Hey! Have you ever considered doing something like "This expansion's content in review"? Like, "This year's Dungeons in review" or "This year's Raids in review". If the idea is popular, it could maybe even expand to something like Seasons in Review or Trials in Review. I'd like to see your take on different pieces of content overall. The ways they changed over time, how well each piece performed its function, whether you felt that the changes were positive or a setback, etc. Just an idea.
I've been going nuts watching everyone else review this gun and approaching recoil direction as if the old system was still in place. Some even mention the deterministic recoil system and *still* rate the barrel perks based purely on the quantity of recoil direction stat they add, without actually testing the patterns. Even though it's been understood for quite a while now that the effect of the recoil stat varies wildly from weapon to weapon with deterministic recoil. You can't just slap on Arrowhead and get The Number as big as you can and assume it's actually improving the weapon anymore. Quite the contrary - that 95 recoil direction might well be WORSE than a base 65, depending on the gun! I knew I could count on CoolGuy to actually do this testing properly, and he did *not* disappoint. I for one am sticking with my base 65 recoil for Blast Furnace and enjoying the opportunity to juice up my other stats instead.
I really dislike the new system. There’s a number of guns where I cannot get the recoil to a pattern I like or want to use. I don’t feel it makes me get better with the guns, it just makes me not want to use certain guns at all as I’ve got alternatives without deterministic recoil.
The way I see it, as much as I don't like the change it's a balancing slider now. Instead of giving a rapid fire weapon a low recoil that ends in a weird number like 47 so it always has some left or right sway they've now made it so if a weapon is out of band for one way or another they can tweak the deterministic recoil without even having to change the stats. Whether you like it or not when guns like summoner come out with its... "anti bloom" that makes it a laser with sustained fire just built in, if it becomes too powerful they have a balance option that doesn't make it feel significantly worse but brings it more in line. Bungie doesn't have a good track record balancing in pvp considering certain exotics have gotten little changes and remained either best in slot for the perk alone (no need for build crafting but builds can make it stronger) or had way too much ease of use with no ttk tradeoff and that goes for armor and weapons but they're bringing skill back to crucible right? We'll just have to wait and see how this recoil thing goes
Thank you for being one of the few creators to really get deep with the recoil. Ever since Deterministic Recoil I've been trying each weapon with different combinations doing the same thing (shooting at a wall) since they came out and I'm glad my conclusion wasn't wrong. 100 is the base recoil but tighter but in terms of direction, 65 is just as good and based on what barrels you have you could opt to slap on more range instead. Definitely doesn't require 100 (I'm so glad we're in this recoil meta lol). Got a Shiny with Kinetic T/Headseeker + Firefly/Desperate Measures. Sits at a 86 range and 86 stability with a Reload MW and Flared magwell making it perfectly fine when reloading with no help from anything else. But more importantly I've been rocking this in both PvE and PvP and it's been fun in both. KT + Firefly or DM for PvE (DM increases KT damage too) and Headseeker +....well honestly either roll but I've liked DM. It may just be 10% off a kill but thats still enough to add a little bit of forgiveness.
I did the exact same thing after completing the quest. Sat in a private match shooting a wall and wondering to myself how this system is supposed to be an improvement over the classic recoil direction system. At least before it made sense lol.

This is one of thr only archetypes where I go max stability if possible. But also keep in mind enhanced zen moment gives plus 5 stability so some of these perks will get even better. I think my headseeker kill clip roll is my favorite but the best feeling roll I have is headseeker frenzy with 99 stability which will turn into 100 stability when enhanced. Max stability makes the bursts you fire much more together and it makes for easier kills. I've tried to go more range route but I didn't feel much of a difference to kill wise but i can tell going more into range hurts the control of the gun and makes you have to put more work into all headshots
That was the first roll that dropped for me and this may be just my imagination, but I feel like it competes with an LMG unless I can hit a weakpoint - like a Brig before its face falls off for example. Such a nice perk combination. KT alone already brings a lot of damage but Frenzy on top of that makes any weapon feel nice, along with adding a wee bit of extra damage.
Also Ill throw up Desperate Measures as it too will increase the KT damage and KT shockwaves will refresh DM. Some people still think you need to get a kill with the weapon first before stacking the other buffs. What the perk does is gives x1 stack with weapon kills and refreshes the buff (at any stack) on weapon kills. It will grant you x2 DM when you get a melee (powered or unpowered) or grenade kill. A 2nd kill with a melee or grenade will grant x3. What that means is you can start an encounter by throwing your melee or grenade into 2+ enemies and that will give you x3. If you've got lingering grenades for example, if you only kill 1 enemy, the 2nd enemy that walks into that and dies will give you that x3. So you only realistically need 2 kills to get x3 as long as it's with your grenade or melee (powered or unpowered). Then you just keep that buff as long as you get kills with the Blast Furnace itself or with KT.
