Mon Calamari's are bad asses. I never realized their cruisers were actually underwater city's that sat vertically.
High water pressure in the deep oceans needs good structures. Our air tight submarines can be modified for space travel when engines and life support technologies are at sufficient level.

I spent 8 years of my life in the Unites States Navy aboard Los Angeles Class submarines as a Nuclear Electricians Mate. I have a background in engineering and radiological controls as a result. Please treat this as an extended comment - the answer as given is, in fact, no. But there are number of misconceptions that you guys are flailing around.
I can unequivocally and without a doubt say that it would not explode. The air would leak out from around the shaft that makes the screw go around, but you'd likely weld that shut before spending several billion dollars flying something that heavy that high. You'd also have to seal a few cable ways but sonar doesn't work in space, so no big loss.
As far as oxygen - (classified). But that kind of machine uses very very clean water, and uses it pretty slowly. It's not like it needs access to the ocean to work. Look up commercial grade systems and you'll understand.
As far as radiation - bring it. The whole charged particle thing is simply incorrect. A beta particle or an alpha particle simply won't cause an avalanche cascade in steel. There's not a significant neutron source up there. That leaves the gamma rays that everyone has to deal with.
As far as power - (classified). But no nuclear reactor anywhere can operate without a heat sink. That's just thermodynamics. And submarines sink heat to the Main Seawater Expansion Tank, aka the ocean. Period. No water, no power. Forget it - no workarounds.
As far as burning up - the ISS is a thing that is real. Polish it shiny and paint it white and there is no real risk of burning up. The reactor is down so, meh.
The biggest thing that everybody missed is that all submarines are built assuming that gravity is a thing that exists. The entire design of a nuclear reactor must take into account this very basic thing. Shoving something like this into microgravity means water starts coming out of the tops of tanks and pooping gets real risky. Steam that should be on top gets on bottom and water destroys your turbines while us enlisted men take turns opening various valves to naked vacuum because we like to watch things disappear into space - which is the real reason why we'd all end up dead from hypoxia.

The thickness of the skin of the Lunar Lander was only the thickness of a few sheets of tinfoil, and that was able to keep the cabin pressurized.
A modern submarine platform and thick hull plates are overkill for non-combat space applications.
MonCal capital structures was designed to operate deep under water.

ASCENDED You saw what happened to the Nebulon B that got in front of the Profundity while the Devastator was firing right? Honestly these ships have too many weakspots, but that doesn’t mean I hate them.
ISDs were build to be warships so their overexposed bridge is a huge design flaw especially withe the shield generators exposed, the Profundity was basically just a building that was turned into a warship/carrier.

StealthyTNT I think they have a secondary bridge within the Hull. At least I think I read it somewhere. So that exposed bridge is more of a observation thing.
@@nickdouglas736 The idea of an observation tower in space where there is no horizon or surface of the ocean is pretty funny. Star Wars is neat and all, but newer Sci-Fi would do well to try and predict what spaceships might actually look like rather than recreating WW2 in space.

His father is called diameter
His grandfather is called Circumference
The ship was named after him because of his leadership at scarif not because he was a mayor

I like Canon's history for this ship over Legends.
Don't get me wrong, Legends made a cool story about how these ships were converted from luxury cruisers into warships.
But converting your entire city into a battleship? I can't think of anything that can top that!
Canon also has transport ships converted into warships. Mon Calamari can turn everything into a warship.
Give them a shipping container. Just an ordinary metal box... and I'll bet they'll have that refitted into at least a corvette by the end of the day.

When I see the MC-75 I can't help but think that this ship has some inspiration from the Nebulon-B like the long and thin section, but with a thicker haul . Both of ships these ships do look good together and I would like to see this ship in the future.

You might want to check your math of the height of the Profundity at 2:05, there... 435 meters is big, but not FOUR THOUSAND FEET big.

