In case anyone was wondering, the version of Quicktime they previewed back in WWDC 2009 was actually "Quicktime X" which was the $30 version of QT. It featured additional features like recording, trimming, and streaming from a URL feed etc. Quicktime X has the nice sexy black icon with blue glow inside.

Slightly unrelated but your "digital documents" comment reminded me of an HP server system from around this era that I was tasked to maintain. No paper manuals; it came with a CD labeled "user guides," so you'd figure the disk had copies of all the docs you'd expect to come with a server system. Surely it'd all fit within 650MB. Maddeningly, the only file on the disc was a tiny PDF with a hyperlink that said "For documents, go to HP's website here." These idiots wasted an entire CD on a 500kb file that was just an outdated hyperlink!

Man you should try to install Monterey on your 2013 MacBook Pro with OpenCore Legacy Patcher! You're likely not going to have a misadventure this time as long as you don't do sh*t!
I have some experience with this patcher, it's a transparent feeling with Metal supported devices, feels like officially supported!
Also a 2013 MacBook Pro is a lot more durable than M1 because you don't get a firmware on a soldered SSD (like 2 sh*ts in a single feature)!

I still use Snow Leopard. Why? It was before they ruined iMovie, Final Cut Pro, and iTunes; and limited what you could do with Quicktime. What pissed me off about them ruining iMovie is that they dropped third party plugin support. That sent a lot of cottage developers out of business, and nullified all my effects purchases. iMovie was elegant and powerful. Now? Abysmal. I tried to get used to Final Cut Pro X, but it is also abysmal. If the new Macs are so powerful, then why oh why no Rosetta for my zillions of older apps!? But NO! They will not even license Snow Leopard to go on Virtual Machines! It's like, "forget the software you spent so much money on... your out of luck!" Grrrrr

I remember using my 4th gen i3 to prepare an installation of Windows 98 SE and doing that without a VM for whatever reason - it ran like a nightmare, you could mostly only navigate stuff if you knew what the mess on the screen was resembling by memory (or from a user manual printout :p)
