  • The manufacturer claims that this is great for sports performance, health and wellness, and recovering from a hangover. And it really is great! (For wasting your money and making you look naff in public.) Don't believe me, observe this commercial.
    For more, check out my blog post: s.co.tt/2015/10...
    And here's the place to find links to all the stuff I mentioned in the video: plr.io/1rb
    (This video would probably apply equally well to products from Vitality Air, Oxygen Plus, Oxygen4Energy and others. I haven't tried their products, so if you have any more information on those guys please let me know in the comments.)

    Used it on a hike in Vail Colorado at 11k feet. I’m from a place that’s -13 feet below sea level. On the hike I got my heart rate up to 170 bpm, then took a hit of this and it dropped within a few seconds to 145. Got it back up to 170 and tried only deep breaths of outside air. After a minute it only dropped to 160, so I’d say it works.

      So what you are saying is that if you go to an elevation where oxygen is thin and breathe a can of oxygen you are no longer putting stress on your lungs and therfore your heart? No way! Dude unless you are at an elevation like that which most people aren't, this product is useless and people with asthma already have inhalers so this isn't even a solution to that. It's very niche and in the majority of cases completely useless. They are targeting this towards average everyday people who usually stay in their comfort zone, they won't need this product. It's mainly people who hike, who will ever need this

      @@ApexPredatorOutdoors the advertisements they show are normal people doing normal things like leisurely riding a bike, if you have trouble getting oxygen into your system while doing that then you should probably go visit a doctor, all I'm saying is the ad needs to reflect it's qualities, it's main quality being that if you are hiking and need oxygen it's there, if you are in serious need of oxygen then you should buy one of those big canisters and something to carry it in, you'll get more oxygen and won't constantly have to buy itty bitty ones and hope you don't run out before your next trip to the store. Look it has its place I'll give you that, it's just not being marketed in the way that it should

      @@thinkbeforyouvote It isn't for the people that need 24/7 O2. I smoked for almost 40 years and have COPD with emphysema and chronic bronchitis but not to the point of needing O2 prescribed. The conditions I have from smoking mean that my body doesn't absorb O2 as easily as others so using this as a supplement once in a while helps. It does give me a bit more energy along with clearing my head a bit and makes me feel generally better. If you don't like it don't buy it. It really is just that simple.

You can only heave the machine a few times before you are out of breath...and it takes a while to get your breath back at such high altitude. I used a boost to help me and honestly, it worked awesome. So maybe some of the other claims are bogus...but this product is awesome for high altitude.

    I would like to give you more credence. You may even be right. But your arrogant presentation seems to only cover the fact that you conducted absolutely no tests on the product. Weak. Basically your review is based on zero testing whether or not the Oxygen Boost works for high altitude exercise. Your argument is riddled with fallacies. 1) you compare the smaller can to a larger medical oxygen canister. Boost Oxygen does not claim to be a replacement for medical oxygen. No one is going to carry the large medical canister into the mountains. 2) You do not specifically identify backpackers' and bikers' claims who say this works at high altitude. 3) you base a significant portion of your argument on the fact that you can purchase O2 cheaper if you buy it in bulk. That is like saying buying 12oz bottles of water is stupid (and therefore ineffective) when you can purchase a 5 gal bottle of water for cheaper based on a unit to dollar ration. Such an attack only trivializes the rest of your condescending tirade. Maybe if you actually put it to the test rather than spent the entire clip acting so superior - again based on zero evidence - you wouldn't have nearly 50% thumbs down. As i said, you may be correct, but your entire delivery and your refusal to conduct any investigation on your own trivializes your argument. And your "OJ Simpson the gloves don't fit " demonstration was laughable. The most scientific test you conducted was pushing the trigger and asking "How pathetic does that sound?" you did more harm for your argument than good. Though everything you concluded may be right, the review was bullsh*t.

      When he compares the weight of the larger cannister, the weight is because to contain 2,000 psi it must be structurally sound. Now what he doesn't mention is the 21% O2 in the smaller bottle. I am 66 and had removed asbestos in large quantities therefore as a runner who has ran in the low 2:20's barely missing the 1980 trials realize the importance of Oxygen. Using an Oxygen Saturation Device won't show a higher rate because the smaller higher concentration of Oxygen will be metabolized and be expelled as CO2. He is correct however on the mouth and nose piece being more efficient. If you remember blood doping was when athletes withdrew blood, froze it, then re-injected it thereby increasing the volume and oxygen carrying capacity. The small amounts of Oxygen of higher concentratiins have their place by helping pulmonary impaired patients.

    Your video is completely misleading. You are twisting the intended use of the product to be something it's not, and comparing it to daily supplimental sustained oxygen feeds. This is a proverbial apples to oranges comparison. The product is for temporary single boost use during high altitude physical exertion. It's not ment for sustained oxygen feed like the large tank. It's mearly a boost of of oxygen when in high altitude where oxygen levels are lower; therfore your red blood cells are not carrying the normal amount of oxygen through your body, and hits of oxygen can be helpful for a short period of time.