The Mon Calamari are one of my favorite species on Star Wars. I wish we had more of them on the shows. Not just characters, but also their culture. I wish Clone wars had cover that part in more episodes.
That Moment when Vaders Star Destroyer came out of Hyperspace an the small Rebel Fighters and Transporters crashed directly into it... What a Heartbreaking Moment.

Have to say that the space battle in Rogue One is probably one of my favourites. While the rest of the film, especially the first half where it feels they are jumping all over the place and quite rushed, may be a bit lack luster?... that climax is probably one of my favourite Star Wars moments.
Maybe they built the engines under licence from KDY, like how Martin built the B-57 bomber under licence from English Electric.

What i always wanted to know, how did the Mon Calamari build more cruisers after they evacuated their homeworld? You hear people say they escaped their planet with 12 cruisers, one cruiser was destroyed and the crew turned to ash at Scarif, two further cruisers were death starred at Endor and all their crew disintegrated, and in that battle given that they were duking it out with 30+ Star Destroyers they probably lost more cruisers with all crew exposed to cold hard space. One of the canonical cartoon series also has another MC cruiser and all her crew destroyed. Yet apparently they were up to 15 cruisers after Endor, when really they should have been down to 8 at most, more probably 5 or 6.
Each of the buildings in every mon cal city was as space ship however the twelve you talk about are the twelve ships in mon cals fleet that were armed defended mon cal intell the other ships excaped

In the U.K.''s Royal Navy a Trawler is a Jeep ( general purpose) boat/ small ship used for a variety of roles such as minesweeping and mine laying, sub hunting, harbour defence and even convoy escorting in the past. Although their names do come from fishing trawlers that were requisitioned from the civilian fishery fleets and modified for a combat role or custom ordered built and modified fishing trawlers for a military purpose.
I Guess the ' Trawler' name fits as most squids (Mon Calamari ;-p )warships are converted and modified civilian ships.

Great video MetaNerdz. I always loved the Mon cala ships but this one had a more unique design then the others. But man that bridge is so exposed to fire.
I really like how a lot of the new canon Mon Cal cruisers like the Profundity and later the Raddus have a look that's more of a fusion of Mon Calan and Quarren engineering. I hope that this trend continues with newer ships down the line

The profundity is never seen firing a shot in Rogue 1, I wish to argue that Mon Calamari ships officially have no guns are are just glorified aircraft carriers with really powerful shields.

Previous to this video I was under the impression that the organic, streamlined shape of Mon Cal cruisers was chosen to contrast with the severe, geometric shape of Imperial vessels. What an interesting concept having them double in function, but I am having trouble imagining how the decks might change orientation to suit each purpose.

So how does "top sub-light speed in space" work in the Star Wars universe?
I assume it’s as much as their inertial compensators can take while maintaining a reasonable turning radius? In reality I don’t think this was at all thought through, but that’s what I’m going with.
For me it's the best looking of the Mon Calamari ships. Just a great silhouette. I'd love to have a nice model kit of it... unlikely, but I'd snap one up in a heartbeat!

I rather reposition the bridge's location, it has the same weaknesses like the Nebulon B Frigate. The Nebulon B's scrawny middle section was its weakness and it also shows on the Profundity's long section for the bridge.

Gravity is meaningless whilst underwater. I would assume that when they were being used as cities the ships were full of water, drained to aide the ships leaving the planet.

I love the Mon Calamari, and their shops look great, but the ret-con explaining that they are converted buildings and habitats from under the ocean is just silly. Back in the day they were mentioned as being originally starliners and transport ships the Mon Cal were able to arm and equip for combat, which I think is pretty cool in its own right.

It was always strange to me how Vader's location in the docking bay of the Profundity changes because he clearly could not be by the entry point when its on the side of the corvette. Instead you see him in the back of the docking bay further down and there are docking clamps in front of him on a platform where he is looking forward out of the docking bay as the ship is leaving. There are also similar platforms on the side of the docking bay below where the ship takes off. I personally think this is a huge editing flub made on purpose to make things look interesting because we all know there is no entry point in the back of the corvette.