I've been waiting for your video on Blast Furnace specifically to see your take on the recoil direction. I spent some time in a private match myself when the weapon dropped and was thinking surely it can't be right that literally anything other than base 65 and 100 was markedly worse but here we are. I honestly thought maybe mine was bugged lol.
I've been testing out a few different rolls. Zen/kc, hs/rapid and Zen/rapid. I forgot which one I was using, at times I thought I had on a damage perk. To my surprise I had already put on 100 kills with the Zen/rapid within a few games. Really impressed with the gun overall.
I’ll have to give my Blast Furnace another chance, I was still hunting for something else, since I have that fluted, accurized, perpetual, kill clip, stabile masterwork roll. 😅
I hope this is foreshadowing for old and new Black Armory weapons and gear to return. Sure, the forges are gone, but there’s a number of ways the writers could bring them back to bring back the armory.
I hope youre taking care of your health and mental health first and foremost brother. Got a zen moment firefly with 86 range roll and MY GOD it feels good, 15 kills with it the first match of crucible I went in with it, likely because I had a huge stability as well.
Bungie didn't like giving us the Recoil stat because it meant we kept using the same barrels for everything, so they made it pointless by introducing "deterministic recoil" in order to force players to test recoil patterns again and find the specific recoil stat that each individual weapon performs best with. I hate it.
I love it. There's no 1 right answer of the "If it doesnt have arrow head then trash it" kind of mentality we had before it. More options are always better imo,
@@ROFLWAFFLELAWL4 Dude, people were throwing Arrowhead on weapons that had 100 base recoil. The playerbase doesn't know what's good or not if someone else doesn't tell them what to use. What I hate about the new system is that it makes the Recoil stat completely meaningless at best, and outright lying at worst. That little wedge that moves around/shrinks when you change the Recoil stat has no purpose anymore.
It gives more customisable options "dont like the recoil? Change the stat and see what happens according to your need" it's also a skill like csgo to memorize recoil patterns
My favorite pve roll on this weapon so far is arrow head, accurrized rounds, ktremors, firefly, with reload masterwork got that one and it's probably my go too pve pulse right now and with the tfs giving pulses a chunky 38% dmg bonus this very well could be a top contender for pve kprimary Mark my words tho when fatebringer (timelost) becomes enhancable at some point with a brand new origin trait ot will be king of pve handcannons
Pulses really do need a little damage buff in PVE. was running Veles-X on my Gyrfalcon Hunter because it took forever for Collective Obligation to drop. It felt like I was struggling to do any sort of work in any sort of content with Veles, (especially GM’s), but as soon as I got Collective I was finally living free, even without using the exotic trait. That 15% extra damage to red bars makes all the difference
For me, Headseeker + Kill Clip in PvP. I have KinTrem + Rampage for PvE but it's not popping off even with anti-barrier pulse. With 8.0.5 when we can focus Brave weapons with Zavala, I'm going for KinTrem + OneForAll
I love my dad rifles lmaoo. Interested to try it out. I’m not sure it would stack up against all my others, but Id love to be pleasantly surprised! I REALLY appreciate the recoil insights, as with these guns the FEEL is a lot more important than perfect rolls. My Cold Denial and Psi Hermetic V are some of my top used guns.
I attuned this weapon and did 1 run of onslaught and got a shiny with fluted, accurized, kinetic tremors or headseeker and one for all or desperate measures with a handling masterwork. I got super lucky. Some of these weapons are so easy to get a shiny one then others are nearly impossible.
I've got a KT + Firefly non-shiny that I've locked and have already used fairly often. The ability to have both a perk for yellow/orange bars AND a perk for red bars? Yeah. It's nice. Having BOTH of those options means it's a swiss army knife. Is it ever going to be the best?... no. No, of course not. BUT it's always going to be a GOOD option, no matter the content. And honestly, that's all I care about. It's the mortar holding together the bricks of a build, particularly if it's going to handle champions or the times when abilities aren't up.
Agreed. I'm not a fan, so far. It feels like there's no consistent logic to it and it makes the recoil-improving barrels much less useful. Why would I consider Chambered Compensator when it just gives me a differenly terrible recoil pattern?
