Nelson Mandela said, "If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart." so I think that just because English is nowadays lingua franca does not mean that native english speaker don't need to learn another language.
I totally agree with you. I have found my experience in France to be so much richer because I've made the effort to learn French. Also, it's more fun! Thanks for the great quote :-)
In the coming summer vacation of 2023, my youngest daughter , college student in South Korea, has a plan to stay in Paris for 5 days for a sightseeing with one of her friends after they spend 5days in Swaziland . They already have reserved hotels. Could you have one or two recommendable places which would be the best for their first trip to France ? I am not good at English ,yet recently,I am listening to your video which is going to be a good help of learning English because sharing your experiences of French life by clear expressions and lovely voice are getting me motivated to continue learning live many English expressions. Thanks a lot.
Thank you so much for this comment. I totally know what you mean. Mostly what people who ask me this question mean is, "do I need to be fluent in French before I move to France?" -- for those who dream of moving to France but have never studied French or feel inadequate, it can be a bit of a fear factor, so just trying to help with that! One of the great things about France is you can get low-cost French lessons if you live here. My opinion is (as I've said so many times haha) why wouldn't you want to learn the language of a country where you're planning to live? It's such a beautiful (if challenging) way to begin to feel like you're part of the culture. But you don't have to be perfect to be there! I just love speaking French and the more I learn, the more I realize how much more there is to learn! Such a rich and expressive language and well worth the effort!