    Hi Scott- this is Rob Neuner from Boost Oxygen. Surprised at the video obviously- we try very hard to provide a value-added product. You make some valid points- if you're fully oxygenated- your body will just reject extra oxygen- we tell this to people all the time. But if you're deficient- from altitude, from drinking alcohol, from over-exertion, it really does help. We've helped countless people- and are proud of our work and our product. The one thing I would like to ask you to do, is to remove that clip of the woman in the beginning inhaling a gas from a keyboard duster. This type of use has killed young people and we don't want to be associated or even remotely compared to this, we hope you can understand. I went to my urgent care with a very hard time breathing. I felt like I was drowning in my lungs (and I previously had Lemierre's Syndrome, which almost destroyed my left lung and made it necessary to have a very painful left lung thoracotomy). So I got into triage, and my BPM is 115 or so and my SPO2 was 93 (100 is normal I was told, but if u are at least 95, ur ok), so somewhat low, but not in any true danger of dying, so they put in a waiting room. And I know being a nurse is a very difficult job, and I didn't want to upset them, but I kept telling them I feel like I'm drowning and would appreciate some oxygen to see if it helps. They said no, every single time I asked. They made it seems like I was a junkie in there to ask for opiates. I never felt so poorly treated at an urgent care in my entire life. If my 02 was like a 97, and I never had lung surgery in my life, I would kinda understand their point, but that wasn't the case. So I got this can for emergencies. Pray it works!

    • @ScottDotDot
      @ScottDotDot  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Falucka For what it's worth, I would have given you oxygen in that case.
      Look, they're not crazy: Generally speaking any SpO2 reading above 90% means you're pretty much fine as far as that goes, however everyone's body is different and sensors have been known to be miscalibrated. So perhaps 93% is problematically low for your body, or their equipment was giving an incorrect reading. Besides that, giving a patient a desired medication can have an emotionally palliative effect, and therefore could be worth the risk (and the risk of administering O2 is usually quite low in medical patients).
      As this relates to Boost: There are two common ways of administering O2 in a healthcare setting: A non-rebreather mask and a nasal cannula. The first is generally supplied with oxygen flowing at 12-15 liters per minute (LPM) and will deliver 60% - 90% O2, with the latter generally at 3-6 LPM, delivering 32% - 44% O2. Keep in mind that the large Boost O2 can contains 6L of oxygen. If it could put out those flow rates and be hooked up to those devices, the can would last somewhere between 24 seconds and 2 minutes.
      I'm not trying to poop on your parade, but while Boost may have a calming and therefore useful placebo effect, it does not deliver what would be considered a medically therapeutic amount of oxygen. And if you do have a medical condition that requires supplemental oxygen from time to time, don't rely on a can of Boost. It may give you a false sense of security, which as far as I'm concerned is the biggest risk.
      Well, that and the few people that have reported buying Boost O2 in case of a house fire.
      And the ol' disclaimer: I'm not a doctor. The only medically related opinion I can possibly give to you is that you seek an opinion from a different doctor than the one at the urgent care.

    • @BoostOxygen
      @BoostOxygen 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Scott - please keep in mind that Boost Oxygen is NOT to be used for medical conditions. So all of your comparisons to flow and medical needs are irrelevant. Some people who lived near sea level or in valleys most of their lives are used to higher air pressure so can get sick at higher altitudes without actually going as far as climbing a tall mountain, or they may have breathing problems when the air pressure drops, or drops quickly during weather changes or storms. People who live at higher altitudes or even entire states that are a higher elevation are used to lower air pressure, so can go higher on a mountain, & suffer no breathing problems if the weather causes the air pressure to drop quickly.
    But to pack a can or 2 of these to climb a mountain & endure altitude sickness is a very bad idea. They don't hold enough to last long. If you show signs of altitude sickness, you must get down to a lower altitude ASAP. These cans may help you make it back down alive. If you need supplemental O2, to go up on a mountain or ski up there, you really shouldn't be up there.
    These may even be a life saver for someone with COPD too far from their heavy O2 machine or tanks. But at only 6-10 liters of O2 per can, it would be critical for them to get back to a regular O2 source ASAP.
    So these would be for a quick emergency once in a while, rather than for regular use, unless you're stocking up with a case of these every day or week & are rich enough to afford the waste of money.
    And they are highway robbery. I just saw the price of these jump up to $13.95 per can for 6-10 liters of O2 just before Christmas. To give you an idea, I just purchased an O2 concentrator that will deliver 90% O2 concentration at 1 liter per minute, 30% concentration at 5 liters per minute, for around $300 (with plenty of flow settings in between).
    That means at 1 LPM, it can produce what at least 6 cans of this stuff in an hour. In just a few hours the machine would have produced more O2 per the cost of the machine than cost of the cans. The machine is designed to last maintenance-free for years. So there's some pretty serious price-gouging with these cans. It doesn't cost much to produce the O2 these days, & very little to produce the metal can.
    This would be fairly acceptable at $2-$4 a can. But totally insane at $13.95 a can. Last year I saw a deal on a pack of them for about $9 per can, & was almost tempted. At $13.95 it's not even faintly considered anymore.
    They make 7, 8, 10, 30, & 42 liter oxygen bags that you can fill up from any O2 concentrator machine. They're essentially air filled pillows that you can lay on, which you fill with O2. I can easily fit two of the 7-10 liter air pillows in a backpack, or just one with lots of room for other stuff left over in a backpack.
    The 42 liter one is a bit large at 30"x17". But can easily fit in a closet, or trunk of a car for emergency O2. But in a vehicle, you can also run an O2 concentrator of an inverter & car power, or get a battery operated version, or one with a car adapter.
    All of these options are a lot cheaper per liter than paying $13.95 for 6-10 liters of oxygen from a can.