@@christianglassel9950 There is some logic to it. Before recoil direction was more about spread, with Deterministic recoil its much more about the actual direction. So with the Blast Furnace the 65 base recoil directionally is straight up and you can see this with the bursts following the first. at 100 it's still the same direction but tightens it up, like shown in the video. The other recoils though? They turn that recoil cone left or right, pulling the recoil of that weapon to either direction. Fang of Ir Yut is a good example of a weapon with Determinstic Recoil that has HORRIBLE base recoil direction and needs help, otherwise the recoil kicks almost completely horizontally lol.
I have 16 golds of blast furnace. Every double trait damage combinations like head seeker kill clip/desperate with good barrels and mag options for either 65 recoil or 100. But for the life of me I can’t get the most neesh role I want for a chromatic fire build which is head seeker firefly. Literally something so specific I can’t even get a terrible role of that.
With the upcomming pulse rifle buff I'd say its worth it for pve both hung jury and blast furnace should have kinetic one fot all as these are the most used anti champion guns, and it would free up an exotic slot
I've been playing with it, it's good, but Elsie's is next level. First match I had with my Zen Moment/Head seeker roll I went 25-0. That weapon is built different lol.
People sleep on Kinetic Tremors on pulse rifles in PvP. If you are like me and have mediocre aim, then you’ll likely have to land an additional burst on enemy players fairly often. It only takes one extra burst on any pulse rifle type except high impacts to activate KT. I view it like Malfeasance. The fastest TTK won’t activate the perk, but if you missed the ideal TTK, clean ups are very easy.
I have 4 BF's: KT/OfA, KT/FF, ZM/RH and HS/KC, haven't tried this thing in pvp yet but will do so soon. Now for pve I have been using this and honestly it puts in work even at waves 40-50, I'm not sure I agree about it not being great for pve though. It's a workhorse of a PR, and compared to other legendary pulses this thing has been treating me right. I never liked high impacts, lightweights or even adaptive frames but I do love me an aggressive or rapid fire frame when it comes to PR's so I'll admit I'm biased there.
With every review, of a weapon that shows off the recoil pattern, deterministic recoil actually makes it MORE DIFFICULT to know what your gun is goin to do tied to the stats, and it’s one of the worst things they’ve ever done to guns, used to be the higher the better but now there is a big ol asterisk based on the weapon Legendary pulses in pve are pretty good tho, nit quite sure what you’re talking about there, like it’s the only primary i ever use, and they dont rlly struggle even in gm content, sure they could always do a lil bit more many gun archetypes feel that way, especially scouts
I despise that Zen moment and rapid hit aren't swapped in their columns. The perk roll I so desperately wanted was Headseeker + Zen (yes I know it's on other pulses but I don't have this roll on any except Syncopation, which can't 2 burst)
KT + OfA in Onslaught is soooooo good, you destroy the Waves with the bumped up KT Damage. Hopefully i get this roll again as a shiny Roll. 95% i get Snapshot + Kill Clip......i dont want this roll anymore, but Bungie is tormenting me ^^
I think it’s funny that you can get 99 Range and 99 Stability with this weapon. With Hammer-Forged alone, you get 99 Range. To get 99 Stability, you need Polygonal, Steady Rounds, _and_ a Stability Masterwork.
Thank you for watching! I plan to rank the brave weapons in a video, but anything else you interested in ?

Max stability makes the bursts you fire much more together and it makes for easier kills. I've tried to go more range route but I didn't feel much of a difference to kill wise but i can tell going more into range hurts the control of the gun and makes you have to put more work into all headshots
Awesome review. (Also, thanks for going back to the old format)
Kinetic tremors frenzy is something I 100% recommend. It was my second roll and it shreds legendary story mission enemies like nothing
I hope they give the rest of the black armory weps this amount of love! Tata gaze and orchid….one day we will be reunited!
kinetic tremors works pretty well with frenzy as well in a pinch, you get the damage and handling/reload to keep pumping out the damage.
Yes, snapshot/kill clip. Love it. reminded me of my OG blast furnace
Been hanging for this review
Hey! I get killed in this! 23 seconds in. Good game sir
The difference in Kinetic Tremors damge and activation time with Hung Jury will be even more pronounced enhanced.
I’ll have to give my Blast Furnace another chance, I was still hunting for something else, since I have that fluted, accurized, perpetual, kill clip, stabile masterwork roll. 😅
85 recoil direction may be the goat since it pushes to right when deterministic pushes to left
As beautiful as the day I lost it! More PvP oriented than I would've liked, but Headseeker and Rapid Hit is my chase so far! Glad it's back!
