I have a question regarding the type of sequin that covers the the full fabric as in your example (fish-scale type). We have a few full sequin pants and tops/jackets and apparently they weren't packed carefully and have several areas where the sequins are raised and do lay smoothly like all the rest and it makes the top or pants look damaged in those areas. Are there ways to fix those areas and make them lie back down smoothly like the rest? Thank you for your time and very nice video.

There are two main types of sequin fabric, and Ashley shares both types with you. The types of sequin fabric are determined by how the sequins are attached to the base fabric-either using glue or sewn in place. Ashley also shows some of the different ways that sequins can be sewn onto fabric-either tightly or loosely spaced all over the fabric, or sewn in just some areas so they form a design. Ashley then gives tips on cutting out sequin fabric including using a dedicated pair of scissors, since plastic sequins can dull fabric scissors quickly. Clever video! Thanks. I find that when I use the glued on sequence fabric the glue sticks to the needle of my machine and snaps the thread. Any suggestions?

I tried to sew the type 1 sequin fabric I had a problem with the glue sticking to the needle and thread on my seeing machine. Do you have any ideas about how to stop this

Please could you give me a tip on how I can prevent my inner arms from being scratched and irritated by the sequins under the arm hole. I have bought a gorgeous hold sequined gown for my son's wedding but I know I'll be in agony with the sequins poking into my skin.
I'm trying to sew type A fabric to a knit fabric as a ruffle and it's skipping stitches really badly. I'm using a universal needle, what can I do to fix this?

This is helpful. Question though - is it ok to sew over sequins, providing one uses a heavy needle? Or is the point of removing/cutting the sequins not only so they’re not touching your skin, but also to not see over them? I’m making a decorative throw pillow.
Hi Lisa. This depends on the sequin. If you are working with a sew on sequin, which is generally much stiffer, you most definitely need to remove them and not sew over them. However, if you are working with the type of sequin that is glued in place- yes, you can sew over these. In addition to having a heavier needle I would also recommend ensure that you have a very sharp, new needle as well. Thanks!
Thank you. This video is exactly what I needed. I watched so many others but yours was the only one that was for my specific problem. Yay!
THANK YOU for these great tips! I have the "type 2 " sequin fabric and now I will be able to use it properly!
Thank-you very much for making this video available, it answered my questions!
Such a helpful video, I wish I would've found it prior to starting my glued on sequin project. But it was still so helpful for next time :)
Very well explained, thank you

Should I stick clear packing tape over the sequins on the sides of my dress. I hope it will stay in place.
Hello Cathy, That does sound uncomfortable. Is it possible to remove the sequins from that area? Thank you.
