I lived a block away from muscle beach for about a year. It was both fascinating and terrifying, especially on the weekends when everyone in south central LA would invade. Besides the bicycle path, one of the neatest things about the area are the rather talented performers who perform for your tips. The chainsaw juggler was kind of interesting, and there are magicians and other "artists".
Muscle beach is a hoot! What cracks me up when I’m there are the guys showing off (often for each other) and the guys who look like they’ve been working on their tans since Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon did their movies in the 1960s.
I must have missed something as I was nodding my head at the various oddities around Venice. Bicycle paths are weird? That's like the most mundane part of the whole place.

A friend of mine went to Ireland for seven day. Five of those days it rained. The other two, it poured. When he came back to Toronto he told me, "Now I know why your ancestors left". However, I was in Ireland last month for four days. We got ten minutes of rain. My wife said, "We brought the lovely Canadian weather with us". I added, "Good thing we didn't come in January".

I lived on Ocean Front Walk in a second story apartment overlooking it for a couple years in 92 93. Right across from the Sidewalk Cafe. If you live there for that length of time you will have many, many crazy stories. We had this "Tarot Card Man" dude who'd set up shop just below my place. I had parties where there'd be a bunch of idiots hungover at my place on Sunday morning. So one such morning a buddy took a guitar, opened our huge bay window, and started singing "Tarot Card Man!" to him as he plied his trade. At first he was really pissed. But eventually, over time, we all became friends, and we would go drinking at the Circle Bar in Venice. So there was chalkboard to wait to play pool. Tarot Card Man was not big, but he had balls. This was a biker bar. He went to the chalkboard, erased all his names, and wrote his on top. Of course, some one got pissed and started a fight. Tarot Card Man knocked him out - I mean out - in ONE PUNCH.
Awwww I wish I would have known u were in LA....I could have given you guys the 50 cent tour. Studios, Hollywood history and maybe see a star or two. Next time!!!
A weird thing to me is that they call the whole area the beach, not just the sandy bit. To me a beach is the sandy stuff next to the water, not the area near it.

I lived on Ocean Front Walk in a second story apartment overlooking it for a couple years in 92 93. Right across from the Sidewalk Cafe. If you live there for that length of time you will have many, many crazy stories. We had this "Tarot Card Man" dude who'd set up shop just below my place. I had parties where there'd be a bunch of idiots hungover at my place on Sunday morning. So one such morning a buddy took a guitar, opened our huge bay window, and started singing "Tarot Card Man!" to him as he plied his trade. At first he was really pissed. But eventually, over time, we all became friends, and we would go drinking at the Circle Bar in Venice. So there was chalkboard to wait to play pool. Tarot Card Man was not big, but he had balls. This was a biker bar. He went to the chalkboard, erased all his names, and wrote his on top. Of course, some one got pissed and started a fight. Tarot Card Man knocked him out - I mean out - in ONE PUNCH.
And to think... Venice is a LOT more tame than it used to be 😂

A weird thing to me is that they call the whole area the beach, not just the sandy bit. To me a beach is the sandy stuff next to the water, not the area near it.
Sometimes I almost miss living in LA. But then I think more about it. Also, when I used to have an iguana, we just let him hang out wherever he wanted in the house.