My sons (ages 11 and 14) and I climbed to the top of Mt. Elbert in Colorado (14,440 ft). My 11-year-old used Boost several times on the climb up and my 14-year-old needed it after we returned to the trailhead. It made a huge difference for both of them. I think many people use this at low altitudes, expecting some kind of buzz. These people have probably never experienced high-altitude oxygen deprivation.

    Most of the points you tried to make were absolutely stupid and irrelevant, as someone who has used these cans in high altitude hiking can tell you it works. Based upon what you've just said Hyberbaric chambers are pointless for a healthy person. Anyone with even a minuscule amount of study can tell you high pressure chamber is beneficial.

    • @ScottDotDot
      @ScottDotDot  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Tyler Padgett Hyperbaric chambers utilize well more than 6L of O2. Pre-hospital and hospital O2 flow rates are commonly between 4L and 12L per minute. That's a large boost can every 20 to 90 seconds. Please do your own research on the quantity of O2 required for a physiological effect, then check out the placebo effect in more detail.

    • @famousmidnight
      @famousmidnight 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      S.co.tt I apologize my first comment may not have been as clear as it needed to be. But the amount of Oxygen you can get in a bottle wasn't really what I was commenting on. The level of oxygen really isn't even required to be raised, but excess pressure is the key. Thus, no longer limiting oxygen absorption to the red blood cells. Oxygen in excess pressure can be absorbed directly into the plasma, a simple Google search could have told you this. You said, if there is a 100% saturation of oxygen to red blood cells that the body in no way can absorb more oxygen. Does this have anything to do with oxygen in a bottle? No, not really... But 6L of O2 has nothing to do with a hyperbaric chamber either.

    • @ScottDotDot
      @ScottDotDot  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just remember that you started off by calling me stupid, which is why I'm taking an annoyed tone. I never mentioned hyperbaric therapy in my video at all, but you seem to be hinging your entire argument on that. "Based upon what you've just said Hyberbaric chambers are pointless for a healthy person". Yes, I would agree that's true. Extra oxygen (either via an increase in concentration due to increased pressure or due to administration of additional O2) is not going to help a healthy person, whether it be bound to hemoglobin, dissolved in plasma, or put inside their pocket for the doctor's amusement. And fine, increased pressure will increase O2 in plasma, and in any porous material or liquid nearby. But as you yourself just said, this is all an absolutely irrelevant tangent, as I was never discussing hyperbaric chambers. The point of this video was to highlight that Boost O2 is useless to a healthy person, ridiculously overpriced, and delivered in such small quantities as to not provide benefit to sick persons. Because Boost O2 is sold by comparing it to the methods of delivering O2 to athletes on the sidelines and people suffering from altitude sickness, I stand by every point in my video. I'm sure there are other sensible and not so sensible ways to stuff more O2 into a person. So yes, I'm completely wrong and stupid for not mentioning any of those, despite them being outside the scope of this video.
      And you're just trolling with "the level of oxygen really isn't even required to be raised". But true, it's not literally required, but in medical use hyperbaric therapy combines 100% O2 with increased pressure. Which is why I brought up the 6L comparison. If you want to compare Boost to other O2 therapies at least compare apples to apples. Boost O2 is still going to do next to nothing if someone sucked on it in a hyperbaric chamber. Because again, 6L is nothing compared to the quantity of O2 administered in any comparable medical setting. That's the main point I'm trying to make.

    • @arthurserino2254

    Long story short, just bring an illegally bought O2 tank on your next hike.

    Due to commercials and economics, we've become a nation of over consumers. We take too many pills and now someone wants us to be obsessed with the mere air we breathe. I'd like to see fewer products, not more. No air product is better than our million year old design (actually 300 million since we inherited the 'design') to recover our Ox levels after a workout or other exertion...it's called breathing.

      "I'd like to see fewer products, not more." you aren't forced to buy anything or is it the seeing that bothers you?

    I use Boost Oxygen on my hunting trips to Colorado all the time and coming from Ohio I assure you that this product works as we are around 12,000 to 14,000 feet on our hikes.
