My dad was like this. He'd make literally anything out of anything. However... he was a toolmaker and he had some big precision machines. Surface grinders, lathes, mills, welding machines and press machines. I respect the fact you made this plane literally with a bandsaw, press drill, hammer and a lot of filing and sanding. It must have took a long time but its great to see creative problem solving like this. Well made.
What can one say? Your attention to detail, the absolute precision, the quality of craftsmanship and the out and out pure beauty of your projects is nothing less than topnotch. I truly enjoy watching you work and look forward to each production. Thank you for sharing you talent with those of us who appreciate your abilities.
i love everything about your videos: the finished product; the processes and problem solving; the video creation and editing; everything. thanks for all this great content you've given us.
You're videos always provide an excellent example of what can be achieved by hard work, clever design and the use of the right materials. Once again a great watch!!!
Extremely underrated on TH-cam. You're my hero. Making all these tools your own. I hope to gain confidence in myself that tackle projects like all you've done.
I have been watching your videos for quite some time now. The absolute beauty, quality, attention to detail and sheer utility of your projects is simply amazing. Absolutely love them
Impressive, nope wrong word, MINDBOGGLING is more like it! Amazing work indeed. Now I've seen it all, making dovetails to join metal parts together. The caliber of work that you do is totally off the charts!
Just found your channel and this is the second video I've seen. It usually takes me about a year of following someone before I choose whether or not I want to subscribe. I subscribed to your channel while watching this video. Now it's time to binge watch your other vids. Freaking stellar work! Utterly amazing!
You are an admiration to the making of quality tools. I love your videos and I admire your work so much. Utter genius. Thank you young je for the superb video.
Dislikes are either jealous, worried about how close his gloved fingers got to the blade at 3:10, or don't lime spray finishes, I guess. I couldn't see any other reason besides just being pure evil with a black heart.
I truly enjoy watching you work and look forward to each production. Thank you for sharing you talent with those of us who appreciate your abilities, and a belated Merry Christmas and all the best in the new year looking forward to more of your fine work.
Wow, I wish I had the patience and skill to produce such beautiful works of functional art. Or that I could afford to buy some from you. Beautifully done as usual. You never fail to inspire.
Dear Sir, Another beautifully made plane with the usual diligent attention. Perhaps seeing the entire collection in a cabinet one day might be the order of the day? Very well done. Enjoy your Christmas & have a very productive new Year 2019. Kind regards.
@@YoungJe Dear Sir, Thank you very much for your courteous & hearted reply. I look forward to seeing your master pieces with great anticipation in the coming new year. Kind regards.
@@dangreen7709 I was thinking the same at first, but looked again. There's a leather surface on that wheel, plus Young Je gave a heart on my response, so I think it's a leather wheel. CBN is all the rage, but wouldn't leave a polished surface on that brass.
Looks fantastic. I have to ask though, is there a reason you didn't weld or braze the metal? Brazing would have created a joint that's as strong or stronger than dove tails. It might have saved you hours (days?) of cutting, filing, fitting, and peening. Since you're able to heat up that tool steel you probably only need to buy brazing rods.
There's a level of pedigree surrounding dovetails, especially metal ones. Any schmuck with a weekend and some basic brazing tools can make a workable (not perfect, that takes years of experience) bond. Dovetailing metal is an incredible feat.
@@lotmomwhile I don't disagree that dovetailing metal is an incredible feat, I still question whether or not it's any more functional than brazing. If the end result is a plane of specific dimensions, and if either method can yield those dimensions, what's the benefit of dovetailing? I'm not saying there isn't one. I am suggesting the benefit has nothing to do with functionality. Let's also not forget: Young Ge is not any old schmuck. I'm sure he could figure out brazing pretty quickly if he's not already experienced with it. I'm not any old schmuck either. I know from experience that brazing can make very strong, squared joints with very little to no distortion - and that's without needing years of experience. I'd be willing to bet that brazing produces far less distortion than peening dovetails. How could it not? Peening requires distortion to work. My guess is this: Young Je didn't have what he needed to braze, or weld, or cast, or machine some metal, so he tried another technique. If I'm wrong, I'd love to learn why.
@@elbowdonkey You definitely make a good point, and I agree, there probably is little if any functional difference, and if that is the case, I'd think my point still stands. As for brazing, I've always thought of it as some mystical art. When I started TIG welding, that only strengthened that idea. Definite kudos for guys like you who have put in the effort to learn a skill like that. But I would love to hear Young's input on this!

Absolutely spectacular!
What an amazing piece of work!

👍👍👍good work
Very nice, good job Young.
I just wonder if a heavy scrub plane is a good idea. I often use my light wooden one and I'm happy with its weight.
Thanks for showing how & sharing that

Looked like a leather stropping wheel on a slow speed grinder
CBN (cubic boron nitride) grinding wheel. The latest rage in grinding wheel tech, but only good for use on quality steel

Thomas Russell My mistake
Tremendous work ! Do you use harbor freight taps?
Please excuse me while I wipe the droll of my face... That was really cool. Keep it up my friend. How many hrs did it take to make?
about 40 hours. thanks~

You test with a magnet, when its no longer magnetic you can quench
