its a white guy they arrested
this guy admitting they were wrong and taking accountability for it shows he's a good man
lawsuit incoming ... just got an admission of guilt @@flamesnipr1213
This right here are the kinds of cops we want. This Sheriff is exactly the kind of law enforcement that would regain the trust of the public. Most department's would just lie and claim they did nothing wrong but these guys admitted to wrongdoing and made things right. It's sad that we have to applaud police for doing the right thing but it's a breath of fresh air to see something like this.
You haven't looked hard enough then
THIS is what accountability and integrity looks like.
Well put. Chances any other PDs, prosecuting attorneys or government officials will ever do this????? You can only hope
I’m not impressed with a department who asked a judge to sign an arrest warrant for a man that they didn’t even confirm had ever even been to their town. He lived hours away, and one phone call could’ve told them that.
This apology is the result of a lazy investigator believing the word of a junkie. Total BS.
Is it? Where is the accountability? Just apologizing? Hilarious.
Did you notice something else? He repeated: They were nice and good people when contacting him. EVEN when he had done something wrong. So people can learn a lot. You ALWAYS start nicely and to see if they are honest people. THEN if they lie, you can go as hard as you want basically.
One thing is for sure: Everyone is wrong sometime. And not everyone deserves to be shit on. Especially people who were not directly involved
Doesn’t admitting to a mistake seen so much more relatable and understandable
Only if you admit your mistakes which a significant portion of society can't do 😂
Yes indeed. You get and deserve more respect when you can admit that you have been wrong and do everything you can to remedy the error.
You gonna pay using your tax money for pig's mistake. Are you still happy?

@@DistrustHumanzHe was trying to explain where the innocent blokes mug shot came from, He also went on to say he hadn’t been arrested in years and was doing well…
Don't fool yourself. He's worried about a law suit. Money. All they care about.
Especially in North Carolina they are all about making up fake charges or letting the sheriffs son go around and rob houses and then do nothing about it
Why did the city fire him if he is presumed innocent until proven guilty? I'd sue for that.

Too bad this is sooooo rare
Mistake or not...I WOULD SUE...!!!!!!
@Rob3565 Just playing devils advocate here but... If they get sued for doing the right thing doesn't that just reinforce the fact that they should double down and never admit they are wrong? I have sued and had a restraining order against the sheriff department for them doing wrong and continuing so not really a big pro blue person but just thinking out loud here.
@Rob3565 In most cases due to police misconduct and refusal to ever admit wrongdoing a suit would need to be brought however in a case like this I see that the police got him his job back and publicly apologized and as long as in addition to that they were willing to offer up a preemptive settlement there's no reason to drag it through litigation. I do agree that they should offer some money but it's not like it needs to be millions of dollars. They made restitution in the areas they could and as long as they also offer like 10-100k to restore the lost time and anxiety of everything I believe that would make him whole. Now if they police didn't learn their lesson and refused to accept liability for the mistake and kept betraying the public trust then a suit for millions should be brought. That's just not the case here.
Owning up to a mistake quickly won't spare you the consequences, but will spare you a lot of grief
First time I have ever heard law enforcement apologize for a mistaken arrest......
Thanks to the Sheriff....
its easier to do when there's not going to be major lawsuits. In sounds his job situation was fixed and with a public apology like this, i dont see a judge or jury awarding excessive compensation fort this mistake.
Because he is a white man!
And of course the dude was white. I'd like to see him apologize for falsely arresting people of color for racial discrimination
Yeah because they KNOW they'll get sued for this garbage.

Mistakes like this happen far more than the average person realizes. The fact that this sheriff is making his apology public is what's unusual.
he's hoping he'll avoid a multi-million dollar lawsuit.
Causing damage to his reputation is a reason to file a lawsuit. This individual apologizing is probably trying to avoid the lawsuit.
Yes, when cops think they are right, there is no return. Usually a double down.
@@dawn2wells
He knows , they can't avoid a lawsuit. 🤔
The reality is this man unlawfully had his freedom and liberties robbed. His reputation impugned. And suffered financial losses. Even if he isn't guilty the arrest still remains on his record and must be reported to all employers. The press conference is only an acknowledgment that they broke the law. It does not make this man and his family whole. As for those arguing the phrase 'right to work'. This was a propaganda piece put out by the GOP. It actually means a person is not required to join a union as a condition for hire.
Finally, an officer of the law taking accountability.
lol it's the taxpayers who will payout the upcoming lawsuit.
The problem is they do not give the same treatment to the public that they demand officers get. That same guy gets up in front of the cameras immediately after arrested shouting to the world all types of accusations as fact before they actually do the investigations. But catch an officer on camera doing illegal actions, they claim you can't actually tell until after a year long investigation. Also, they can't release the bodycam footage because of said investigation.

