vadimyakus
    @vadimyakus 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why all the reviews start with such bull shit topics as ergonomics, looks, color and weight? Who the hell cares? All I need from my fucking camera is PERFORMANCE! Everything else is just marketing... Great performance (if it is the case here) + shutter leaf lenses is a win-win situation for me. Definitely moving from full frame to a medium format ASAP and this camera is already on my list.

    Rip off with bad performance. Buy the GFX 50R and a Fuji lens.

    • @crinosil
      @crinosil 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      KO Bossy ripoff??? The X1D came out 12 months before the Fujifilm GFX 50s...so who ripped who off??

    • @pabdiary
      @pabdiary 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Silvestro Crino a rip off is a bad money deal.

    • @crinosil
      @crinosil 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      KO Bossy ... actually definition of rip off can mean either
      a fraud or swindle, especially something that is grossly overpriced
      and
      an inferior imitation of something
      In the case of the X1D Mark II neither definition hold true.... the build quality of the X1D body and lenses is easily twice as good as either of the 50mpix GFXs.... and I already established Fujifilm is the poor imitator when it comes to using this sensor ....

    • @pabdiary
      @pabdiary 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Silvestro Crino it's a rip off.

    • @alvareo92
      @alvareo92 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As he mentions the build quality is way better on the Hasselblad, that’s where your money is going. Not a ripoff

    You're reparative with a lot of your points,sometimes 3-4 times in a row. Just remove it in post, because when you do it, it seems like your really trying to press that point. And it's a little annoying. Other than that enjoyable. Thanks.
