- On April 18, 2004, Cpl. Jason L. Dunham gave his life shielding his fellow Marines from a grenade. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his selfless actions. Ten years later, his legendary actions live on.

Corporal Dunham will never be forgotten in our family you see my son served with him and they were great friends and my son was blessed with the blessing I've name meaning his son after Corporal Dunham my grandson's name is Dunham and everyday Corporal Dunham is thought of and my grandson knows who Corporal Dunham is you see Corporal Dunham's picture Hangs in my grandson's bedroom and different pictures that my son has of Corporal Dunham are held very close and dear to his heart my heart breaks for the Dunham's Loss but Jason meant so much to my son I can't even think of the words I just now that it killed my son to lose Corporal Dunham that day a part of my son died that day also when my son became a recruiter he bought every one of his recruits the book a gift of Valor for all of them to read and to know about Corporal Dunham I know the street in heaven is protected by Jason and I know his family misses him so just like his fellow brothers of 3/7 rest in peace and know that you are loved and missed dearly and you are never forgotten and in our family you will live forever God bless the Marines that served with him and two are currently serving God bless the Dunham family much love

I am a combat Marine, was ready to protect my fellow Leathernecks, and I am sure they were willing to do the same, but now I live among selfish civilians, no loyalty, backstabbers, money hungry and with a sense of entitlement and it is incredible that Jason and many have giving their lives for cretins like the ones I just mentioned living in the USA...
I never served, but I have always tried to life up to the idea of what this nation was suppose to be about, but after 49 years, of seeing the civilians you speak about above, and the loses they have inflicted upon my life, I have realized I claim to be a citizen of a nation that died a long time ago. I have reach to point that I am just marking days until I die, and I am actually looking forward to that day.

There's a reason that he was there few, the proud, he was a Marine. He went out there when no one else would, he did something nobody else had the guts to do, when it came down to that final moment, he decided he'd pay the ultimate sacrafice when everyone else wouldn't.

"In an ultimate and selfless act of bravery in which he was mortally wounded, he saved the lives of at least two fellow Marines. By his undaunted courage, intrepid fighting spirit, and unwavering devotion to duty, Corporal Jason Dunham gallantly gave his life for his country, thereby reflecting great credit upon himself and upholding the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service. "
He was fighting hand to hand with an insurgent, the insurgent pulled the pin on the grenade and dropped it on the ground. There were two other Marines within the kill radius. Jason had two choices either continue fighting the insurgent and let them all die or jump on the grenade and protect the other two Marines. In the split second he had to make this decision he jumped on the grenade and smothered the blast to save the other two Marines. The insurgent lived as well, after being knocked down by the blast he got up and ran away when the other two Marines gunned him down and killed him. Jason fought for ten days after the incident before he finally succumbed to his wounds.