HEY GENIUS, If they had checked the system HE WAS IN three years ago, they would have know he has been clean for three years and was a hard worker!!!!!!! So much for detective work.......@@youropionmattersnot
@@youropionmattersnotwhat do you mean “the system” do you have a drivers license? The government has a photo of you.
The police made a public apology and i really respect when people admit their mistakes. It might not fix the mistake but it is the bare minimum that should be done.
This is a man that is worthy of his post, one who embodies public service. I hope Spartanburg realizes and appreciates how much integrity their Sheriff has.
This is a Sheriff I'd work for, honest and humble. This was something he didn't have to do, but did to set the record straight. Good man.
he literally blamed the guy for his departments mistake and then made sure everyone in the country knows he is a drug user.
Excellent job on admitting you were wrong publicly.
It never should've happened....that's the point.
Perhaps you missed the part where he mentioned the innocent guy's previous drug issues... in his apology press conference.
He is grown if he wants to do drugs that is his choice.. who are you to be telling anyone what they can put in their body.. I bet your one of those 5 year old know what gender they want to be.. Off with their penis..pssh. sik Fk@@DistrustHumanz
How does admission of wronging that man, help?
How is this press conference going to restore that man's life?
How does an apology make him whole again now that he's lost his job, and possibly other things too?
This is what accountability looks like. This is a good police officer and man. A person willing to right their wrongs and admit when they are wrong. Good on you Sir!
Thank you for doing the right thing for that young man. Taking ownership of mistakes demonstrates true leadership and helps to build trust with the community.
I really appreciate that there was a public apology in front of the press and not just some press release.
should have got it right the first time, now they don't want to get sued.
@@pokerman9108It was a mistake. Of course they should have got it right the first time.
@@davidt01 It was a rookie move. that heavily effected this man's life. I don't consider those mistakes. That's just pure negligence. He should be compensated for it. Maybe half this sheriffs pension.
@@pokerman9108definitely some repercussions are in order! That type of mistake happens everyday, just most times they successfully prosecute the person; in this case there must have been something they couldn't hide, that is the only reason they admitted the mistake.
@@pokerman9108The Sheriff said they will make this guy whole.
People like yourself say, "Police reform etc.", but when you see it, you still bitch about it.
Would it been better if the falsely accused showed his ass, got shot to death by an Officer, would that been better? NO, you still don't have a right to act like a criminal even though an unfortunate event occurred. This is your police reform and what a Civilized Society should act like.
The Sheriff acted in good faith, unfortunately the resemblance of a photo was so close that an arrest was made on the wrong guy. I don't think the informant asked for a State Issued ID before buying/selling fentanyl to the person the Sheriff's department is looking for. Only a photo to go by and trying to stop the flow of fentanyl that could kill you or anyone else that you may know.
Don't believe what I'm saying, then answer this.... What if you picked up some trash in your yard that was contaminated with fentanyl and overdose. Would that make you a drug addict? The only info anyone can go on is your overdose just like a photo recognition from a drug informant.
Before you arrest anybody you need to have your ducks in a row
@ cc 43 - Sounds nice, but cops MUST rely on the "flash" info and wanted warrant photos that they are given. For example, if the dispatcher sends out the license plate number with just ONE digit mistaken, the police do NOT have time to untangle it until AFTER you are in handcuffs.
I would hope that they could be careful enough to act accordingly, EVEN when the man in custody is NOT their guy . . .
@@enniswhalen2428 How was this cop relying on 'flash' info by mentioning the innocent guys previous drug issues... in the apology press conference...
They obviously have they’re informants in a row ..
The cops ran his playe and pulled up his record and knew what they would arrest him for at that moment. Ive had cops search my car knowing I had a gun because of my concealed license before constitutional carry passed here. They know alot by that flash info. You got any prior convictions and you will get arrested for similar excuses. Open and shut case for cops generally. Just sucks for the cops this guy has friends and lawyers. The cop wants them to drop exposing their department, basically.
Arrest the cops for kidnapping or there is ZERO accountability
Wow. What an upstanding officer. That's what I like to see. A press conference to show and Apologize to the individual that was wrongfully arrested. Kudos 👏
Wow! You mean there's actually ONE law enforcement agency that still has the integrity to admit a mistake and rectify it? Well done sir! Are the others watching? Of course not!
I've never in my life seen a police department apologize for a misstep like this.
I've never in my life seen someone separate their glasses like that! Power move
They fk up everyday
Wow, words. After they only intentionally ruined his life.
This is an average country boy
Yeah most think if they do that that people will just turn around it sue them immediately because they admitted they were wrong. However, what they don't realize is the average person. This is all they want They don't actually want to have to sue you. It's a lot of work. They don't want to spend their life trying to get money from you.
You have NO idea how just a mistake can ruin you. Even with an admission like this. Imagine being FALSELY charged for child molestation. "Oh, sorry. We were wrong" doesn't cut it in some situations. YOU were maligned by law enforcement and arrested. Some will never forgive regardless. The damage has been done.
Yup
and that arrest will show up on reports to the police EVEN IF YOU EXPUNGE IT. thus making the cops stopping you for speeding to treat you differently!
Are saying that other mistakes are forgivable?
They don’t care.
Chuck Wright is a stand up guy in every way, he is next door to the county I live in. I hear the news reports locally, he takes care of business!
Wow I’m soooo impressed for them apologizing and clearing the air
Props to this sheriff for offering a sincere apology. Says a lot about his integrity. Good job.
sincere apology means nothing all that is as an attempt to keep this guy from suing but he should do because it ruined his livelihood
I dunno. It is a lot more than you usually get from the police. Typically they double down and prosecute the innocent.
This is why sheriffs are superior. They’re elected by the people, and can be fired by the people for doing a bad job.
Much better than some political favor appointee by some crooked politician.
What you see here is a cop who knows he needs to serve his people properly, or lose his job.
Plus, he does come across as a decent person as well.
Just words. They owe him money, a lot of money, and it should come directly out of the pockets of the officers who failed to do their jobs. Cops are not your friends, not competent, not decent; they are tyrants, lawless thugs. Read John Whitehead's A GOVERNMENT OF WOLVES: THE EMERGING AMERICAN POLICE STATE.
@@jB-uw8fi Where I live, the Sheriff is a thug who is known to have extorted people he and his deputies arrest.
Very proud of this department for keeping themselves accountable and setting the record straight. We need to see this happen more often when people are falsely arrested.
Thanks you are a real man🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
