I’m a performer in NYC in my 30s and I also appreciate watching your videos! I agree with you- I so wish we had access to this insider knowledge when we were in high school and college. ❤
You are spot on with the "cost" of being a musical theater actor. Same figures here in SF, (although I am blessed to have a Broadway voice teacher/coach who moved here, so his fee is less.) This is a job/career where you HAVE TO BE ready to be prepared.
How did you find a rent stable apt. My daughter is a senior MT kid and wants to move to the city if she doesn’t book a cruise or tour. 1700 is not bad. I’m worried about being able to find affordable housing.
@@catanalambertson38 I got really lucky and found it on Street Easy - however it was during 2021 where a lottttt of rent prices went down. Currently in my building, the apartments that have the same layout as mine are going for about $2,300-2,700 🫠 I think the most realistic thing is for your daughter to move in with roommates, or potentially even start out with subletting. That’s what I did! But, there’s always a chance you can find something on Street Easy, so look every day!
That’s good to know that street easy is a good place to look. She has friends subletting in Brooklyn that she is staying with for the next day or so for an audition. And she has friends in Bushwick? I think. And Washington heights. She is suppose to be finding out the ins and outs of all the areas while she is in the city. But I’m really hoping she ends up with cruise/tour so she can travel before moving to the city.
Love your videos! You are a great resource for other up and coming theater actors.

Wow I had no idea - sounds so tough!

Thank you for sharing. I enjoy learning about what it is like to pursue musical theatre 🙂
So interesting. My granddaughter is just in middle school but she's a theater kid and I'm thinking about how I can support her in the future.