Thank you CoolGuy, love your vids!
RiP man. You will be missed
source?
Great review, thank you
Thanks for this, as always, great video!
firefly and shoot to loot works well together. firefly will pick up ammo that is in the explosion
I was so happy to get this back its incredible
I hope this is foreshadowing for old and new Black Armory weapons and gear to return. Sure, the forges are gone, but there’s a number of ways the writers could bring them back to bring back the armory.
shoot to loot firefly is my pve roll, because firefly immediately picks up orbs it may create, so i can just vibe
I hope youre taking care of your health and mental health first and foremost brother. You and fallout and castle and TV are my favorite destiny content creators ever and even if it means less content, i want you guys to take care of yourselves first.
If you ever wanted someone to play with so you arent solo lmk
Got a zen moment firefly with 86 range roll and MY GOD it feels good, 15 kills with it the first match of crucible I went in with it, likely because I had a huge stability as well.
Kinetic tremors and firefly is a lot of fun. It's viable in pve and pvp. Love it with strand.
from my testing 65 recoil with 99 stability is identical almost to 100 recoil which is cool
When it comes to PvP Elsie’s is king. That headseeker/Zen roll is nasty
Bungie didn't like giving us the Recoil stat because it meant we kept using the same barrels for everything, so they made it pointless by introducing "deterministic recoil" in order to force players to test recoil patterns again and find the specific recoil stat that each individual weapon performs best with.
I hate it.
Really? I like it lol
My favorite pve roll on this weapon so far is arrow head, accurrized rounds, ktremors, firefly, with reload masterwork got that one and it's probably my go too pve pulse right now and with the tfs giving pulses a chunky 38% dmg bonus this very well could be a top contender for pve kprimary
Mark my words tho when fatebringer (timelost) becomes enhancable at some point with a brand new origin trait ot will be king of pve handcannons
Fire fly is interesting to pair with chromatic fire on solar classes. You can get a solar ignition off with a melee or grenade sometimes.
For me, Headseeker + Kill Clip in PvP.
I have KinTrem + Rampage for PvE but it's not popping off even with anti-barrier pulse.
With 8.0.5 when we can focus Brave weapons with Zavala, I'm going for KinTrem + OneForAll
Great info as always man thank u
It's the mortar holding together the bricks of a build, particularly if it's going to handle champions or the times when abilities aren't up.
the pulse battle scar can roll with kinetic tremors as well
He knows. Watch the video.
Their implementation of deterministic recoil seems like a mistake and is just overly confusing to players.
Great vid, for comparison what would be your Elsie’s 5/5?
You’re the best, man.
Here's an idea:
Blast Furnace with Desperate Measures + Arthrys' Embrace 👀
Headseeker/rampage has been doin some *work* for me
I hate deterministic recoil. If I spec for 100 recoil, it should be straight up, no exceptions
I run snapshot/kill clip on the bxr and it’s an absolute monster. Might have to try it as well for blast furnace.
Deperate Measures can be procced while the weapon is stowed too
Hope your feeling well
Finally i have a replacement for my head seeker/ rapid hit sacred provenance. Took a bit though LOL
I've been playing with it, it's good, but Elsie's is next level. First match I had with my Zen Moment/Head seeker roll I went 25-0. That weapon is built different lol.
Thanks for gettin nerdy with it buddy...👊
Also look for Desperate Measures with KT as it also increases its damage.
With every review, of a weapon that shows off the recoil pattern, deterministic recoil actually makes it MORE DIFFICULT to know what your gun is goin to do tied to the stats, and it’s one of the worst things they’ve ever done to guns, used to be the higher the better but now there is a big ol asterisk based on the weapon
Legendary pulses in pve are pretty good tho, nit quite sure what you’re talking about there, like it’s the only primary i ever use, and they dont rlly struggle even in gm content, sure they could always do a lil bit more many gun archetypes feel that way, especially scouts
Headseeker rapid hit is really amazing bc no ramp up
I’m digging zen moment firefly :/ in this team shooting meta it’s great
Dammit, days grinding and we find out the role u get from completing the bounty is one of the god rolls
Yonah, Craver of Melons is a beautiful title! I only wish it was as good as Weissey, Sloppy Kiss Giver
I have a shiny perpetual motion-kill clip roll with 94 range, 74 stability, 65 recoil :D
been using kenetic o.f.a and headseeker firefly in pvp , both really good conconsidering im a pve main
